  1. Anyone tried the Pirelli Scorpion STR A? Some reported an increase in road noise with the geolanders, but I haven't found any noise reports on the Pirelli tire. I currently have Kelly Safari tires (similar to the LTXs) and do like them....and they are holding up quite well with almost 50K on them...a little less than half the tread life left. They are a bit noisy, though.
  2. I too had my rear main seal replaced around 70,000 miles. Took it to a dealer to have them change the spark plugs and they found it. I let it be for a few months but it was replaced under my extended warranty (3rd party company...well worth the money). What I am about to type some will not agree with, and I was leery at first, but I did a search on "Rear main seal leaks" online and found all types of additives to your oil to help fix the problem. I wanted to stay away from stuff like Slick 50 and all of the other synthetic oil based products since they have been reported to increase sludge. However, I found stuff called auto-rx. You can read all about it on their web site at www.auto-rx.com. I was very leery of the product, but after much reading on their discussion board, I decided to give it a shot. It is a three stage process. It cleans the seals and then reconditions them to help them not leak anymore. It also cleans engine sludge. I am not saying that it is a miracle liquid, but my mpg jumped through the roof and my seal stopped leaking. I had it replaced anyways, just for good measure, but this stuff worked for me. Others will warn you not to do things like this, and I would have been one of them.....but this stuff worked for me. To see what sludge it cleaned out, I cut my oil filter open and checked it out...man it did some serious cleaning. I never snapped any photos, but it worked for me. Again, I am not saying this stuff is perfect, but it did the trick for me and I have a much more fuel efficient car now than before. Check it out on their web site and see how it works before you trash it. No, not a dealer, and wouldn't be, but it did work for me. Just my experience.
  3. Thanks so much for the reply. They are indeed IR headsets. I remember seeing something that looked like an IR eye on the screens in the headrests...so I will give that a shot today and see if it works. I am afraid that since it is an aftermarket system that I should have the other type of headsets...not the factory Lexus ones. Who knows...I guess I will find out soon enough!! Thanks again!!
  4. I am trying to figure out how to use the wireless headphones that are SUPPOSED to work with the aftermarket DVD system installed in an 02 LX470. When we purchased the vehicle just a month or so back (it is a CPO), the dealer told us that it came with headphones but they were in bad condition and that we wouldn't want them. After I thought about it more, I decided to call them back and have them mail the headsets to me anyways. Got them in and they are (baiscally) new Lexus brand wireless headsets. I turned them on (yup, new batteries) and the power light indicated that they were on. Put in a DVD and it was playing perfectly over the sound system. Put on the headsets (yes, power on...I am for sure) and there was nothing but occasional static when I turned my head from side to side. There was another little switch on it that i moved back and forth and it didn't do anything either. Any ideas here? There are two headsets and neither worked. Are aftermarket systems set up differently than the factory Lexus system in this respect? I fear I will have to call the dealer again, but I am growing tired of speaking with them!! They really don't know much until I bring it in....which is a 2.5 hour drive! Thanks for any help and suggestions. I appreciate your time.

  6. While I certainly don't fall under the "sever operating conditions" for my RX either, I will be replacing them at 90K....not because that is when I have to change them, but just for peace of mind. The way I look at it, anything over 90K is a risk. I am at 80K right now and mine have started to chirp a little. It goes away after a few minutes & the belts are still very tight. I might replace mine a little early. Don't know what Lexus charges to have it done, but I had a quote from an independent certified lexus/toyota service shop for both belts for $75.00 + tax. Not too bad.
  7. http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...&f=5&t=6671&st= That got me there. I just searched for "suspension support" and it is a topic that I started. It was some time ago, so I had to sift through things. Let me know if you can't get it to work
  8. Hello everyone...I recently had the same problem. It was my passenger side front strut mount. There is actually a TSIB (I think that is what it is called) out on this problem...I found it at Clublexus.com. Unfortunatly I noticed mine when it was out of the manuf. warranty. Luckily I had an extended warranty so it didn't cost me much. I read a DIY procedure on that some time back on here....someone else had the same problem. You might search for it. The dealer called it my "suspension support" I think it would have been around $400 if I had to pay the dealer to do it. Maybe a little less. So, I think that is your problem as well.
  9. Has anyone had these problems come up after 100K ? I have been doing drain & fills on the tranny every 15K since I got my 99 RX (it had 32K on it when I purchased it). I am thinking about changing my routine to doing a drain & fill every time I change the oil...so every 3K instead of 15K. I have been using the T-IV fluid (pain in the rear to have to go to a toyota dealer & get it), so it is all stock. I am curious though to see if they are using the same fluid in the new RX330 model. My parents have an 02 LX and it uses the Dextron type fluid. Just curious. I have heard lots of things recommended on the service, but I plan on at 100K dropping the pan & cleaning it out. I just figure that doing the changes so frequently has kept things fairly fresh. Who knows. If something happens with mine, I just hope it happens before my extended warranty runs out at 100K. I just clicked over 80K on the vehicle. I guess I won't be buying first production year models any more!!
  10. I purchased an uncut key for my 99 RX on eBay some time ago. I think I paid around $75 for it. It came with programming instructions for the remote entry, but I had to find someone to cut it. I got lucky and there was someone in a near by town... but others have had a difficult time finding someone who can cut them. It cost me $25 to have it cut. So, my advice is to keep looking on ebay for an uncut key...or search this forum for the topic b/c someone posted a link to an online source you could purchase from sometime back. I don't remeber what the URL was though. Good luck!!
  11. I honestly have no idea how they did it. I know the mechanic told me that they "robbed" the frequency from the NAV to display the DVD....but we can watch movies on the rear headrests & also have the NAV going on the front screen. I wouldn't even know where to tell you to begin. I have done installs on things like this before, but never dealing with a nav system. That just changes everything for me!!
  12. That honestly disappoints me.....I think the lx 470 is **THE** nicest SUV on the market...and I will be sad to see it go.
  13. Looks great...I am glad to see those results....I am about to do that same combo (with S2000 as a topper) on my black 99 RX300. Looks wonderful....Great job!!
  14. I had the same thing in my RX and my strut mount was damaged. I just had it replaced...but you described it perfectly. I also had a dealer look at it while it was under "Lexus" warranty....and they didn't find anything. However, it never went away and finally had it looked at at a different Lexus dealership and that is what they found. I had mount replaced (and the ball bearing and all that other stuff) but they didn't replace the strut...said it looked just fine. Hope this helps.
  15. I switched to synthetic around 65K on my RX (1999) and had leaks. I actually ended up getting my rear main seal replaced. So, I don't recommend it, but I am no mechanic.
  16. Just a question....how many miles does your RX have on it? Also, did you regularly change the tranny fluid? My reason for asking is not to point blame, but I am trying to decide whether I should buy another extended warranty after my current one runs out. I have around 78K on our RX and I have regularly changed the fluid. I know lots don't promote 3rd party extended warranties....but I can handle a $50 deductable a lot better than 2-5K for a rebuilt tranny!! Thanks!
  17. I just did it tonight and the instructions were great!! Took about an hour to get it all done. I just swapped it with another bulb that isn't hardly ever used. Thanks again for the great instructions.....they just saved me a ton of money!!
  18. Wow...thanks for the great info. I will be trying this when I get home from work. I just hate looking down and knowing that a little light is supposed to be on & it isn't. Thanks again!
  19. Did you have to get the light from a dealer or were you able to find it online? I have searched several parts places and haven't found anything yet. Thanks for the info!
  20. I didn't initially think that I could post something like this, but I am an RX owner and noticed that a guy was informing everyone of his RX for sale & thought I would give it a try. My parents have a 1996 SC300 with around 73K miles on it. White/Tan leather interior. Car is in wonderful shape and drives great. I have the car right now to take some pictures so I can sell it online. I realize that a lot of people here modify their cars and wanted to state that this one has not been modified at all. It is all stock. The only thing they have done is change the tires (along with all the other maintenance)...but other than that, the car is all original. They want around 11,500 for it & were offered 10,800 when they took it to trade on their new LX. The car is located in Breckenridge, Texas (half way in-between Abilene & Ft. Worth). If anyone is interested in the vehicle, please feel free to e-mail me at skip@sunsetpass.com and I will gladly send you more info. I will have a lot of pics that I can send as well. Thanks everyone!!
  21. On my inst. panel, the light that shines behind the D when in drive has burned out. While getting other service done, I asked them how much it would be to replace it....about 115.00!!!! I just couldn't pay that to have it done. Does anyone know how to replace that thing? I just don't want to tear anything up by taking the inst. panel out. I have done lots of installations in cars before & am experienced with taking off the dash and things like that....but I haven't tried it yet in an RX. Anyways, any info would be helpful!!! Thanks!!
  22. I had my plugs changed at 70K and the dealership told me that I didn't need them changed until after 90K miles.....so I am sure they didn't under the 60K service unless you asked them to. I went ahead and had mine changed anyways though.
  23. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...sspagename=WDVW I found this nav update DVD on ebay. Just a thought
  24. Thanks for the reply VGR...I will be doing that this afternoon.
  25. My parents have a tv tuner antenna in their lx and it is installed on the top inside of their front windshield. It is basically invisible unless you are really looking. I don't know the brand of it but will look tomorrow if you are interested. It seems to work really well.
