My next project is to work on replacing front rotors and serpentine belt. I have learned after buying this car ('93 LS400) that "Work On Your Own" to fix the car. I'm in the learning process on "how to do stuff" on my car.

I ordered online the front brake rotors by BREMBO. It cost me $150 for pair. Midas estimated $400 for pair.

1) Do I need any special tool to compress the caliper piston to put the pads back on?? Any suggestions to be taken care of?

2) How do I change Serpentine belt? I do not see any room to work on.

Use a C-clamp to compress the piston into the caliper. Put one of the old brake pads against the cylinder and slowly compress until the piston is fully retracted. It must be fully retracted or it won't fit when you try to put it back on.

A couple of suggestions. Before compressing the piston, clean the rubber boot so it doesn't hang up later. You only need to remove the top bolt of the inner caliper assembly which then rotates out. If you want to, send me your email and I'll send you a PDF file with pictures and descriptions of what to do to remove the caliper from when I did mine.

Sorry I can't help you with the serpentine belt.

those are great instructions about the brakes from Denny ;)

about the serp. belt it is a tight fit, if you don't want to take other components off (which you don't need too).......there is a belt diagram on the top of the hood by the latch that tells you which way the belt goes on the pullies

Be sure to extract old brake fluid out of the master cylinder....if you compress those pistons the fluid will spill out and over in your engine compartment.

get a couple of cans of DOT 3 brake fluid and flush/bleed out the lines with new brake fluid while your at it!!
