Es 250 Hood Prop Rod

I have a 1991 ES250 that I have restored to like new condition.I like everything about the car except the hood prop rod.I want to convert to pistons like the trunk.Has anyone ever done this before?Can I use the same hinges and pistons from another model?Swap hinges and pistons?I work in a body shop that repairs high end European and Japanese cars so I have access to all the latest equiptment.Can anyone help me? I fyou cna weld and drill then you can replace the rod with 2 struts but it won;t be the easiest jo finding a mount.
