92 Ls400 Won't Go Over 20 Mph

Recommended Posts

I have a 92 ls400 with 100k miles. One day I went to drive it and it wouldn't go over 20 mph. I pulled over and it was idling very rough. I turned around for home and after the 5 min. drive it smelled very hot. At idle I smell a strong fuel smell as though it is running very rich. It starts fine though. Any suggestions? :(

you need to give a little more info my first thought would be that your tranny might be about to go check your fluid level and smell it to see if is burnt i had a similiar problem in a 91 from lack of proper maintenance but it went gradually after about a month to finally it wouldnt go above 20 have you noticed a difference in power leading up to this? your fuel regulator could also be leaking these are just a few guesses and you would have to check the car and give a little more info

Cataletic converter clog is my guess, especially since you're smelling fuel. I bet if you looked under the car, those puppies were glowing red. They might be on the way out, sorry man. Those aren't cheap. I'd do a search on the topic, it's been discussed quite a few times. Just run a key word on Cataletic converter.

Question: Did your check engine light come on in the car?

also good advice nc a blockage in the exhaust would create a loss in power but if he is also smelling fuel he should check his fuel lines for a leak let us know something Sam
