  1. I am a man and I bought a 2009 RX350. I had the same issue that all the RX's I saw were driven by wemen. But I found there was a limited selection if you are looking for a SUV that can pull a sail boat and get decent milage. By putting a tailer hitch on the back I made it a guys vehicle. Bottom line, who cares if it is fun to drive, comfortable, and looks great. (:-)

Now if you added one of those bull you-know-whats, dangling from the hitch that I've seen around town, that would complete the masculine make-over of your RX 350!

  2. I'm also looking for reasonable independents, probably with a AAA logo out front, since I have questions about why the last Toyota dealer recommended a cabin filter and showed me a crapped-up filter probably from some Highlander that hadn't been serviced "ever", making like it was from my car. (Mine was changed 5000 miles earlier.)

Sounds like you need to find the right (and honest) Toyota dealership, because they're not all like that. I also take my RX 350 to a local Totota dealership, and have had nothing but excellent service. Typically the service I receive from Toyota is about half the price of what Lexus would charge for the exact same service and parts.

  3. The color temp for the factory xenon's are 4300k. This is the brightest of all the color temps. As you increase to 6000k, the color appears more blue but less light output.

Is your problem the sharp cutoff line created or just the light output? You won't get the light any brighter.

The 4300 does not appear bright enough to me. Has a more yellowish-look to it. I have 5000 HIDs on another car and they are bright white. I have 6000 HIDs on another car and they start going towards the blueish look.

Is anyone else unhappy with their OEMs HIDs?

    Thanks

    Andy

I have no problem at all with the OEM lights on my 08 RX 350..

  4. ...just won the J.D. Powers and Associates award for best mid-size SUV?

Absent the poor FE of the RDX engine due to derating until the turbo comes on line that award would have undoubtedly gone to the RDX.

The clear majority of the time the RDX engine runs in the derated, 8:1 compression ratio, mode.

    Shame.

But I wonder, like the RX350 buying public at large, if J D Powers wasn't also mislead into believing the RX350 has a center open diff'l aided by a VC.

    It doesn't.

Would you mind translating this into plain english for the rest of us? :(

  5. The RX series always has been and always will be a chick car....

It's one-third of what is known in the business as "The Girlie Trifecta", which consists of the Mazda Miata, the Lexus RX, and the sissiest car on the planet - the VW Cabriolet Convertible....

If you're a guy and you happen to own all three at the same time, rumor has it that you get two lifetime passes to "Cats" on Broadway, a week of cooking lessons in your home from Rachael Ray, and a 20-year free subscription to Oprah magazine....

LOL! I'm a guy, and based on that I'm glad that I only own one third of the 'trifecta'.., because I definitely could not deal with the consequences of owning all three!! :(

  6. Just purchased the new 2009 RX350.

When the engine is cold no problems starting up.

After the engine has warmed up it has to turn over some 8 times before starting.

It has been at the dealer since last Thursday morning 7:30 AM. They called late day on Thurday (5/15/2008) to tell me that the annalysing equipment is not giving any indication as to what the problem is and that they have called Lexus to help.

Reply should be forthcoming next Tuesday. WOW...talk about outstanding communication in this day and age.

Anybody out there having had this problem?

I have owned 2 Muranos back to back 2004 & 2006 totally problem free.

Have had my 08 RX 350 for a little more than a year now, and have never had any starting problems, either warm or cold. Hopefully it's just some mechanical issue/adjustment with your car that they can resolve quickly, and to your satisfaction.

  7. My 08 RX 350 owner's manual indicates that the temperature displays on the NAV system can display in either Celsius or Fahrenheit, but I didn't dig any further to see how to change it. If you want to change yours, you may want to consult your owner's manual further or take it to a dealer and have then do it.

At least it appears that it CAN be changed back and forth..

  8. THe tire monitor is looking for the missing tire sensor. It knows the vehicle should have five, and since one is missing, it thinks its malfunctioning. Tire monitoring is a federal requirement. Even if you find a cheaper sensor, you still have to bring back to a Lexus dealer to have the new sensor registered.

Might a Toyota dealer do it for less?

I would definitely ask. They do everything else on my RX 350 for a lot less than the Lexus dealer. As an example, my car is due for the 15K mile service that Lexus quoted me $350+ to do. I'm having the exact same work done at Toyota for about $150 less..

  9. I happened to see a Tribecca in the rear view mirror while I was driving my RX350 this weekend. For a second, I thought that I saw the face of a giant metal grasshopper. Just an observation, I guess.

Are you sure it wasn't a giant grasshopper? Maybe you just thought it was a Suburu. You do know that in most states it is illegal to drink and drive, right?

  10. Just a little anecdotal evidence. I had a 2004 RX330 that was traded with near 80,000 miles on it. Never used anything but regular, never heard any pinging, no complaints about performance, no apparent damage. I now have a 2008 RX 350, only regular gas used in it for about the first 4,000 miles, same as above. I live in the great NE and we now have gasoline with 10% ethanol, all grades, no choice. I recently did two tests, using the MPG calculator on the dash. I realize that this readout may not give an absolutely correct MPG figure, but I think that comparison between MPG readings may be meaningful. The first test was done using regular gas with 10% ethanol and gas without ethanol. Ethanol containing gas was used to fill the tank so that the tank would be near empty after a 150 mile trip. The tank was refilled with gas without ethanol, and the 150 miles was reversed. The MPG readout was carefully observed during the trip, and the maximum MPG for each trip was recorded. I have been told that 10% ethanol will lower gas mileage as much as 2 MPG. Both legs of the trip yielded approx 24 MPG. Now as to test two. I have begun to use high test. Have been using it for the last 4 tank fulls. Today I repeated the same trip as in test one, using high test. Maximum MPG observed was 27.4. I was not able to detect any difference in performance during either test. I realize this is most certainly not an absolutely scientific testing regimen, but there may be a flash of facts here. My first thought is that 10% ethanol, at high, steady speed may not give a noticeable loss of MPG. Secondly, if high test gives a roughly 10% increase in MPG, and the difference between regular and high test is $.20 more than regular, at $3.60 a gallon for regular, you should save money by buying high test. I know, this is a sample of one, but it may have some validity. Thoughts anyone?

I won't argue with your testing regimen, or the results; but your results do make me feel much better using high test; especially at today's outrageous prices..

  11. I've just hit my 10K mile mark on my Rx350 and have scheduled an appointment at my dealer in northern NJ for an oil change. The quoted me $272 which includes tire rotation, brake inspection, oil & filter change. Is this comparable with other lexus dealers? They are picking up the car, leaving me a loaner car and will drop it off at my house when it's done - which is pretty nice but $272!! :o

    Thanks.

Do they throw in the jar of vasaline?? lol

to hell with vasaline, for 90~272$ it better come with a complementary !Removed!...LOL

I do the service @ toyota here in canada as well...1/3 the price, but no rental car or "free" interior vacuuming

Probably no 'free' croissants, coffee, lexus bottled water, 60" flat screen TV or car wash either... LOL

My RX 350 is coming up on being due for 15K mile service. Lexus dealership price - $385; Toyota dealership - $159 for the EXACT same work. Is this a no-brainer or what?

  12. Just took my Lexus in for a low tire light. They checked all the tires and ended up putting air in the spare tire. I have a feeling they reset the tire pressure light also. Bev

I wonder if we bring the car to the dealer with the tire pressure light on, they will fix it for me for free?

That will depend on the complexity of the problem, I'm sure.. They didn't charge me when they took care of mine; although the solution was simply to top off the tire pressures above the 30 psi threshold, so it took all of about 10 mins tops..

  13. The dealership I purchased my vehicle from quoted $90 for an oil change. I've always done my own oil changes and tire rotations in all my cars and motorcycles. I intend to do the same with my new Lexus. $90 is unreasonably high for a simple oil change and tire rotation. Besides, I trust myself more to inspect brakes and axle boots than a green service tech who doesn't know me from Adam.

Agree that $90 is WAY too much for an oil change and tire rotation; but what does your dealership charge for the "10K mile service", which in reality is not much more than an oil change and tire rotation. I'll bet they quote you a lot more than $90..

  14. Thank you for everybody's replies..

    they are very helpful.. :D

I dont mean to sound snotty but if anyone can't afford premium gas then they probably shouldn't buy a 42 thousand dollar vehicle.

However, in today's world, being 'able to afford' premium fuel is a relative concept; what with the way gas prices are going these days. It is predicted to top $4.00/gal for REGULAR in my area before the spring/summer driving season is over... OUCH!! :(
