3 Spoke Wood/leather Wheels

Recommended Posts

Why does this happen to the steering wheels of: 01-05 GS430, 01-03 RX300, 01+ SC430, and 02-04 ES??

About an inch or 2 under the top piece of wood, in the leather part (each side), you can see either a buldge, or relief (different for each diff. wheel)...just look at the leather pieces on the side of this steering wheel....

My aunt has an 01 rx300 and it's so horrible. This only appears after a few years or so during age..

anyone know what causes this?? Do any of you have this similar defect?

I know i have a lot of time on my hands today i took the day off...LOL

The only conclusion i can come to is that the wood moves after the years, either shrinking or expanding. That line must be where the wood piece really ends.

I've seen some wheels where it bulges out, and others where it's "in". some come out too much in the front, and others in the back. It's quite strange.

I really inspected mine today and I'm thinking it might be that the leather is folded back in that area...

On some of the wheels, this area is pushed "in" instead of bulging out. If the leather was folded back, wouldnt that small area be pushed out always?

you can feel that the few inches under the wood par in the leather, is harder than the other leather parts.

im confused are u talkin about the wood or the leather??

On each side of the wheel, in the leather sections. About an inch or two from the base of the top wood piece (but in the leather). you can see how it bulges out or in a bit.

you can see the difference in this picture. This wheel doesn't have the bulges.
