  1. My friend used to own a gas station and he always told me that no matter what station you are filling at do NOT get gas while the delivery truck is there. He says that during the dumping process that it stirs up so much sediment in the storage tanks that the filters have a hard time filtering it all..

He would not even get gas at his own station for his car, and it was free..

  2. With the scenero you just described, FLASHBACK I can hear one of my kids telling me that the roads are not that bad, and they will be really careful driving to the Justin Timberlake concert.. Please dad, pretty please....

    JUST SAY NO!

  3. I also Disagree with you Jibby.. I fortunately had to raise girls but having grown up with 5 brothers know how boys can be. Look at Hulk Hogans kid. That kid has no respect for the road or law and almost killed himself and his friend. His parents promoted, encouraged and funded his recklessness and they should be held responsible. This kid flaunted his arrogance around like he was untouchable.. It caught up to him.. Hulk should have beat his !Removed! when he got pulled over 3 times within a couple of hours for speeding in his VIPER...

Sure, there are always success story's of kids who have made the right decision on thier own.. Good for them, but the parent sometimes must say NO..

My daughter wanted to get her belly button pierced and get a Tatoo at 13. I said no.. She was not happy about it.. She asked again at 16.. I said no again.. Still was not happy about it. She is much older now and is thankful I said no... Some parents don't think its a big deal, I happen to be one that does..

Some kids still can't make a mature decision at 25. Some make great decisions at 16.. A parent has to recognize this ability and act accordingly.

Some parents let thier kids have guns. To give thier children guns without safety and awareness of how to use it is irresponsible of the Parent.

Some parents let thier kids have Crotch Rockets. Having owned many rice burners. It would be irresponsible for a parent to let thier kid purchase a Kawasaki ZX9 or Yamaha R1 as thier first bike.. Way too much power for the beginner.. THE PARENT MUST SAY NO IN THIS POSITION.. Start off with something smaller so you can learn to ride..

Many times my daughters did not talk to me for months and I was the bad guy., but guess what they are alive and happy..

In summary, as long as that teen lives under the Parents roof, the parent must sometimes make the proper decision for them..

PS.. Jibby.. You cannot compare your NOVA SS to the BMW. I like you, had a fast car in my youth.. 74 plymouth Duster 340... But when it was doing 100 MPH you new it and you were driving it trying to keep it straight with that 12 inch 5 spoke foam steering wheel......

  4. RIM's outage along with AT&T would have no impact on Bluetooth functions as far as detecting and connecting to other Bluetooth devices.

Have you been able to pair up your phone with your Lexus? While in Bluetooth mode NOT phone mode on your blackberry. (same screen as the Devices you have been paired with) can you go to options and see if Transfer address book is there..? That is where I have to go on my BB Curve.

  5. By design, it will not engage in rain or snow.. (when it detects inclement weather).

Mine did the same thing and I found a small amount of some snow that had accumulated around the edges of the sensor. (was not snowing or raining at the time of disengagement). Once I cleaned it, all was well..

Make sure that your sensors on your front bumper are clean and free of debris..

  6. Hello all

I am on a business trip hundreds of miles away from my home and MANUALS.. It has been raining alot while I have been traveling and now my AFS OFF light is flashing. Continues to flash for many minutes and then quits.. My headlights seem to be lower (top cutoff line) than normal.. Do the manuals say anything about the Flashing AFS OFF indicator. Is this a auto height leveling problem? I thought maybe that my lights were dirty from the excessive rain so I cleaned them and now it seems like the AFS OFF light does not flash as long but I am not sure.. Just hoping maybe.. Still the lights are adjusted low..

PS.. AFS OFF light continues to flash even if I turn on the AFS OFF switch.. Once the flashing stops and I press the switch the light will come on normally..

    Thanks

PSS.. could not do a search of the forum for this as the AFS does not meet the four character minimum requirement.. Can we change that?

  7. hello all

Finally took the time to validate this new serviced menu... Nothing there worth anything for the casual driver... No additional overides for phone, etc...

The only thing you can change settings on is blue tooth voice quality.. settings value 1 through 3 I did not change to test as mine is working fine so I can't tell you the diff between 1 and 3.. I can tell you that you can change the settings without wiping out your NAV system...

All other options are system checks.. I went through them all without any system crash's

IN summary, I would say unless you are having problems with you Bluetooth phone quality, this new service menu is of no value...

But this is just my evaluation... Check for yourselves.....at your own risk.. I did this with discretion.

I see nothing above what I have gotten from the Ultimate lockpick....

  8. Are you saying that your temperature gauge goes to max and then returns back to normal operating range once you start driving again..?

I would check your thermostat first. Your engine can he hot while your thermostat will not open to allow flow into your heater core causing it to blow cooler air..

With Temperatures as cold as they are right now 0 degrees and below make sure your coolant is good for those temps as it can freeze and stick your thermostat...

  9. I purchased my LS 430 from the president of the company I work for and it was leased. Because it was leased through the company expense was not spared at all. It never missed any scheduled maintenance. In fact every time it went in for its regular maintenance he had it detailed at $180 a pop.. He took great care of this vehicle and it shows.

I am not sure that it is whether it is purchased or leased that contributes to vehicle abuse but rather the character of the owner\driver. I would do the same research either way.. The only type of vehicle that I would not purchase is one from a rental agency.. I take care of all my vehicles but I have to say when I am on a business trip and have to rent a car, I drive the car pretty hard. If you have a chance to purchase a 07 Silver Mustang from Budget Rental I would pass on that one.... LOL....

  10. Love that story !!!

Woke up to this crap this morning!! This is how my LS rides in the snow with my Michelin sport Pilots.. Get great traction on the dry concrete in the heated garage...

  11. Having lived in the foothills of Colorado and driving in the mountains for many years they have a thing called the CHAIN LAW. When it snows bad they will post the CHAIN LAW IS IN EFFECT (CHAINS ONLY).. which means you cannot drive unless you have chains or studs on your tires..

I am sure they did this because they got tired of pulling all the people who thought that thier snow tires perform better than Chains and studs out of the ditch or off the side of the mountain..

    Colorado Chain Law

The Colorado Chain Law is the popular term for the requirement for use of tire chains or adequate snow tires on mountain highways during heavy snow conditions. The term is somewhat of a misnomer because chains are not always required. There are two levels of the law that may be invoked as follows.

Chains or adequate snow tires required

This level requires the use of snow tires or traction devices such as chains, cable chains, etc. All-season radials do not necessarily qualify as snow tires. The tire must have the mud-and-snow designation on the sidewall (M+S).

    Chains only

When this level is in effect, chains are required. The statute defines tire chains as either conventional, steel-link tire chains or traction devices of alternate materials and/or design provided that they are "capable of providing traction equal to or exceeding that of such metal chains under similar conditions" (42-4-106(5)(a)(I), CRS). Four-wheel drive vehicles are permitted to operate without tire chains provided that they have adequate tires.

  12. Left this morning to go to Fort Wayne Indiana from Muskegon Michigan. I have new Michelin Pilots on my LS and there was 2 to 3 inches of fresh snow on the roads. 30 minutes into the trip I aborted because I was not comfortable with the way it was riding..(Blowing snow and ICE) Even with the traction control in the SNOW mode. Quite frankly the LS has too much power to the rear wheels to handle well on ICY roads with These PILOTS on....

  13. Average selling price of your 94 LS 400 is $6300. With a high listing of $11000 and a low of $3000 (Autotrader.com). If you were to be asking for the higher end I would say sell it as a whole rather than pieces, as you would have to sell alot of pieces to get up to 11K. If you were going to sell it for $3K then you might come out ahead piecing it out.. but think of the labor involved and the eyesore it would leave in your driveway.. Also, isn't there some LEXUS code of ethics against dismantling a perfectly good running LS for parts? LOL

I say sell it as a whole..

  14. Hello all

I am currently downloading documents from the Techinfo.Toyota site.. My subscription runs out shortly but if anyone needs a specific document, I will see if I can find it before I get booted off..

By the way. It is not as simple as paying your $10 and downloading the service manual. You have to go into each section and download each individual PDF file. You also need to create a folder structure and filenaming convention so you will know what the PDF file is because many of them are named WO.pdf or something silly like that.. So far I have over 4 hours invested in this.. I certainly have gotten my $10 dollars worth.
