  1. I wish guys. The problem has been going on for three years or so and I just put a new battery in a couple of months ago, for what turned out to be a starter thing. Which by the way thanks to this forum, I changed myself and saved 700.00 dollars, thank you very much. The dealer told me that my computer was bad and for 1,500.00 he'd be glad to fix it. Didn't seem worth it to fix the clock. I still can't get over it,but in one month I've already saved almost 2,000.00 because of you guys. I feel like I need to buy someone lunch or tickets to a ball game or something. I changed a starter myself took thirty minutes and cleaned that IACV. I been afraid to work on my Lexus because I thought I would screw something up, but look at me now. Now that I think about it, I haven't tried to set the clock since I changed the battery, but then again the dealer would no about the battery thing and they would never try to sell me something I didn;t need.
  2. I just want to thank everyone for the help. I am amazed at how easy it was to change the starter in my RX300. I haven't worked on a car since my 66 Mustang; I've been afraid to with all the fancy computer stuff. Anyway it took my 35 minutes with nothing more than a socket set. Saved me $700.00. Thanks again.
  3. The starter is suprisingly easy to replace. First take off the air filter box. Open the air filter box and remove the filter. Disconnect the air line from the air filter box which connects to the throttle body (this is done using a 10 mm socket or phillips screw driver and loosening the clamp). Disconnect the sensor and vacuum line which connect into the air filter box. Next, remove the 3 bolts from the bottom of the air filter box. Once this is done you should be able to remove the air filter box as one complete piece and take out of engine compartment (place bolts inside the box and place to the side of your working area). Next disconnect both battery terminals. Remove battery bracket which holds battery in place (this runs across the top of the battery and bolts into the sheet metal along the front of the engine area). Remove battery from engine comartment. Remove rectangle casing surrounding the battery. Once the air filter box and battery have been completely removed, you will see the starter just to the left of where the air filter box and battery were. The starter is apprximately level with the base support of the battery. The starter has 2 bolts to be removed along with the contact terminal and sensor. Remove the two bracket bolts which bolt into engine (should be 14 mm I think) which are locate on each side of the starter (look at the replacement to locate exact position). Next remove the contact terminal (should be 10mm) connected to starter. Next remove sensor clip (this is done by squeezing the end and pulling off). \ Once starter is removed: Bolt contect connection onto new starter (should be 10mm). Re-insert sensor clip to new starter by pushing it in until you hear it click or until it is securely in. Next, line up starter bolt holes with bolt holes on engine block and start threading BOTH bolts before tightening one down. Snug bolts securely. NOW YOU HAVE REPLACED THE STARTER!!!! Replace Battery and terminal connections (red to + and black to -) and battery bracket. Replace air filter box and reconnect all connections taken loose. Bolt 3 bolts at base of filter box back to original position. NOTE: when replacing filter box, make sure the opening on the right hand side of box (large open hole) lines up with air intake opening from right side of engine compartment. Connect hose back to throttle body by tightening clamp. Replace sensor connections and vacuum line to air filter box. Replace air filet if needed in filter box. Clamp air filter down. START IT UP!!!!!! TJMC11 I owe you lunch if you're ever in LA. Pepboys wanted $900.00 to put in a starter. I've been afraid to do anything with my Lexus because I thought I'd mess it up, however your post gave me the confidence to try. Took me 35 minutes and a $175.00 starter, it starts and runs great. Thanks so much.
  4. May be you need re-program your key remote. Need how to program the remote key? Email me @ ssuen2005@yahoo.com CoolWater, I have the instructions, or what I think is the instructions. It seems to make it as it should all the way to the end but won't do the final thing, don't remember what that is though.
  5. My digital clock always says 1:00, although I guess Jimmy B. says it's 1:00 oclock somewhere, or something like that. Anyway my remote key won't program either, may be related. Thanks
  6. I've got a good one. I bought my 1999nLexus RX300 on ebay about four years ago. It has been great but little things keep poping up that have become big things. A couple of years ago my clock quit working, always stays at 1:00. My remote was working really poorly so I purchased an after model key online, it won;t program for some reason. I also got a regular key without the remote stuff and it worked fine, the remote worked as a regular key but no remote stuff. Next problem the old idles poorly. I had taken it to Pep boys and while it was in the shop I decided to get on this forum just to see. I saw that that problem could be solved by cleaning a sensor so when the PP called and told me it would be 1,200.oo to fix the problem I told him never mind. Brought the car home cleaned the sensor, its been running great the last six months. Next problem my starter started the clicking thing a couple of months ago, it would start after four or five tries so being a cheap skate I didn;t worry about it. This evening the starter started so well that it wouldn;t stop. The engine started but the starter continued to run. Had to disconnect the battery. So could all of my problems be related or do I have a bad computer, bad starter and or something else. If it is a starter am I man enough to change it? Thanks so much for already saving me 1,200.00 already.
