lexxus Posted July 24, 2004 Posted July 24, 2004 My girlfriend's 300 is CRAZY fast. The car flies. It makes this WAAAA kind of a roar(like the new Z's/G 35's) and it's like a rocket. My 400 runs okay, but not like that. Downside. Her car gets HORRIBLE gas mileage. I drove all week in my 400 for $20. She drove two days for $20. Weird. I'm wondering what the guy could have done to her car? Does the car have an airflow meter like the old Z's? I remember my mechanic cranked the meter up on my old Z, and it was the same deal; very fast but it sucked up the fuel. She's not too happy about this. She's a student and waits tables for small money, so the gas is a big issue.
RonW Posted July 24, 2004 Posted July 24, 2004 Well I have 2 sc300's. one is a 2000 and one a 1993. The '93 is much quicker then the 2000. Can't figure out why. Seems to mostly be a more agressive trany that is accounting for the difference. As far as mileageb I get about 20 avg on the 1993 (the quicker one). I am still trying to figure out if the trany shifting is adjustable or programable.
jzz30 Posted July 24, 2004 Posted July 24, 2004 your girls car doesnt happen to have a turbo in it does it? that would make the gas go away and the car fly and if she is complaining why dont you two trade? you seem to like the speed ;)
lexxus Posted July 24, 2004 Author Posted July 24, 2004 No, no turbo. I can't really trade her because I have 10K in mine, and we have 8K in hers. I had to do the timing belt and water pump right after I got it. Although the 93/300 is worth about the same as the 92/400. It's a thought.
jzz30 Posted July 25, 2004 Posted July 25, 2004 usually the 400 is noticably faster than the 300. this is a mystery is there an elephant in the trunk of your 400? then again gas milage depends on how you drive. on my 400 i can get about 270 miles of mostly city driving on a full tank what about your cars?
RonW Posted July 25, 2004 Posted July 25, 2004 I have owned both sc300 & sc400 and tho it is true if you compare 1/4 mile times (full out excelleration in other words) the 400 is quicker. However I have found that in around town driving under normal excelleration my 300 "FEELS" quicker.
llama Posted July 28, 2004 Posted July 28, 2004 I think that there is a way to short or hotwire the ECU. Try looking at the diagnostics port under the hood (located on the drivers side) and see if it has any suspect wires.
jzz30 Posted July 28, 2004 Posted July 28, 2004 i have driven the 300 around and i felt that it was very shifty like it would stay in gear longer and down earlier than the 400.
soarer479 Posted July 28, 2004 Posted July 28, 2004 It makes this WAAAA kind of a roar maybe the 300 is super charged ?? :D
54406 Posted July 28, 2004 Posted July 28, 2004 In my '98 400 if I drive the transmission in 4th (as opposed to D) and the ect in "Power" it really drinks the gas. I couldn't believe the difference.
llama Posted July 31, 2004 Posted July 31, 2004 There is a mode on the soarer's that I have heard about called "trackday". I do not know if it is a push button system or a coined term but it has to do with shorting out the ECU.
lexxus Posted July 31, 2004 Author Posted July 31, 2004 We just figured the gas mileage; it gets 14 miles per gallon. I knew it was bad. But it sure runs good! No, the ect/power switch is not on, and the OD is on. She's not thrilled. Her Ford Escort got twice that, I'm sure. Oh well.
jzz30 Posted July 31, 2004 Posted July 31, 2004 maybe the mass air flow isnt plugged in because that will cause major running richness.
