  1. I'm 36 and bought my ES300 on my 30th birthday, 6 years ago. :) I was going to buy a Volvo but 2 of my close friends had Lexus vehicles and they loved the car, so I bought one too. Now, both friends drive a Mercedes (for the status) and they are both trying to get back into the Lexus Family. 172K miles!!
  2. THEY MOVED MY TOPIC AND IT'S NEVER GOING TO GET ANSWERED IN "AUDIO". THE PROBLEM IS NOT THE AUDIO BUT THE ILLUMINATION. The illumination on my 97 ES has gone out on the right side of my radio. The Lexus dealership told me that I needed to replace the entire radio for $675 AND that a "new" radio would only be a refurbished radio. Well, this is the same thing they told me when my LCD radio panel light went out and they were wrong- this site helped me then. Is there a better, cheaper way to correct the illumination problem?

  5. I have a 97 Es and have encountered the same problem. But I'm sorry to say that I have yet to find someone to fix it. The Toyota and Lexus dealership told me that it was the sunroof drainage but they couldn't confirm it without taking apart my car for a ridiculous amount of money. As time has passed the water isn't as deep anymore and I just keep the carpet dry.
  6. When I start the car, the car spitts. (1) I turn the ignition key (2) the car starts but you can tell that the car is about to shut off (3) then the car makes a cranking noises (spurtering noise) (4) then the car dies. (5) I wait 10 second and try to turn the ignition again (6) car starts I usually make sure that the radio and heat/air is off when I start the car. could it be in need of a tune-up, a different battery, engine problems? Thank you all so much for helping me.
  7. I'm sorry I didn't mean to be vague. The car makes a sound like it is trying to connect but then the car dies. I really don't know how else to explain it. I had the battery checked again and the dealer said it wasn't the battery.
  8. I have a 97 Es and I'm having problems with my car starting. I thought it was the battery and put in a brand new battery, but there are days when my car just won't turn over. I sit there for about a minute and try it again and only then will my car start. Has anybody had this problem before? If it's not the battery, what could it be? This forum has been very helpful in other areas with my car, I sure hope somebody can give me some suggestions. Thank you. Little Rock, AR
  9. "Mr. Currious": I have all season tires on my car now-- it doesn't matter to me. I just needed help establishing what the best tires are for my car. Thank you "lexusfreak" for your opinion. I went to www.tirerack.com and they recommended the Yokohama tires too. This forum is the best!!
  10. It's really hot in the summer in Arkansas and then we have a rainy season, so I need a tire that well hold the road in the heat and the rain. Winter/snow is not a concern.
  11. I currently have Dunlap Sport (205/65r15) tires on my ES 300 but I need new tires. should I stick with the Dunlap or switch back to Michelin. At the time that I bought the Dunlap, I researched this matter with Consumer Reports but I can no long find the article. I was able to get my tires really cheap because the tire companies in Arkansas "price matched" the price in the Consumer Report magazine. I need some help. Thank you.
  12. When I use regular gas, I also go to AutoZone and buy Feul Injector cleaner. My car runs so much better and the feul injector cleaner works for 2 fill-ups. Otherwise, I use high octane gas (93). High octane gas is still under $2.00 in Arkansas (for now).
  13. My best friend just bought a MB (c-class) and she is rubbing it in my face. But listen up LEXUS owners, she doesn't have a CD player or CD changer (don't you at least get that in a Ford car), pre-set station scan, heated seats and her insurance went way up. Plus when I talked to her today, she was taking her car to the shop. And she spends a boat load on gas!! I'm not jealous anymore. Mercedes is still a Mercedes and I grew up driving one but I wouldn't trade in my LEXUS for a MB. If you want a good MB you have to get the s-class. Happy Lexus 97 Es Owner
