Add Line Level Audio Input For Rx-330

Recommended Posts

I have been doing some research on this (the RX is apart in the garage)... I have a 2004 RX 330 with Navigation and Mark Levinson. This is what I found out:

The place to add Audio Input is from the Rear Entertainment harness. This intercepts the DVD audio going to the head unit for playing DVDs, it DOES NOT interfere with the headsets in the rearseat. From there you have R+, R-, L+, L- and ground. I DO BELIEVE THIS IS BALANCED AUDIO. I purchased a Balanced Line Transmitter (Zapco SLB-TP) to drive from Line Level input to a Balanced Output. I haven't tried it.

I also will add a switch to this located to switch between the factory DVD unit and my MP3 player. The only issue I found is that I can only select AUX on the head unit when I have a DVD present in the player. I am able to intercept the audio signal and play it in the whole car.

Does anyone have any better places to make this modification? I am open to suggestions.

Regards,

Nav

I am trying to fix the same issue. In the back of the truck I have a power outlet and a line level input. After buying a monster cable adapter for my ipod, I was shocked to find out that the line input can only be listened to from the wireless headphones that come with the factory dvd system. The AUX input mode in the head unit only works when there is a dvd in the rear player and the audio signal is always the audio from the DVD player. I find this to be absurdly poor engineering. I am now exploring whether it is possible to splice the audio output from the dvd player and put in an a/b switch that would allow me to inject the ipod signal (preferably from inside the front center console). Next steps would be to take the video output from the rear system and put in an a/b switch to the front video monitor for movies! any thoughts there?

The issue you are having in regards to not being able to get an external audio source to play on the main audio system or get an external video source to play on the front screen is my biggest dissapointment with the RX400H. I complained to the dealer and the agreed that it doesn't make sense, but they were not able to help me at all. Has anyone found a solution to this problem?

Thanks,

Mike

Hi Navster and Igracin, I like what you are doing. I have a 06 GX 470 and it occurs to me that an elegant, but maybe not simple, solution is to get the video mode to override the dvd mode when input jacks are plugged into the auxilary jacks in the rear entertainment console. Then you would have the video mode(or mp3 sound mode) playing thru the car speakers. Any idea if this would be easy to do? thx, Rob
