High Mount Stop Light

My high mount stop lights are out, bulbs are ok. All other rear brake lights, blinkers, etc are fine. Wondering if there is a separate fuse or relay just for the high mounts.

Another curious question-When I drive without the high mounts working, is that a violation? Or are the high mounts an added safety feature only-not a requirement? Just wondering....

The high mount stop lamp is required by the FMVSS. This requirement was put in place in 1986. If your high mount lamp is out, they can give you a ticket just as if one of your other lamps was out. But, I have never heard of anyone getting a ticket for this. I would imagine you would get a warning instead of a ticket.

if the bulbs are ok then you need to trace the wires back to find the break

if it was a spoiler mounted one then it probably would have broken in the arm hinge which is a common problem
