ToddLS400
I would say no water was flowing thru the block or it did very slowly (as water leaked out of the bad pump) when your pump went out. Water pumps have a release valve that lets the water flow out a little hole when the pump goes bad. I think this is so there is still some kind of flow by the pressure release? I'm not a mechanic. You were probably on the freeway so you were getting forced air cooling through the grill. Did your temp gauge go abnormally high? The needle shouldn't be any further than half way up the gauge. If you were in slow traffic or stopped in a city, your car would of heated up real fast and you would cracked your block. Good to hear that everything is good now after replacing the pump. I'm sure your car is fine. Look at your tailpipes after the car is warmed up. If you see excessive steam, that's not good.
bluethunder2008
Well , I was in a high way driving around 75 mile/h and the temp was lower than the middel. and that's true when I come inside the other city , the temperture were getting so fast high. I hate the car wthen stop in the middel of long road like 200 mile or something. Do any have any Idea what should make sure of, before I start a trip using LS400 ? ToddLS400
If you replaced the water pump then you're good to go. Maybe a full tank of gas? :snoooorrrtttt:
JPI
The water pump on I6 and V8 tend to leak sometimes. The gasket on the pump doesn't seal properly. I just replaced a water pump on a 2002 ls430 with 15k miles. Make sure check the coolant level. JPI
