Clyde Posted April 4, 2005 Posted April 4, 2005 Has anyone had any experience with adding an after market XM Radio to a 2004 LS430 with the Navigation System? I am looking at the "XM Commander" which appears to be small enough to mount in the ash tray, has anyone done this? Any other experiences with after market XM? What about buying the XM kit from Lexus and having a good auto stereo shop install it? (my dealer wants over $400 to install it) I've also read somewhere about a Toyota XM kit that will work, does anyone know anything about this?
GSAWDMTL Posted April 4, 2005 Posted April 4, 2005 I'd go with the Lexus dealer installed XM radio as opposed to an after market option. Even though it run you a few more bucks, I'd trust Lexus to do the work instead of an audio shop. Also, wouldn't you prefer to have XM radio work within the LS 430s radio as opposed to having an external satellite radio player in your car? I guess it depends on how much cheaper the aftermarket is compared to the dealer installed option... Good luck!
SW03ES Posted April 5, 2005 Posted April 5, 2005 Why would you want to trade the perfect integration of XM in the nav screen and the perfect digital audio for an XM Commander with crappy FM modulated sound they put in Kias? On a $65,000 car the extra $400 to get a good integration of sound to match the ML audio you already paid for is worth it. Its worth the price of the Lexus unit, and any stereo shop can install it and probably will do a better job than Lexus. Thats like buying a $1500 Stereo reciever and hooking it up to 50 watt $99 speakers because you didn't want to pay for them. You've wasted the $1500.
