Transmission Trouble On Es300

hey all

my father has a 1992 Lexus ES300, on monday of this week ,transmission has not been working properly. problems start as soon as the car warms up, problem being, drive/reverse are not functioning, its like being in neutral, this happens even if the car is not in motion,

as soon as you start the car it will be fine but given 2 or 3 minutes of warmup, car wont budge.

i figure the tranny needs to be replaced?

he was planning on getting rid of the car anyways regardless of this problem. just now he wont be able to get what he should for it,cause he doesnt want to dump that much money into it to get it repaired
