Concealed Radar Detector?

I recently got a 2000 LS400 over eBay. When I received the car, I noticed a two part knob sticking out of the carpeted area on the side of the console near the accelerator pedal and two LEDs mounted on the dash in front of the speedometer-tach display. When you turn the ignition key a woop-woop noise is emitted and the LEDs light up. It beeps some as I drive around the area. My Lexus dealer doesn't know what it is. It resembles the functioning of a radar detector but it does not resemble any current production units that I can find. Anybody know what it might be?

What you are seeing is probably the controls and indicators for a k40 system 2000. Check www.K40.com for details. I have this system in my 93 SC 400, 95 Acura Integra and 91 Acura NSX. The abosolute best radar detector I've ever used. I've been saved from going to jail for sure by using this system. If you like to drive fast then it is an absolute must to have installed on your machine.

How much does these things run?

I just got my detector (which cost me over 350 bucks) taken away from me in Canada. Went to court and got lucky -- paid no fines. I guess they felt sorry for me.

Anyway, I am in the market now for a new detector -- and yes, I have read the very informative thread on this subject, already.:-D

I use an Escort. Not a bad detector but after using one for over 20 years, I WISH I had a Valentine One the best readr detector, undisputed. They cost 395US and the hidden kit (which is very usful in Virginia) is even more. Still, who wants to get caught? One ticket and it pays for itself.
