  1. Don't take it to Lexus as they don't do the work themselves. They just send it to another autobody shop who gives them the best price.

Go to a few autobody shops in your area and ask to see some of their work. Tell them you want it done RIGHT and let them do it for you. There's no special "Lexus" paint either, shops just mix up your color using the paint code.

How bad is the damage? You may want to consider going through insurance.

Yes, Lexus outsources all of their body work. Shop around..

  3. Got a call from my Lexus dealer yesterday saying there is a recall for replacement of an oil line on my 2008 RX350.

They said it should only take about an hour to do.

Anyone else hear of this? Haven't made an appointment yet, but was wondering what the problem is.

Yes had it done recently. All your info is correct. Took about one hour, got it washed and was told the recall also included a full tank of gas.. Worth the hour wait!

    Hmmmmm, I didn't get the gas.. crybaby.gif

  4. Hi - I have a 2008 RX 350 and the only issue I have with it is that I can't seem to keep air from coming through center dash vents without turning on the air recirculator. I don't want fresh air and I don't want recirculated cabin air - is there a way to do this?

In the 'climate' screen on your nav you can turn off the fan altogether, which will prevent any air (recirc or otherwise) from coming through the vents.

  5. I need some advice for new tires for my LS460. The car came with Bridgestone Turanza EL42. They seem OK, but wear out too quickly. So, I have looked up what's available and narrowed down my choices to Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus and Continental ExtremeContact DWS. I was going to get Michelins, but noticed that TireRack rates Continentals a bit better. I'd appreciate learning about anyone's practical experience with these two tires. Bonus points if you had them on LS460.

    Many thanks!

Have you tried the LS460 board? I just put 4 Michelins on my RX350, and so far so good; but really too early to tell. The Michelins got great reviews, but the deciding factor for me was the $100 rebate at Discount Tire. smile.gif

  6. The Lexus dealer just gave me a quote for my 30K maintenance...$560. Yikes!

I'll be calling my Toyota Indie mechanic ASAP. He kept my 4Runner going for 206K miles!

    So much for the dealership...

Update...My Independent mechanic said he will charge $275. Deal.

Haven't looked at the list of items on the 30k maintenance...is it that extensive???

The 30K mile is one of the bigger ones, at which they do a few more things like replace the cabin air filter, etc., but $560 is still WAY too high even for the 30K. My 30K service at Toyota was uner $200 for the exact same work and parts.

  7. Yes, I believe they are factory tires, 6/32 remaining after 39,000 miles that were on a car from a three year lease.

They are NITTO NT850 PREMIUM 235/55/18 104R, so these are probably the OEM tires?

    Bill

I dont believe Nittos are a OEM tires for Lexus, amybe thats is the reason for the higher speed reading.

Yes, I believe Lexus current OEMs are either Michelin or Goodyear. My 08 came with the Goodyears, but I'm replacing them today with Michelins...$100 rebate for 4 tires at Discount Tire..rolleyes.gif

  8. I'm sitting in the dealer's waiting room for my free 5K oil change and tire rotation. After seeing this thread I decided to ask about future service and was told the following:

    10K, 20K, 25K, 35K, 40K, 50K and 55K are all $170

    15K and 45K are $312

    30K and 60K are $680

That's over $3,100 for standard service! Ouch!

Recommend taking it to a Toyota dealership for the same work at half the price.. :)

  9. The recall notice says that the defective part will be replaced with a 'newly designed' one, but the service advisor at my dealership was evasive when I asked him about the design details of the 'newly designed' part. He would not/could not confirm if the new part was in fact the all metal one or just another metal/rubber hose; which makes me a little uncomfortable to say the least.

Part Number 15772-31030 is the all metal pipe. You can order it at any Toyota dealer for $25.

Well that doesn't make me feel any better.. :( The part number listed on the recall repair invoice for my RX 350 is 04009-33131; 'Kit, Oil Hose, #1'. Anybody know what the part number is for the defective oil hose? <_<

  10. Had it done last week, and they had the car for about half the day. There is a lot of discussion on the web about the controversey of Lexus/Toyota using a 'band-aid' fix approach to this issue, i.e., replacing the defective hose with the same or similarly designed part, which just prolongs the issue until post warranty. Apparently the 'correct' fix is an all metal pipe instead of the metal/rubber one that fails. The all metal pipe is what new models are being fitted with now at the factory, so this reinforces the notion of it being the correct fix.

  11. I have my oil changed on my RX400h at a local Toyota dealership whenever I can and was told that the service information can be retrieved by Lexus dealerships. The Toyota dealership does the same service 5k, 10k, etc at a fraction of the cost of the Lexus dealership.

Completely agree, and I do the same. IMHO, there is no logical reason to take it to the Lexus dealership (except maybe for warranty work); unless you just like shelling out three times as much for the same work and parts.

Was in Houston the other day and thought well I'll just take it by the Lexus place and have the oil changed. Mistake almost $70. Usually go

to the toyota place. I dont need the car washed or a loaner. Sure they fiddle !art around with other things not needed to up the price.

Lost a customer for that as far as I'm concerned now.

The Toyota place where I take mine washes it after service too! :)

  12. passanger bag off- lights up,any body knows why??? Who knows how to reset? Thank you .And Happy New Year.

It will indicate 'off' or 'on' depending on the weight in the passenger seat. (Check Manual). Good luck!

If there is a passenger in the seat, it is supposed to light up indicating it is active; but if no passenger, it should not be on (malfunction).. If on with no passenger, I would take it to the dealer...possibly a warranty repair?

  13. Got the recall notice, called our lame dealer, they told me it’ll take about an hour….. and as usual their estimate was not even close… two and half hours later it was done… missed two other appointments because of their poor estimate.

Has anybody had good luck in selling one of these? My wife likes it and I hate it. Tried to trade it in a couple of times now (MB ML350/Acura MDX) both dealers offered very little for our RX on trade-in. Took it to the dealer we bought it from, they didn’t even want it.

However, on the bright side, we have a 2000 ES300 that runs perfect, no excessive engine noise, no wind noise on highway, no recalls and as a result, no intent to sell it. Seems Toyota is on the same path as GM. :(

I got my notice the other day, local dealer still doesn't have the parts. My notice says we have until March 2013 (more than 3 years) to get it done, so must not be that serious; but better to get it done sooner rather than later I guess...wouldn't want the defective part failing, and having to deal with that..

  14. I have a 07 RX350, is there a way to reset the tire pressure light, make it go away. I went to the place I bought the tires and they checked all including the spare and they are now at the correct psi.

Trying to save a trip to the dealership

There is a way to reset described in the manual, but the light should be 'out' if the tires and spare are at the proper psi.

I guess the tire place didn't check it right.

Did they replace the sensor assembly kit in the valve stems?

  15. If you read the manual, you will see that the space between the driver and passenger, that big spacious console space is used to store that 10lb. manual. Take out the box and it slides away tucked under everything.

I thought the 10 lb owner's manual went in the glove box, which is where mine is..

  16. The position for the microphone is in the same spot in the Rx400h, i agree it's a bad spot.

Some car makers put it in the steering wheel which i think is perfect.

Yeah, I never liked the VR microphone position. I sometimes find myself looking up (away from the road), trying to speak directly into the microphone when on the telephone, and others say that they can't hear me very well.. <_<

  17. Is anyone finding that the front seats of the '10 RX350 are very uncomfortable? There have been several posts on other forums regarding this and I'm not sure if I'm being overly sensitive. I don't recall my '05 330 being this stiff. Thanks in advance for any feedback...

we have an 07 and drove a 10 and said the same thing, the seats are bigger stiffer and longer in the bottom. Not good for small folks. I agree with your observation

There are so many ways to adjust the front seat positions, that I finally found a comfortable position, and I'm a 'small' guy. I made sure to memorize the position after I got it right..

  18. Just bought an rx350 that was supposed to have the backup camera which it does not. Can the dealer install this item or should I bargain for a reduction in price??

Our 2010 doesn't have "Nav" package but nevertheless has backup camera. I would ask for price reduction. Just as an aside... I decided against Nav system because a new fully loaded Garmin comes with Blue Tooth, Audio Player, newest maps, Traffic monitoring for life, rerouting, lifetime map upgrades $120, installed camera, Lane Assist, and plenty of other features plus it can be used on multiple vehicles or placed in pocket. No, it isn't as pretty as the built in system but seems like a better deal than paying 4 grand for one as the Garmin was only $369 or so online.

No 'clunky' Garmin after-market GPS system in my RX 350, and no, I didn't pay '4 grand' for it either. My Lexus nav system has all the features you noted for the Garmin..

  19. Being a three month owner of the 2010 (bought it for my wife) the following are areas we find have room for improvement:

    1. No integrated brake controller although we paid for a "towing package" upgrade. I've discussed this on another thread
    2. Flat 4 pin trailer towing electrical connector. No provision for standard 7 blade RV style connector. I've discussed this on another thread
    3. Location of 12V "Power Ports" and USB/AUX input in bottom of center console hidden under difficult to remove box and tray
    4. No external 12V Power Ports except the one in rear cargo area
    5. Box and tray in center console renders entire space practically useless
    6. Goofy void space in center console between driver and passenger legs- What the heck were "they" thinking?
    7. "Glove" box rendered almost useless due sectional interior design to hold 10 pound instruction manual - very little room left for anything else
    8. Where to store "extra" CDs or Jewel cases? See above
    9. Trip odometer very difficult to find intuitively
    10. No "ash" tray or other place to put gum, gum wrappers, etc

Mostly small issues I realize, but in my opinion each could be corrected or improved during next "re-design." Love the vehicle otherwise

You got it... entirely trivial issues, and those that most owners wouldn't even notice..
