Climate Control Lcd Backlights Are Out

My 1994 ES300 has no working LCD backlights on the Climate Control. They're soldered in and sandwiched between the LCD and the circuit board and I fear I'll mess things up if I try to work on them.

Does anyone work on those? Any other recommendations? The unit otherwise works fine and I'd hate to replace it for three to four hundred dollars.
