  1. It sounds like when they stop working and then go slow that the circuit breaker has been tripped due to an overload, which can be casued by a short circuit. When the circuit breaker cools and comes back online, they work again. Since you say that sometimes they come down all of a sudden when you really want them to go up, it may have something to do with the anti-pinch feature that will not allow an obstruction such as your fingers to become stuck in a closing window. Does this happen with any and all windows? Or is it just one particular window. Have the Lexus Technician ever experienced the problem while the car was in the shop?
  2. If you're talking about the daytime running lamp bulb. You just have to get someone with little monkey hands to get down there and twist the bulb holder counter clockwise 1/4 turn then pull out. Bulb then comes straight out. It's a little guy you can get at any parts store.
  3. Definitely get the code(s). You can use the diagnostic tool for free like they say at auto parts store. I have a service manual if you get the codes I can run you through a trouble tree. Once my 98 GS300 did that and it was the throttle position sensor. It fixed itself, but I replaced it cuz I definitely didn't want that happening again! I was told that other lights would come on with the engine light like trac ctrl and stuff which they did.
  4. According to the Lexus Repair Manual, it states to measure disc thickness. Replace the disc if the thickness of the disc is at the minimum thickness or less. Replace the disc or grind it on a lathe if it is scored or worn unevenly. Measure disc runout using a dial indicator. If the disc's runout is maximum value or greater (say this in a Mr. Miyagi voice), check the bearing play in the axial direction and check the axle hub runout. If the bearing play and axle hub runout are not abnormal, adjust the disc runout or grind it on a "On-Car" brake lathe. This is me now, not Mr. Miyagi - adjusting the disc runout is achieved by rotating the disc 1/5 turn and checking the runout again which you have to use a dial indicator and all that crap for.
  5. I was looking into strut bars (Tein). Was wondering if they are just dead weight???
  6. Wider tires will give you better handling, but you will sacrifice some slight ride quality. I put Eibach springs with Bilstein shocks and the car will corner flat with the stock 16's. I bought some 17" rims from an 07 and am going to install those as well.
  7. Neo is right. The TRD is for someone who wants to feel like they are driving a pseudo race car on the track. Daizen's are the way to go for luxury ride with better handling.
  8. I had a 98 and now have an 01. They are pretty much the same. I bought 01 tail lights and rims to make it look like an 01. The one big thing I miss is the headers on my 98. In 01 they switched to a regular manifold. The 01 has bigger exhaust tips that look nice and some more safety features.
  9. That's a good combination. 17's or 18's will not cause any issues. You might run into fitment problems if you lower the car and start putting on 19's and such.
  10. With so many miles, if it happens all the time not just braking, it would be a good idea to check the ball joints. I have heard that when they go bad they make loud noises and this is an issue on these. These ball joints don't have grease fittings so they depend on rubber inside to hold the ball in the joint. If these are bad, your wheel could fall off.
  11. Typically, those 3M wood dash kits require you to use a solvent to adhere the wood onto the dash components. This in effect destroys the dash underneath but makes sure the wood sticks forever. You would have to buy new dash stuff. Best bet is EBAY or Billy's Used Lexus and Toyota Parts. Or maybe someone here wants the wood and would trade with you!
  12. A good source for cheap used Lexus Parts is Billy's Used Toyota and Lexus Parts http://www.billystoyotaparts.com/ You can search, but they always end up saying please call. I got a door computer (multiplex module) there for $75 whereas Lexus wants around $300 !!! :o
  13. Could be an air leak. You won't notice as much at high rpm because it's dumping more fuel into the TB to compensate. Try sparying carb cleaner around vacuum hoses, throttle body, intake, etc. Go to advance auto parts or similar and they'll let you borrow a code reader usually for free. See if you can get any codes out of it like O2 sensors reading lean or rich stuff like that.
  14. I got the HD because I was worried that sport would be too aggressive and make the ride very harsh. I figure I'm not street racing or on the track. Just wanted to stay flat on the corners without the body roll. It is truly amazing how the car flattened out after this. I was looking into the sway bars either TRD or Daizen, but they are costly and this may be good enough for now at least. :D
  15. I installed Bilstein shocks on my GS300 because I believe they are the best you can get. They are tested on the Nürburgring and they work great on this car! I installed them with Eibach Springs. There is a world of difference now in the handling, and the gap between the tires and wheel well looks nicer as well. Ride quality is still excellent, but a little firmer over bumps.
