Thanks for the inputs Bandit, BlackSC4.. gives me hope.. :) Car is still at the dearlars.. my wife's telling me that Brenda, the Service lady wants our car, thats why she's suggesting us to sell :) Another point/question... if the problem went away after changing the PSpump the second time.. (it came back again tho), isn't it the PSpump?? Should I tell them to change the PSpump again.. should be covered under waranty (they changed it, so should be covered) What else should I tell them to check for? Specifi terms? I dont know much about cars :( Thanks again.

hello, I am in a bit of trouble with my 93 SC400 with 130 k miles. about 4/5 months ago the PS pump had to be replaced, by dealer, cause it was giving loud nouse. And it was probably leaking too. 15 days ago power steering was giving problems again.. it was stiff, and noise came back. Dealer changed the PS pump for free. 7 days ago the same situation. This time the dealar changed a hose ( i forgot the name, a 20/30 bucks hose) for free, PS pump is not leaking anymore they said. they are calling to tell me that the problem is still there, and suggesting me to get rid of the car.. Cause they think it will keep giving me troubles.. and it sounds like they are not sure whats causing the problem.. they are saying the Power Steering Rack needs to be changed.. for around 1000 bucks (estimated verbal quote). Does that sound like a good diagnosis to you? My wife wants to keep the car.. she likes it. but We are both students.. .. u know the financial issue. If we look at getting another one... neither me or her really like the ES.. the lady we deal with Brenda, at the Hoffman Lexus in Hartford, CT.. suggested a RX300.. I am looking for your suggestions on the mechanical issue and also what are the other good options for a Lexus? Thanks for your input. ps: we have done a near complete tune up with spark plugs wires, a few flush and fills, PS pump.. new tires.. so u know, what to suggest about if we should keep the car.... And the car is steal at the dealar, and they wanna know our decision.. so if you read it, please write something :) thanks again

Hi, lost my brake on local road (thankfully just around the corner of my house). the brake pedal doesn't press down. its hard. anyone else had any problems like this? what could go wrong? thanks in advance.

thanks much for the links and info 'zigzag'. again, the way everyone talks about the ecu giving this and that codes, i am assuming some of you have a computer of your own so that you can check codes yourselves?? or is there any inexpensive place where i can take the car for a computer check up? where did you get the replacement bulbs from? from dealer? i found a post about lighting from www.lextech.org . any suggestion? i also heard the same lex parts are much cheaper if you get it from toyota? thanks again...

hello gentlemen, coming back from toyota dealer. here is my previous post about the issues i am having with my sc400 http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...hl=engine+light the mechanic suggested to start with opening up the guage cluster (is that what that's called?) and check if the bulb is burnt, or someone might even took it out before selling the car.... they want at least 1 1/2 hour of time to do that.. then they'll be able to hook the computer and get the codes. they tried already and couldnt get any codes cause the engine lights doesnt come on. can i do it myself? anyone owns a computer thing to hook it up with? how much, where to get it? thanks in advance.

same situation with my 93sc4. the light comes on and goes off as it pleases. all the lights are fine tho... any suggestions anyone? thanks in advance..

never mind, got that opened up. now new question is cant get the blue gear out, to put one washer behind it. do i have to take the other nut out too? i guess you wouldnt know unless you've worked on it. would try to post a pic tomorrow.. thanks anyways.

hi, i guess to most of you its a piece of cake, or easier than that.. but i couldnt take the steering shroud off. i was gonna see if i could fix the tilt/telescopic steering issue. took 3 screws off, now the plastic thing is not coming off. and didn't wanna use force not knowing where to direct it. someone pls help? thanks s.r.

i hardly have any mechanical skills, just know how to do oil changes :) but want to fix it. any idea what could be wrong with the computer system, why's it not responding? according to the dealar thats what needs to be addressed first. from there they can find out the reason for stalling. already spent a lot for timing belt, ps pump. looking for alternative ways than dealars :D

along the same line, if its yellow of foggy outside, use cleaner. i used toothpaste (suggested by someone from the forum), and it worked great. dealer told me to replace whole light setting for 900 bucks..!!

hi, i am new to this, and a new lexus owner. know little about cars. my 93 SC400 very recently started coughing while idling... well i think it coughs a little when its running also, but hard to distinguish whether those little shakes are from the road or the car is not gettin gas. its a little shake, nothing too hard. a couple of times it stalled (engine shuts off) while idling. this started the day i got the timing belt and water pump replaced from dealar. 1. dealer checked it and said they couldn't hook up the computer because the onboard computer is not responding. i know of an accident on the car from lemon check, but no visible signs (dealar said could be left front hit). dealar couldnt figure out the problem with the little coughing problem but suggested it could be ellectrical. but couldnt say for sure cause they couldnt hook the computer up. 2. dealar also said check engine light dont come on when they hook up when they hook up computer. suggesting some where the line is broke. suggesting hours of labour to figure out what's the deal with the computer system. 3. mechanic suggesting selling the car. saying car might stall totally in 2 months, or it could even run 10 years. 4. telescoping steering doesnt work. it comes back and forth. but not up and down. 5. power mirrors dont work. very confused here. very interested in learning about cars. recently thinking about taking a quick mechanic course somewhre to learn a few things.. i have enough time in my hand and totally doing nothing this summer. do u think i can fix these myself? any suggestions anyone? thanks and i appreciate your help s.r.
