SRK Posted September 10, 2004 Posted September 10, 2004 Hi everyone - I have an LS400, and I am looking to add the collection. The Lexus that I intend to get is a GS400 (have yet to drive one though). Two of the cars I have looked at have had the transmission replaced at about the 100k mile mark. Are the transmissions a problem with these models? One of the guys said the trans was $6000.00 Can installed used! That seems a bit steep to me, and a bit early for the failure in the first place. The LS trans seems to be indestructible.
BA. Posted September 10, 2004 Posted September 10, 2004 Sounds very odd to me man. I've not heard of any transmission mileage problems on the GS or the LS. Now, I DID hear about some minor problems from a guy with a supercharged GS400! :) ....but that's a different story. Those cases sound really out of the ordinary.
SRK Posted September 10, 2004 Author Posted September 10, 2004 I hope that's the case. I heard somewhere that the early GS400's with the button shift on the steering wheel prompted some drivers to "over-use" the trans, which may cause the failures. I too would think that the GS trans would be as tough as any Lexus trans. Maybe the same?
