Question:  my rear Height Control is running more and more over the past couple of years.  When I put the senor on H and let it sit in the garage for 2 days or more, the air bags hold the pressure, but when I start the car and start to drive, in a minute or so the pump starts up and it ends up in N, and only lasts a minute or more and starts up again and again.

So, could this be a height control sensor and not an air bag problem?

It sounds like you’re experiencing a common issue with the height control system on your 2005 Lexus GX470. Given that the air bags hold pressure when the car is stationary, but the pump activates frequently when driving, it is indeed possible that the height control sensor is the culprit rather than the air bags themselves.

Here are a few points to consider:

  1. Height Control Sensor: The height control sensor sends signals to the Electronic Control Unit (ECU) about the vehicle’s height. If the sensor is faulty or corroded, it can send incorrect signals, causing the pump to activate unnecessarily.

  2. Solenoid Valve: Sometimes, the issue can also be related to the exhaust height control solenoid valve. Moisture intrusion can cause these valves to malfunction, affecting the height control sensors.

  3. System Reset: Performing a reset of the air suspension system might help. This involves inspecting the height control sensor, checking for broken parts, and replacing the sensor if necessary.

Given these points, it would be a good idea to have the height control sensor inspected and possibly replaced. If you’re comfortable with DIY repairs, you might be able to handle some of these checks yourself. Otherwise, consulting a professional mechanic who has experience with Lexus air suspension systems would be advisable.
