littlerock
I have a 97 Es and I'm having problems with my car starting. I thought it was the battery and put in a brand new battery, but there are days when my car just won't turn over. I sit there for about a minute and try it again and only then will my car start. Has anybody had this problem before? If it's not the battery, what could it be? This forum has been very helpful in other areas with my car, I sure hope somebody can give me some suggestions. Thank you. Little Rock, AR
steviej
it could be the battery cables are not tight. it could be the negative is not grounded properly on the other end. it could be the contacts in the starter. it could be the contacts in the ignition. when you turn the key and it does not turn over: is it cranking? is it just clicking? is it making any sound at all? steviej

littlerock
I'm sorry I didn't mean to be vague. The car makes a sound like it is trying to connect but then the car dies. I really don't know how else to explain it. I had the battery checked again and the dealer said it wasn't the battery.

littlerock
When I start the car, the car spitts. (1) I turn the ignition key (2) the car starts but you can tell that the car is about to shut off (3) then the car makes a cranking noises (spurtering noise) (4) then the car dies. (5) I wait 10 second and try to turn the ignition again (6) car starts I usually make sure that the radio and heat/air is off when I start the car. could it be in need of a tune-up, a different battery, engine problems? Thank you all so much for helping me.

vcv10guy
Just in case you don't know what SK means, IACV means Idle air control valve. If you open up a search using those letters "IACV" or type out the whole name, you'll get a whole bunch of topics that talk about how to locate and clean it. Hopefully that's the only problem.
