  1. The unit had to be swapped out. I suggested they make it upgradeable via putting a firmware upgrade file on the ipod. We'll see if that happens in newer units.
  2. Sorry for the dumb question but what is the best way to defrost the front window? I can turn the defroster on, but turning it off and leaving it in a quite enough mode to keep defrosting is not clear to me. The manual says something about adjusting the fan speed, vent flow, ac mode after pressing the defrost button, etc. Please help!
  3. Success! It turns out my dealer (name withheld to protect the guilty) must not have rebalanced the wheels (rotated maybe?) after the rotor repair. On a freeway trip to Palm Springs from San Francisco I got less than stellar mileage (approx 21 mpg). I went to Desert Lexus in Cathedral City, CA and after the initial test drive and "everything checks out on the computer", the tech (Hector) noticed all four tires (sounds like a rotation issue to me) were wearing excessively on the inside. Anyway 4 new Michelins (warranty comp'd - awesome job here Lexus) and I'm back to the mileage and coasting feel I had before the infamous rotor repair! If you've noticed a mileage drop/coasting feel change after a wheel rotation, check the wheel balance and for excessive tire wear!
  4. So I just re-installed the latest 100i unit with the latest firmware. I had viastech disable the aux port so this is just an ipod adapter. I had them do this because it was not able to detect nothing was connected to the aux port. I didn't like always seeing the empty (quiet) aux port when I cycled through the cd choices. the latest firmware also fully supports the RX radio in Cd text mode. I see the title for the songs and they now change as the songs change. when you restart the car, the text update kicks in as expected. Before you had to turn the radio off then on again. and even then the text output was problematic. The only nit I still have (and this is not that big a deal) is the gain via the viastech is about 10% less (my ears) than the built in radio/cd. what this means is you have to turn the sound up when you select the viastech. If you want the most seamless ipod experience upgrade to the latest firmware. As to the nav screen question, the RX radio doesn't use it - so the viastech doesn't either.
  5. Hi intensifi, i was wondering where you got the audiovox units installed? did the dealer do that for you and if you dont mind...what was the cost? thanks much...just trying to decide whether or not to get the factory RSES. ← Pro Audio, Union City, CA My dealer fronted it for me so I had not risk.
  6. I really like the coasting feeling you get with the 400H. Unfortunately I had the squeaky brake rotor (known) problem. They replaced my rotors. Now my mileage is noticeable worse (2-3 mpg). After the ROTOR repair, that coasting sensation is gone. It's pratically like driving a gas powered car. I noticed it immediately, but they said just drive it for while and see how it feels. 2000 miles later and still no joy! The dealer claims nothing is wrong eventhough the service tech and I took a new one and mine for a ride. The new one drove like mine used to. The tech even noticed it. Any ideas on what could have happened and how to fix it? The local techs are stumped. This has really got me down. I feel ripped off but Lexus doesn't seem to care.
  7. Be very careful. I had the same known problem. They replaced my rotors. Now my mileage is noticeable worse (2-3 mpg). The 400H has this great "coasting" feel to it. After the brake repair, that coasting sensation is gone. It's pratically like driving a gas powered car. 8. upgraded. I do not have the factory rear dvd system. I opted for the audiovox units in the headrests since the factory center drop down unit seemed to block my view and others said it hurt their necks to always have to look at the center.
  9. It sounds pretty good with my iPod mini. However the interface is a bit quirky (at least to my tastes). Below is a note I sent to their tech support today. Questions: 1) Is there any way to have the unit SKIP the AUX input (or iPod input) when pressing the MODE button (steering wheel) or the DISC button (AUDIO System) if there is NOTHING connected to the AUX (or iPod) input? I only plan on using this for the iPod interface it provides. I think not displaying a choice is cleaner as it unclutters the interface. Note you cannot even select TAPE or CD on the factory audio system if no media is loaded. 2) The installer left the AIC-100i in MD mode. No text displays for iPod songs or playlist titles. Is there anything to be gained by switching it to CD Emulation MODE? Leaving it in MD MODE seems to make it easier to determine the "extra" inputs are active since displaying "MD1" is clearly different from "CD" being displayed. 3) When I press the DISC button (audio system) it cycles through the options (built-in CD, AUX and iPod) per your manual. However, when I use the MODE button (steering wheel). It does not first go to the AUX and then to the iPOD interface. It goes to AUX the first time through and then through the FM/AM/CD cycle again and then goes to the iPod interface on the second iteration. This is not good. 4) The manual says AUX appears as 11-1 (since MD Text isn't active in my car) with MD1 in the display, but it also says it supports 12 playlists on the iPod with MD1 also in the display. If I have 11 (or more) playlists, when I start playlist 11 won’t the two modes be indistinguishable? Please advise. NOTE: If you are coming out with revised firmware to fix these issues, I'd be happy to test it for you.
  10. So it looks like by measuring at the pump and not via the onboard gauges, the mileage may be close to what Lexus claims. Lexus should fix the gauges if possible. Here is the part that makes NO sense to me. Why disengage the battery on a dead stop start when there is sufficient charge left in the battery? If the battery is almost drained, then fine, engage the engine on acceleration. If not, let the battery do most of the work unless I punch it. To not engage the gas engine on a standing start takes a great deal of patience and is guaranteed to get horns blaring at you from behind. A normal acceleration in city traffic almost always kicks in the gas engine. It strikes me that Lexus should make a software update available that lets one put the car in performance mode or mileage mode. Since I really have few occasions to use the 0-60 time, I'd rather have it in mileage mode. I toyed with calling it economy mode (instead of mileage mode), but given the check I just had to write, I thought it a bit innappropriate. B) Overall a great car! I'm just venting a bit on this mileage/battery thing.
  11. Its'completely smooth with no complaints on acceleration or braking or the transition from electric to/from gas. It just seems that the gas engine kicks in way too easily when accelerating at lower speeds. I tried to stay at the "threshold" not to go into gas mode and I was getting some serious horn honks from behind. It felt as if I was going too slow even for my own tastes. And I'm not a jack rabbit starter! Maybe I have a dud! I'll take it in on Monday and have the mechanic give me a real tutorial.
  12. So I took delivery yesterday. I have been very careful not to do jack rabbit starts but the best I can do in full battery mode is 22mph flat before the engine kicks in. The total mileage is 19 mpg at present. Any ideas if this is the normal state? If so ..... Note I have not yet achieved a fully charged battery.
