  1. Great job ChimChim! My first time to work on a car and this was a breeze. Just can't understand of why I had been paying Lexus ~$75 for a basic oil change, when the best oil and filter and a half hour of work costed me no more than $30 bucks! Thanks for the great description & pictures, the level of details was -just- perfect!!! :D If you are doing more work on your Lexus, do keep all of us newbies in mind; looking to read more from you. :)

With my recent experience, my next DIY project is changing brake pads and rotors, any advice folks?

    Cheers'

There is a guide on edmunds.com

I've never done this(brake job), but I want to try.

  2. So my service is coming up soon. For reason beyond my control I have not done any of the previous services except oil changes. As I live in NJ and winter is coming arouund, should I bite and go ahead and do the 30K recommended service as per the service manual?

Should I skip anything from the recommendation or should I add other services not in the service manual?

    it is an automatic

what does it include? you shouldn't have any problems without it

  3. I can't believe all you went through. Ironically Tri County and Prestige wanted to sell me a car so-o badly. In the end I went with my closeby friendly dealer who gives me terrific service and did the brake fix without question. Warnock Lexus has the most honest service and are friendly, too. Their motto--Warnock--there really is a difference. I have used their service since '98 for all my Lexuses.

LOL!! I think we actually have a thread that discusses this debate also. Is it Lexuses, Lexi, or what?

I'm guessing it should be Lexuses since Lexus is an acronym for Luxury Export United States.... It used to be only for the United States but they sell em in Europe too....so they should change the badge to Lexeu (sounds french)

  5. what kind of gas is it(octane)? and you might be experiencing the typical "lexus" hesitation. The pedal is electronically controlled so it has a slower response. Try using the VSC switch and put it into PWR.

I used 93 grade gas both times. The car has been in PWR mode. I can see a noticable difference in acceleration.

    hmm I dunno then

  6. The 1k service is a customer service stop. They want to check out your car, wash it up all nice for you, address any of your concerns, and get you acclimated to the dealership. No reason not to do it, its free. I don't let the dealer wash my car but I still did the 1k check and went over some things with them way back when.

As for synthetic oil and oil change intervals. Lexus specifically says not to increase oil change intervals when using synthetic oils. I have run Mobil 1 since the first oil change at 5k miles and I change it every 5k.

Trust me the oil change interval is a myth. You can last much longer than 5k on it. It's synthetic for crying out loud, it's made to last long. All Lexus want from you is money - considering that you come to them to change the oil.
