I'm new here so if any of this sound redundant I apologise.

I am getting the following codes from the ecu my car is a 95:

P0170 - fuel trim malfunction

P0330 - knock sensor 2 circuit malfunction

P0401 - egr flow insufficient

I just bought the car and I have to go through emissions so I have to clear those codes.

I think that maybe the first code maybe that I need to change the fuel filter or clean the fuel system because there is no engine misfire which leads me to believe that the injector may still be good just dirty but if I'm wrong, please correct me.

For the second code I need some help locating the particular knock sensor and to find a place that sells it the cheapest I got $200 from autozone. I used to own a nissan maxima which had a very similar engine as this one and it only had one knock sensor and it was in the oddest position. I also know that when it went bad, the engine lost a lot of power which partially explains some of my powerloss.

For the last code, I think I will clean out the egr valve and see if it will help.

If anyone has had any experience with any of these codes please help any input is appreciated and again I apologise if this is a repost thank you.

sounds like you have a leaking injector causing all your problems

hurry up and fix it before it burns out your cat as well

if an injector leaks then the ecu can;t control it so it causes it to tel you it can't make it stop

you will get a knock as it is spraying gas all the time

the egr can;t control the burning of excess unburnt gas so it also throws a code

get a technition to look at your car as #2 will lead you where to look

OK now that explains something. Lately I'm starting to get white somke at startup in the morning after sitting for about 6 - 8 hours. Do you think that this may be solved by just changing the faulty injector. I'm pretty well inclined in automotive work so I'm able to do that much or even try to diagnose it further but of course this is an engine i've never worked on.

you could start by pulling your plugs and see if any of those plugs are discolored or fouled and see what cylinder is causing the problem. I agree with sk I think all you codes lead back to one problem that is in turn giving you codes. do not start replacing parts because u get a code and that is part of the circuit (like the nock sensor).

P0401 "egr insufficient flow" can indicate many things, including:

1-vacuum line plugged or leaking

2-pipe from exhaust to egr valve plugged

3-pipe to vacuum modulator valve from egr valve plugged

4-passages at egr are plugged

5-bad egr valve

6-bad EGR VACUUM MODULATOR VALVE

I tried cleaning egr modulator valve, (beside/above egr)removed and tested egr vacuum & movement, inspected and cleaned all vacuum lines openings and pipes.

All above did not work. I replaced the egr vacuum modulator valve. (25870-62020) Light went out without a reset in about 30 miles of driving. Not sure if this valve can be cleaned! Retails for $69.US

Ok so I finally get to looking at the engine and I discovered something and I dont know why I didn't notice this earlier but it turns out that my intake tube was cracked almost all the way round. So I replaced it and did a tuneup minus the spark plugs including the fuel filter. When I checked the filter it was so dirty that the fuel that came out the other side was dark brown I dont think the previous owners changed it for a long time. I went and reset the computer and after driving a couple of yards, the light came on again but this time it was only one and thats the p0330 knock sensor 2 circiut malfunction and this leads me to belive that the knock sensor is dead.

Now I need to know which knock sensor it is, the right or left one and also where to get one at a good price the cheapest I found is at autozone for $199.99. Since I'am about to change the plugs I'll go ahead and do the sensor too.

it may be because of a dirty injector (unlikely)

change the plugs first and clean the fuel system first

motorvac

agreed, that's what I would do too.

First of all, the codes for the fuel system malfunction, and the egr are gone its just the knock sensor left. I did run a fuel system cleaner and change my filter. The engine has over 151K miles on it so its not unreasonable to think that the knock sensor is dead. So does anyone know what particular sensor it is.
