Dragging Rear Wheels

Any opinions? my 92 Ls rear wheels feels like it is dragging, My friend who was in the front passenger seats, told me that this vehicle feels like it is dragging especially when making a turn. My brakes are okay, I don't think they are bining.

on the freeway, it seems to be dragging also, have to step on gas pedal a bit more to keep it at 65mph. I don't think its my imagination either. transmission fluid is a good color and does not smell burnt. vehicle has 165k miles on it. Maybe its not the rear wheel, but something is causing this vehicle to feel like it is dragging. :cries:

Then lift the rear tires off the ground, and with the engine running and trans in neutral, try spinning the tires by hand. It's a long shot, but perhaps the traction control is applying one brake or the other.

Drag equals friction equals heat. If you have a wheel that is causing drag to the extent that you describe, you should be able to feel a temperature difference when touching the wheels after taking a short drive. If the wheels all feel the same relative temperature, the drag must be coming from somewhere else. JMHO

It could be the anchor. The 92 LSs had an experimental anchor system that was intended to augment the E-brake when parking on steeper inclines. It was only supposed to deploy if it sensed the car moving while it was in 'park'. You might need to check the relay. Let me know if you need a schematic.

Or, if your car has the 16" wheels, it could be the hamster (aka traction control). Remove the rear wheels and check the backside of the wheel. You should find a hampster wheel incorporated into the car's wheel, and the hamster therein should be active and alert and especially not dead. You should change the hamsters every 165K miles or so, so you're due. See your vet about this.

Or, you could check to see if the E-brake is not fully disengaged. Do like SRK said and jack up either end of the car and give the wheels a spin. If you hear a clunking sound coming from the rear wheels, it could mean your hamster has perished.

After you drive it a while, put your hand on the rear wheels and feel if they are really hot. Compare each wheel temperature, they shouldn't be red hot. Probably a caliper hanging up, happened to me. I replaced it for under $100, easy job. I can tell you how if you want.
