Consumer Reports magazine owner surveys, on the other hand, provide reliability information on 6-8 year old cars. Toyota and the other Asian makes really pull ahead of the American cars in reliability after 6-8 years. In other words, although a Buick may match a Toyota in reliability during the first 3 years of ownership, by 6-8 years the Buick is troublesome just like all other American cars whereas alot of Asian makes like Toyota are doing great.
