  1. I have learned so much from this forum I am going to ask a simple question (simple from those that have these items, again too many choices for the one trying to purchase). I am looking for inexpensive, yet quality jack stands and advice on a floor jack. I am looking to get what I need to do routine maintenance but also be prepared for things down the road. I did all of the repairs I was able to do in my garage on an 89 Toyota Camry LE but was able to access everything from the top, or being very creative with my front curb :o to gain more clearance underneath. Don't want to do that with the GS400. Any input is greatly appreciated.
  2. I have digested the threads in this section and it appearsd that my earlier question on satellite radio was worthless. It appears that there is no DIY solution that appeals to the posters that I have read and even if an option is viable, it involves an odd placement (the inside door rest), or major surgery . Is this the case or is there an affordable solution that will not leave surgical scars and an unbecoming profile? Thanks to those willing to address this.
  3. Thanks SK. BTW, I contacted McGard today and they told me that the cone on their OEM aftermarket lugs was slightly smaller than the rim seat. They stated that the Lexus locking lugs were specifically made for the OEM rims. They stated that their locking lug nut would be OK if only one was used and only if I had a 5 bolt wheel. They too were steering me to factory parts, though said their aftermarket parts would be "O.K." Basically, they confirmed what you already stated. Is ther no end to your vast depth of knowledge? :) Slate
  4. Go Sox: I am originally from Haverhill MA, moving to MO in 1995 for employment. I was the sole representative of the Sox and Pats in Missouri (Thick KC/Rams, Cardinals fans) but I have swung the wife and kiddos. Thanks for the idea re: the lugs and the rust preventative. Here's another question. Followed a thread on all season tires, and the consensus appears to be on good and bad season tires (2 sets). This involves buying new rims for the winter tires, I presume, but noone spoke about the rims/wheels. What do members do here?? Thanks.
  5. CApe Girardeau, MO is adjacent to the mississippi river. The only other place that had this humidity (yeaterday was 100%) was Parris Island, SC when I went through Boot. Thank you for the explanation and enjoy the low humidity.
  6. SW03ES: I am officially off the fence. I will wait and see. Keeping the original factory seal is a convincing point. Thanks so much.
  7. can you expand on that. I am unsure of what you mean by a nut base. Is that the portion of the lug nut closest to the rim? It is not rusting there. It is in the machined female shape on the face of the lug nut that shows the rust. It wipes out with a q-tip. Are you noting that aftermarket locking lugs are unsafe or that they do not rust at the base. Sorry for my ignorance but please get me squared away and thank you.
  8. Hey: I have a 1998 GS 400. It's sweet but the factory system with the generation 1 CD changer pull-out cartrige is getting old. I would like to add satellite radio (and look at a system that wiull go into the dash and have sweet visual appeal. Can such a system be put in without !Removed! up my electronics? Any experience? If not, can a satellite radio system be added and interfaced with the current system so that I do not have that casette and cord on my dash? As if I am asking for too much, I also want to keep the price reasonable and the system fidelity very good. Any takers on a response.
  9. Thanks for the observations. I am sitting on the fence now where I thought I was about to climb down. Hopefully there will be a post that will set me in a definitive direction. Thanks for all of your advice/thoughts.
  10. I have a set of Chrome rims with the gold lexus logo at the center and purchased a set of aftermarket locking lug nuts to deter theft. The key cutout has already begun to rust. <_< Any thoughts on whether the Lexus OEM locking lug nuts are better and if they have the same tendency to rust, how does one prevent this? Any thoughts will be greatly appreciated.
  11. Thanks acf. I've never used a window repair service and wondered if the patch is worth the price (even if covered by insurance). Gerry
  12. It's the front windshield. I cannot see a crack, only an imprint about 2 mm diameter and 1 mm deep. I don't need to fill it with something or have one of those window repair gypsies come calling?? :D Thanks.
  13. Just succumbed to a thrown missile :o from car in front and it collided with my front driver's side window 4 inches up from base (directly in line with my head). It is approx. 2 mm in diameter and no cracking noted. What do I do so that this doesn't progress. Never cared on my Totota Camry LE but this beast is different. Any thoughts will be greatly appreciated. Slate
  14. I would like thoughts on the P&G Mr. Clean Auto Dry Car Wash System. I have not used it on my just purchased 98 Lexus GS 400 but have used it on my black 2000 Toyota Sienna XLE with remarkable results. For those not familiar with it, as I understand it the system has a filter that de-ionizes water after the final rinse (by way of a selector switch) that allows the water to run off without spotting. It had a great review in the WSJ so I tried it and it worked as promised. I have been in awe of the level of technkical expertise on this forum and would appreciate any thoughts. Thanks
