Premium Gas

Hello all,

I just wanted to get clarification on the whole gas thing, I called Lexus and they said whatever it says in the owners manual is what you should use premium is what it's called for. But I know of other people that that use regular an midgrade when it calls for premium??? Is midgrade exceptable? will it do any damage
