  1. 2001 gs 430. 93,000 miles. Had aaa replace battery for me. Lasted 2 months then while driving and stopped at a red light. Lights started to flicker nav went off and rpms went thru roof battery light on with cel. Made it thru light and about a half mile to friends house. Pulled into his driveway car dies. Try and restart. Nothing. Pop hood check battery. Positive is dirty and loose. Clean and tighten. Jump it it's all good. Starts right up. Drives fine. Get 3 miles same thing. Lights nav off etc. No start again. Jump it. Starts back up no problem. Limp it back to my house all while doing the light and no nav rpm thing at every light. Turn off at house. No restart. Jump it no problem again. I'm thinking it's either battery or alternator. All the while my father is pulling the positive cable while sitting in car. Everything in car starts going crazy again. I get out yelling at him telling him this isnt the 60s. Cannot do that on these cars. Hooks it back car runs fine. But now won't accelerate while in drive. I turn off hoping he didn't kill my car. Restart. Now it drives but a little sluggish and the abs vsc vsc off light are on. Drive it around corner a couple times. Park it. Won't restart again. Tow it to dealer. Tell me battery fails test. Recommend replace. I say no problem. Also many codes are popping up. C0226,C0236,C0246,C0256,C1225, C1228 all concerning circuits in brake booster. C1223 abs control malfunction C1241 low battery positive voltage or abnormally high battery positive voltage. Need new brake booster and skid control ecu. Tells me car runs fine road test good. Ask if it's a drivability issue. Say no. It's a 5k repair so I say I'll take car and figure out my options. Drive car for 3 weeks no problems but abs vsc lights pop on and off and high pitch noise now. Start yesterday after sitting for a week while away working. Make it 2-3 miles.its Ok. Come out from bank no start. But clicking. Jump with booster from car place right near bank. Starts right up. Drive away. Then problems come back. No nav, rpms high battery light and cel on etc.. Drive it right to dealer. Try and restart. Clicking again. Any input appreciated. Do I need them parts or can it be a relay or fuse from taking off positive terminal? Could they be causing the no start issue?

  3. I am in the process of redoing steering system on my 1991 lexus ls400. Only part left is rack. My question is it safe to go with a rack from someone other then dealer? Say maval or somebody. Also is rack vehicle specific. I have read in prior forums of there being a specific letter on rack in car A-E i believe. Thanks prior for feedback!

I Have decided to overhaul a leaky steering system.I am actually on the verge of buying a 03 GS430 and my dad will be getting this car for now. i want to replace the whole steering system as suggested. Rack i will be getting from dealer(so if there is any problems with it all he has to do is take it right to dealer). I neeed suggestions on pump,pressure hose,grommets or flanges as they have been called. Tie rods i will wait ti see what they say. Also any other parts anyone might think off. I also nee a new intermediate shaft too.Please suggestions or comments are greatly appreciated as the inspection was up at the end of may.Thank you
  5. I was looking at some GS400 on auto trader. I am wondering what is the big difference it the packages that come with NAV. I currently have an in dashtv with all the options. Will this substitute for the NAV if i have this installed or will NAV stay there and it will go underneath? Also what are the package options for the 1998-2002?

  7. I currently own a 91 LS400 and want to but a newer GS400. I would like to get one 98 or newer. What should i be looking for in price,condition and mileage. Also what scheduled maintenance should i be looking for? I am not gonna get rid off my LS though. i would just like to get a newer car. I've looked at lots of different cars and i gotta say i always came back to a newer lexus. I kinda liked the Lincoln lS, but after they stopped making them. A big no on that. I have a 93SHO and that discontinuing stuff is bull*BLEEP*.Sorry to ramble on

  9. little cofused now because went to dealer put vin in and it came up 2 ""steering flange"" for 30 a piece

  12. Just a question on thise rack grommets they were on lexuspartsonline.com but were 85$ and they were under steering flange just wondering if these were the right things ?thnx
  13. I posted a problem with my steering ssystem for 1991 ls400.People advised me to go to maval.They told me they only sell to distributors.Need pump and rack.any help would be great.thnx

Got achance to look at my steering system.Whole lotta leaking.The boot on my rack is ripped and leaking, pump is leaking along with hose.Can anyone tell me if it is hard to replace whole system and if so point me in a direction with some instrustions on it.Ive looked at links posted so far but not sure on them cause i am replacing the whole units and not taking then apart.I did not flush system yet.Did not wanna waste time because boot was ripped and did not know if it would even make difference.Grommet bushings looked bad and am in process of ordering them.thanks for info so far.
  15. I got pump pulleys tensioners and idlers from dealership.Plus belt done 1yr and half ago for $1800-1850 forget exact.Plus other little things.Whole system crashed on me.they said it was better to do it all at once too.
  16. first i would like to thank everyone for there advice so far.Definitly thinking about keeping now.I agree with you on dealer(i used to know a guy that knew a guy at dealer) Parts are parts with good warranty.Dealer was saying reman ones were getting leaks in them at pressure valves or something.I am also in there comp for like 2.5kworth of work on it but really like 4, with all factory parts for it.New guy new system.Feel he is trying to work me over a little. Gonna look at them U clamp bushings, most likely problem.Should i put new pump on(he said something about alternator possibly going but recent problem) on before flushing system?Is repacing it easy or should i have mech do it?Is hose is to replace too?I am def gonna look at suspension. He also said intermidate shaft needed to be replaced.
  17. they also said pump assembly and hose was leaking too sry.do not know about spring insulators but strut absorbers and upper cushions and bumperswere replaced.Not to keen on knowing what eveything is. noise sounds like itsinfo coming form front center of car.I will get second opinion though.
  18. there is a shaking noise noise when you go over bumps sounds like rack is moving.none while turning.steering is slightly loose which is recent.

  20. :chairshot: I am new to forum wish i would of found it way earlier.Bought my 91 ls400 for 3k about 3 yrs ago.Had engine replaced with one from 94 before purchasing with 67kmiles.I had rear end work done when first purchased.Had to replace coolant system waterpump etc.7-8months later due to crack in resvoir tank that made system to shut itself down COSTLY!!!!At that time dealer told me of steering rack leak said not to major at time.drove for 6 months. Took it for inspection and hearmore bad news.Just replaced entire front end srtuts,bushings,ball joints etc. and they said steering system was bad due to rack unit leaking.Said i needed to replace Rack, power steering pump,power steering hose(high pressureline) and intermidate shaft.Told me not to look towards an aftermarket one due problems with them.I am trying to cut costs a little but do not want to cut short on the quality for the car as it is beautful and drives same way.Have put lots of work into her.Just think im getting a little too deep into it.Please some advice.OR SHOULD I JUST SELL!!
