  1. In the April 2009 issue of Consume Reports the LS 460 was rated Best Overall Vehicle for 2009. Out of possible 100 points the LS earned 99. points. rgrds phil j
  2. Hi, any suggestions as to what sot of tire pressure I should keep in my 460 L AWD with 18 inch rims? Does tire pressure impact ride and/or handling? Does tire pressure impact tire life? Thanks phil
  3. you may have done this but just in case.... when i uploaded my address book from my BB 8830 i had to ask the car to take the information and I had to tell the phone to release it. Again you may have done this but just in case.
  4. Steve is right that you can install the prestigious society override and that will allow you use of the nav, the phone, and ML sound system when you are driving. If you do it, you will be glad you did.
  5. I went to f different Lexus dealers. the top quote was 5600 and the lowest was 3400. only one of the guys bothered to call me back when I called. I will report what happens.
  6. My 2009 LS 460 with 3000 miles was sideswiped at the airport parking garage. It does not seem serious but looks bad. I wonder if any other members have any advise for me about repairing the doors and matching the paint. The paint color is a sort of white pearl. While Lexus of Manhattan has a in house body shop I wonder if it will be possible to match the paint. I wonder if it is possible to buy door panels from Lexus that have been painted by the factory? Will a body shop return it good as new? Am I worrying about nothing? If any of you can give me advise I would be very grateful. thanks phil
  7. i drive a 2009 460 with the Mark Levinson radio. i have not noticed any difference between XM, FM or the music i copy on to my hard drive.
  8. Steve sorry I did not see your posting sooner. It was just under $300. plus 2 hours of my time. now that I have used it a few times I love it even more. It also works with the CD player and the music on the hard drive.
  9. Did you drive a 600hL before the gas awd? You've peaked my interest in the awd, it seems to be similar to the Audi Quattros. I've had three of them before converting to the Lexus side. I drove both. to me they drive alike. both are better than the rwd in my opinion.
  10. i went with the gas car because it gets better mpg on the hwy and because the trunk is bigger. i picked up a new 09 with awd for 83k. 2009 is the first year for awd and in my opinion the awd drives better than the rwd car. The awd car comes standard with a better suspension and better steering. the 460 l is a longer car but it has more room. study the brochure and the manual because both have slightly different informaation you will love the car
  11. Dear LS460 on 4/10/07 you wrote: I'd like to start a discussion regarding the Lexus LS460 Navigation lock-out and what we, as a group, can do to persuade Lexus that we, the folks who both purchase and use these cars, should be the ones to determine when we use our navigation system.... I started a new thread focusing on Prestigious Society and their override kit to allow a driver to operate the navigation system and telephone while driving. I refer you to the thread below: http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...showtopic=53767 Thanks Phil J.
  12. Some users on this forum and other forums are disappointed that the Lexus navigation system and Bluetooth phone system cannot be operated while the car is in motion. I was one of those users. Having previously been a Mercedes driver I missed the convenience of being able to dial the phone or operates a navigation system while driving. While the voice commands for navigation are satisfactory 70% of the time I found using voice commands to input a phone number was only accurate 30% of the time (I spent three hours testing both and kept records of 250 attempts) After researching here and on another Lexus forum I learned of Prestigious Society and their kit to override a navigation lockout. I was afraid to dismantle the dashboard to install this kit even though all of the forum postings seem to indicate that the process was not that complicated. I emailed Mark at prestigious Society (mark@prestigioussociety.com) and I also spoke to him on the phone. He replied to my emails promptly as well as my phone call. My Lexus sales representative told me that installing a kit might void the warranty but in the end I made the decision that installing the kit and the convenience of being able to use the override was worth the hassle that I would have to go through dismantling the dashboard. Mark assured me that he would send detailed instructions which he did. The instructions were approximately 20 pages long and had color photographs and step-by-step procedures. The dashboard is primarily held together by clips and things just pull apart. You have to put tape over some of the delicate pieces so that you don't scratch them. Also you must have confidence to just pull on something so that you can remove it. The console comes apart easily but the sound system and a navigation system you must pull firmly to get it out. Also there are a couple screws in the navigation system that are hard to get to. I hired someone that I thought was a little more mechanically inclined to help me in that fellow did most of the work but I could have done it. It took us about two hours from start to finish and neither one of us were auto mechanics. I'm so glad I bought this kit. Now I can use the override switch whenever I want and really it makes using the navigation system and most importantly for me the telephone much easier. The interior of my car is light colored so I installed the override switch in the ashtray. I don't smoke so I don't need the lighter. I drilled a hole in the side of the ashtray and ran the override cable through that hole. Now whenever I want to press the override I just open the ashtray door. If there's anyone out there who is disappointed that they cannot use the navigation system or dial the telephone or use their phone book while the car is driving override kit is the answer. I encourage anyone that has purchased this override kit in the past or is it may do so in the future to share your experiences here so that others that come later will have the confidence to buy this product. Thanks to the people who maintain this forum for allowing us to help each other this way. rgrds Phil J.
  13. I would be willing to pay $500 and sign a General Release if Lexus would enable my phone and Nav system while driving. If there is a after market option I would buy it. If you build a user group to approach Lexus I will join it and support it financially. I notice that over 17,000 people have looked at this posting. I think that is more than any other 460 posting here. Today I picked up my new 460. I love the car. The young lady who taught me how to use the car told me that 90% of the new buyers she teaches are unhappy with the lockout. My last 6 cars were Mercedes but each new model spent more time in the shop than the last. Several friends own Lexus and said that they are trouble free so I bought one. I think the Me/Bz nav and phone system is better but if my Lexus spends less time in the shop I will be happy. However if the Lexus Phone and Nav system worked like the Me/Bz I think it would be a better and safer car. Safer because the Me/Bz phone keypad is safer than using my cell phone to dial. rgrds philj
  14. on Thursday I purchased an LS 460L all-wheel-drive. I take possession next week. Does anyone know if I can replace the 18 inch nine spoke wheels that come standard with the car, with the 5 spoke 19 inch wheels that I have seen on some cars? Will they fit? If they will fit can I buy all season tires for the 19 inch 5 spoke wheels or only summer tires? Is it true that only the dealers can install tires on the rims? Is it worth it to pay $750 for an insurance policy on the tires and rims or should i just buy 4 tires as a backup on ebay? Thank you in advance for your help. phil
