  1. I've had the same problem. Ron I experienced the same problem with my VIN number last weekend. I tried it several times and double checked the number but no luck. I just assumed they were too new for the system. Let me know if you hear more from customer care. ←
  2. One of the primary engineering concerns that Toyota faced with this car was to insure the traction battery lasts at least 100,000 miles. They only use the midlle 1/3 or mayber 40% of battery capacity to not stress the battery. I for one want my battery to last well past 100,000 miles and will not be doing anything to shorten its life. Ron
  3. Do let us know what the mechanics say. My gas engine seems to be on a lot also, most of the time in fact. I figure it's charging my electric battery. It only seems to shut off when I am stopped at a light or when I am at very low parking lot speeds. ← I put another 100 miles on car today. Up to 800 now. About 1/2 expressway at 65 to 70 and other 2 lanes at 35 to 60. Car got 24.7mpg in blowing snow. It was about 36 degrees here today blowing snow and windy. I as others cannot get the car to stay shutdown in manual mode but in cruise at 35-45 mph on rolling hills it spends a lot of time shut down. I believe that the way computers are set up it is not likely that you can get much in the way of engine shutdown without using cruise control. I have even tried driving with the +/- part of the cruise and can get a lot of engine shutdown time. It's obvious that this car is best at city driving and "slow" less than 70 mph on the expressway in order for the technology to get the best effect from engine shutdown. Ron
  4. I have noticed that with cruise control and gentle hills the engine will shut down on gentle downhills up to about 65mph. Above that it will not shut down. I believe that the computer is programed so that you are more likely to get engine shutdown on cruise control than manual control Ron
  5. Forgot to add my indicated battery charge is virtually unchanged at about 80%. Only way I got it to change was long bout of trying nav system stopped in driveway caused it to discharge to about 60%. Ron ←
  6. Just took my Rx400h on a second day 600 mile trip. 22 mpg on express way at 65 to 80 probably average of low 70's, with little steady spead to facilitate breakin. I returned towing a 1000 lb boat at 65 to 70 average with boat got 16 mpg. Once I got off the interstate the indicated mileage would jump dramaticly. Mileages double checked by fillups. The cars incicated milage was very close to actual. My odometer is actually 2.5% long IE 10 miles indicated is 10.25 miles. Speedometer is 2 mph high at 65 IE 65 indicted is actually 63. Ron
  7. My car is in and I am visiting the dealer this PM. Did you get a 3500# hitch. when I check last year Lexus did not offer a 3500# hitch you had to buy and aftermarket. I also will be buying a hitch. Ron
  8. I have noticed that the Canadian site list Stainless Steel Exhaust system for both the RX400h and for the Rx330. No such listing for the US site. Does anyone know if the US cars come with SS exhaust? I agree the Canadian site is better. Ron
  9. The info I have seen shows the same 10.x to 1 compression ratio of the standared v-6 for the Rx400h. All Lexus has done is detune the engine to limit outut to 208Hp. The valve timing, Atkinson cycle, doesn't do anything for you if you don't increase the base compresssion ratio. The Prius is over 13 to 1 base compression ratio. By the way the Prius engine in gasoline only mode is the most effecient gasoline engine the EPA ever tested. I suspect that Lexus had techincal problems developing this car and had to have the gasoline engine do more work than was planned, battery capacity? I'll bet anything that an Atkinson cycle will follow within a year or so, I think I'll wait. Ron
  10. Correction $48K not $4k - don't we wish :D ====== At $4,535 I get a premium over the AWD version with the Nav +DVD of $5,000. Over the rumor amount. Also I believe the reason the mileage is less than last years estimates is that they did not convert the Gasoline engine to an Atkinson cycle like the Prius. I believe the design has been compromised and I don't think I will use my "spot" to buy one. But I will wait for more info. Ron Fiedler PE Mechanical Engineer

  12. I don't yet own a Lexus. I am on the waiting list for a RX400h. If electronic copy of the RX330 manual is available could I get someone to mail me a copy?? Ron =========
  13. The risk of damaging the engine without oil is infinately greater than any gain by draining a few drops more out of the engine. Running engine without oil for even a few seconds is an extremely bad idea. Ron
