  1. First,, Always use credit cards when purchasing over the internet.. NEVER debit cards... Second always use credit cards with buyer Protection on them..

I made a purchase on ebay that went bad. Called my credit card company and sent them a letter regarding the transaction and they credited my money within 30 days.

So, Long story short.. If your credit card has buyer protection on it.. They will refund your money if the transaction does not go through.. (assuming you do not default on any paperwork they sent you) and the default was on thier side. They will go after the fraudulent seller..

I would not worry about the car being sold underneath you and them NOT returning your deposit.. Make sure you keep records of paperwork, Emails, conversations as this will be necessary if you need to have your credit card company return your money..

However, if you back out of the deal now you will most definately lose your 1K.. So what do have to lose..?

I would be concerned about the delivery of the vehicle.. Are they going to have someone drive it to your house.. Trailer it? I would not want someone I don't know driving my new car 3000 miles...

Good Luck.. What car on ebay are you looking at?

  2. The City road crew just came through our neighborhood and slapped a bunch of tar in all the pot holes.. Now you have to watch out for the holes and loose tar that comes up and sticks to your car. By the way, they do not do a very professional job here in Michigan as far as road repair.. Typically 8 guys standing around a hole with two guys with shovels throwing tar into a hole from a pick up truck or trailer. No compaction with a roller or anything like that..

Like they say around here, we have two seasons.. Winter and road construction

  3. That is good news..However, You technically do NOT own the car.. It is just registered in your name still and you are still liable for tickets, etc.. If you still OWNED the car you could report it stolen and put your ex mechanic in a world of trouble and I am sure then he would get off his !Removed! and fix the problems..

  4. Here in Michigan where pot holes are more linke 2 foot sink holes, I have to say that while driving my Lexus or Camaro I am extemely sensitive to pot holes, speed bumps, rail road tracks, etc.. But while driving my S10 or Durango not so much.. In fact while coming home the other day from work driving my Durango, instead of pulling into my freshly snow blown driveway I chose to barrel my way through and over a four foot snow drift that was at the beginning of my driveway.. Why..? It was just down right fun.. My Durango was bouncing back and forth, up and down and I about smashed my head against the drivers window... I walked into the house and my wife was just shaking her head with disbelief but did not say a word..

You get a certain feeling of invincibility to these things when you are driving a truck with big tires...and I am sure that the guy in front of you driving the new F150 felt the same way.. That is not to say I abuse my vehicles (trucks) but you know what your suspension and tires can handle. A pot hole that would not affect a truck at all could certainly cause damage to a rim on a car..

  5. If you are held liable for these fines you should be able to get them back in small claims court.. If that happens and you can't find this mechanic, there are many ways of finding this guy on the internet and it may only cost you $25..

Rent some Judge Judy DVD's to see how to handle yourself in court.. LOL..

    Keep us posted

  6. If you took your plates off the car when you gave it to the mechanic.. How are you getting tickets?

Having a copy of the title or bill of sale would be a plus.. You definately need to go down to the DMV and have the registration taken out of your name ASAP.

Unfortunately there is not a whole lot you can do when you go to court other than tell the judge your story..Tell the judge you are going to go immediately to the DMV and take care of it. Judges like facts and timelines.. Go there will all the documentation you have and make yourself a timeline with the date you gave the car to your mechanic and any coversations you had with him regarding what he was going to do to "FIX IT".. If you had insurance on the Cadillac take some documentation showing when you cancelled the policy. This will help support your case..

Lets say you totalled your car and the insurance company issued you a check and you gave them the title..You would think that they would take care of the rest.. Not true..and it is a common problem.. Many times this vehicle will find its way back into the USED car market and can still can have a retro relationship to you..You need to make sure you get a clear release from that vehicle either with a copy of the signed title, bill of sale or go the the DMV and have it transferred..

Did you get hit all at once for these tickets? Was the car abandoned somewhere? Here in Michigan that car would have been tagged and then impounded in a manner of days.. I would ask to see a copy of all violations and when they occurred..

    Good Luck

  7. I agree with your opinion of the welfare system.. Here in michigan it is jacked up..

I own a few homes that I rent out.. some of my tenants are on welfare and sometimes have to sell thier food stamps to pay rent.. Yet they always seem to have expensive hair and nails.. They really don't make much of an effort other than to have more children so they can get more money from the government..

This is a true story: I was shocked to hear this but I guess many people do it.. My tenants daughter is 21 and has 2 childeren. She gets assistance for these kids. She works at an employment agency for a few months a year to earn around 1800 to 2000.. Come tax time she will claim what she earned from the employment agency which is not enough to get earned income credit.. She will then say she made $1200 doing hair on the side..which will get her over the $3000 amount needed to get the earned income credit. She pays the tax on the phoney $1200 she reported but nets a couple thousand in the end in income tax refunds...These people are clearly working the system and we have to pay for it....

  8. Your Social Security

Just in case some of you young whippersnappers (& some older ones too!!) didn't know this. It's easy to check out, if you don't believe it.

Be sure and show it to your kids. They need a little history lesson on what's what .And, it doesn't matter whether you are Democrat or Republican. Facts are Facts!!!

    Our Social Security

Franklin Roosevelt, a Democrat, introduced the Social

    Security (FICA) Program. He promised:

1.) That participation in the Program would be

    Completely voluntary,

2.) That the participants would only have to pay

1% of the first $1,400 of their annual

    Incomes into the Program,

3.) That the money the participants elected to put

into the Program would be deductible from

their income for tax purposes each year,

4.) That the money the participants put into the

independent "Trust Fund" rather than into the

general operating fund, and therefore, would

only be used to fund the Social Security

    Retirement Program, and no other

    Government program, and,

5.) That the annuity payments to the retirees

would never be taxed as income.

Since many of us have paid into FICA for years and are

now receiving a Social Security check every month --

and then finding that we are getting taxed on 85% of

the money we paid to the Federal government to "put

away" -- you may be interested in the following:

    -------------------------------------------------------------

Q: Which Political Party took Social Security from the

independent "Trust Fund" and put it into the

general fund so that Congress could spend it?

A: It was Lyndon Johnson and the democratically

    controlled House and Senate.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------

Q: Which Political Party eliminated the income tax

deduction for Social Security (FICA) withholding?

    A: The Democratic Party.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------

Q: Which Political Party started taxing Social

    Security annuities?

A: The Democratic Party, with Al Gore casting the

"tie-breaking" deciding vote as President of the

Senate, while he was Vice President of the US

    -------------------------------------------------------------------

Q: Which Political Party decided to start giving

    annuity payments to immigrants?

    AND MY FAVORITE:

    A: That's right!

Jimmy Carter and the Democratic Party.

immigrants moved into this country, and at age 65,

began to receive Social Security payments! The

Democratic Party gave these payments to them,

even though they never paid a dime into it!

    -------------- -------------------------- ------------------------------

Then, after violating the original contract (FICA), the Democrats turn around and tell you that the Republicans want to take your Social Security away!

And the worst part about it is uninformed citizens believe it!

If enough people receive this, maybe a seed of

awareness will be planted and maybe changes will

evolve. Maybe not, some Democrats are awfully

    sure of what isn't so.

But it's worth a try. How many people can YOU send this to?

Actions speak louder than bumper stickers.

AND CONGRESS GIVES THEMSELVES 100% RETIREMENT FOR ONLY SERVING ONE TERM!!!

A government big enough to give you everything you want, is strong enough to take everything you have.

    -Thomas Jefferson

  9. Its amazing how the question of SHOULD I CLAIM Insurance has turned into a thread of Corruption in the OLE USA...

Please lets not turn this into a USA bashing thread. AMERICA and AMERICANS are the most giving and caring people in the world.. I am proud to be an american and proud to pay taxes.. I am happy that I have a job where I can pay my taxes..

Comparing Paying Insurance VS Paying taxes is Ridiculous..There will always be corruption and conspiracy in the US. But who else can shoot a satelitte out of space from a boat floating in the ocean with one shot and pinpoint accuracy?

Do I have a problem with the IRAQ war no.. Could it have been handled better and quicker.. Yes

By the way,, Ignorance is not being stupid..it just means your uninformed.. once your informed you are no longer ignorant..

PS.. What are you going to do with your $600 or $1200 stimulus check..

    This thread should be moved!!

  10. One way to get better fuel economy is to make sure your A/C switch is off when not needed. I have noticed mine stays on all the time even when the heat is on.. I turn off the A/C button in the winter as I don't really car if the air is CONDITIONED...

  11. Great, thanks alot you just ruined my secret hiding space....Now all police officers across the country will know where to look for peoples stash!!

I did not know they were there either.. I found them one day while I was detailing my interior. I will use them to put my wallet in while I am at the beach this summer.. They are GREAT hidden compartments....

  12. Follow Jcromes guess.. It was a good one..

80 watt RMS 150 Peak for the sub.. You will probably find a good dual voice coil that will have to be wired in parallel to achieve your two ohm load.. There are alot of posts on this forum with lots of pix, what to buy and how to's on this subject..

All other speakers with 50 watt RMS and 125 Peak will perform well.. Tweeters are usually not a problem as the Crossover Network filters out all the lower frequencies to the larger components that require most of the power..

    Good luck

  13. I assume JIBBBY is single because not wanting Life or homeowners insurance if you had a family us Ludicrous and Irresponsible.. What would your family live on if you passed away. Unless your independantly wealthy..

Why would you not spend $500 year to protect your home from things out of your control... Burglary, etc.. Last year I had a pipe freeze and burst and caused $25,000 in damage. I am thankful that I had insurance and a company that came in and said don't worry about a thing, we'll take it from here. And they did and all it cost me was $500 deductable.

I have a feeling you will learn the hard way some day and say.. Damn, I wish I had insurance... But all the best luck to you.. I hope you never need insurance.. By the way, do you have medical insurance?

But back to the thread topic, After paying your deductable, I would not put in a claim of only $500 to $1000 as you will pay more than that later in higher premiums...
