  1. whoa since the main - traction battery is 660Volts i dont know how you think you can charge it = it is sealed against tampering by the owner == never try to fiddle with it - call your dealer !! But you did the right thing by charging the 12 Volt battery - it is very small and can be run down very quickly - twice i left the door ajar and it ran it down in a few hours -- i heard you can start the car with flashlight batteries since the 12 volts is only needed to start the computer - DUH good luck it is a fine car - i love my 2007
  2. hi - in order to comply with the warrenty i am forced to change oil and filter every 6 months - i drive 2000 miles a year - i have been going to the subaru dealer which is close to my house and they charge about 20 dollars - the lexus dealer charges 99 dollars - if you look in the maint manual it specifies 6 months for oil changes - it goes by time not mileage - i think it is worth it to comply in case there is any doubt that you have done the warrenty work - the subaru dealer keeps records of my service and i manually update my service details on the lexus owners site = i think it is worth the effort i have to go thru = my opinion
  3. i have a 2007 RX400h i can get 36-37 mpg if i really try - it is called " feathering " taking advantage of coasting and running on battery only - like the guy said - get up to speed then engage cruise control - set it then - go a litte faster with the gas pedal and let up so the cruse can maintain your speed- you will see the ICE = internal combustion engine , will then shut off and you will be running on battery only- this can happen at any speed - here is a disclaimer - in the city i like to really get on it - then i usually get 20-21 mpg - but look at the fun i am having - i think it's worth it - i run reg. gas as far as i can figure the hi test is iffy depending on the season . i think when it is hot out the premimum gets a little better mpg . i run regular year round - this is a great car and lots of fun to drive - richard
  4. i had a 1994 toyota with fuel injection until i bought my 2007 RX400h - in the 13 years i had the toyota i never had the injectors cleaned nor did i get any of the flushes they recommended -- guess what absolutely no problems = yes these are nice to do but i doubt if they are really needed - if you have too much money and want to go very first class then get it all done - these cars can go 200,000 miles with basic maintaince like oil changes etc. my final word is ------ if it ain't broke , dont fix it ------------ good luck - richard
  5. hi , i own a 2007 rx400h what a dream car - if i am careful i can get 36 mpg - but it is so much fun to drive i like to stomp on it and blow everything away - in my opinion the hybrid is the way to go !!!!!!!!! the CVT is a joy and really powerful i am 71 and this is a keeper car. so far i have only gotten oil changes - so the maintence is no more that a usual car. the battery is guarenteed for 8 years - so not to worry - i did buy the extended 7 year package just in case. this is the best car i ever owned - when gas goes back to 4 dollars you will be laughing. for me it is not about the money - it is about having the car i deserve and enjoy driving . richard
  6. nnnnnnnnnnnnnnoooooooooooo i have a 2007 rx400h and there is no delay that i can detect - looks like dealer time for you -- mine is AWD
  7. WHAT STRANGE SOUNDS ??????????????? my 2007 rx400h makes no strange sounds - perhaps it is the exhaust system cooling off - maybe a clamp is loose or too tight - can you be more specific ?
  8. i drive 90% in the city - getting 28 mpg - my last trip 30 miles round trip to a suburb on nice flat terrain i got 36.7 mpg this is with my 2007 RX400h the main reason for me buying the hybrid was it's trade in value - with the gas crunch this is a highly desired used car the 350 is a great car but it is not as good as the 400h - for me the money is not really such a big concideration as i have a lot of disposable income - apples to apples the 400h is the way to go richard
  9. please help -- the dealer showed me how to have the address show as i am driving along it displays the current location in a box at the bottom of the screen - it is actively displayed as i move along - it is not the display that you get when you push the map button - well i forgot how to get this to display - i think it has something to do with the range being set to 75 feet but i can only get it down to 150 feet - this is on my 2007 RX400h - thanks richard p.s. this is a special setting that reads out the addresses as you move along it is in a box at the bottom of the screen - not at the top - it is not displayed by the map button - it stays on the screen and moves address as you move
  10. on my 2007 rx400h if i hold the unlock button down it will open all the windows and the moonroof takes a few seconds to work just keep holding and by the time you get to your car most of the hot air will be gone ----- works great for me ---richard
  11. hi i was getting 24-26 mpg since new but now that i racked up 2000 miles - it took me a whole year to do it but the last time i went on a 50 mile trip - mixed city driving i got a whooping 36 mpg so i think the answer is wait and see. i bet you will be suprised give it time to break in the moving parts- i dont think it can remember your driving habits --
  12. hi on my last trip on city streets with my 2007 RX400h i got 33mpg it was a 52 mile trip to a neighboring county. i make this same trip about once a month. last time it was 32mpg. of course i babied it to see what i could do. normally i get 25-27 in the city cause i like to jump on it at the lights. what fun - this is a great car - had it a year -so far absolutly no problems. richard
  13. i have a 2007 rx400h i rareley am aware of the ice going on or off if it is a cold start i sometimes feel a very slight clunk almost never aware of it when driving slow or fast i think the dealer should let you test drive another one same as yours must be something that can be fixed
  14. that is the ICE starting up and or going off - keep an eye on it - it will probably get better in time
  15. hi all, i got my 2007 rx400h in april and it has not been in the salt yet - but it is coming soon. in cleveland ohio the salt can eat up a new car in 3-5 years - in the past i have gone with and without undercoating without = rusted brake lines and calipers - gas tank rusted out - etc. will undercoating void the warrenty ????? what is your advise and experience !!!!!!!
  16. this is absurd = your dealer must be small potatoes i am in cleveland and get instant service and loaner and pickup are all free and they are glad to see me - Metro Lexus can't do enough for me = includes free car wash anytime -interior and exterior vaccuming and window wash inside = all free anytime i go there
  17. hi sloop - i had a 2007 highlander for about 3 months - did not like the handling - too much rocking side to side so i traded it for a 2007 RX400h - a world of difference !! if you want true luxury get the Lexus - it does everthing better than the toyota - if money is a factor the highlander would be o.k. But i can afford the BEST = Lexus !!!!! why not take a test ride in both - at least for a weekend in both - a ride around the block is not a good test - my dealers are glad to give me 2-3 days of test driving - go for it !! richard
  18. hi Michael i have a 2007 rx400h i got it in april this year - so far i noticed that when the i.c.e. = gas motor shut off it feels like the suv rocks a bit - side to side. this only happened a few times - and usually when the motor is cold. what you are feeling is probably that.. it hasn't happened lately that i am aware of. keep after the dealer until you are satisfied!!! this could be something like a loose motor mount.. after all this is a Lexus and should be flawless !!! Richard
  19. Hi Richard The HyHi suffers from the same spongy ride as the Prius according to our neighbor. We both discovered the same cure. Junk the stinkin' stock Good Years. Once completed, his HyHi, and our Prius were cured. So it wasn't the cars after all. Our Michelins Energy's made the world of difference. I still can't believe how much tire chemestry makes the difference. mine came with the michelins - evidently the goodyears are the worst tires for this suv - i was forewarned about this
  20. hello mr. scientist last year i bought a 2007 subaru outback and it was great except for the wild handling = not so great so i traded it in on a 2007 toyota highlander the ride was jerky side to side so then i bought a 2007 lexus rx400h and guess what ? it is the best ride !!! no jerking no wild ride and plenty of power. almost all of my trips are in the city less than 5 miles - so far i am getting about 24-28 mpg - but who cares about gas - i feel like a king in the 400h it is a great car and does everything right !! so take your time and try them out - the toyotaHy is cheaper but will you feel the difference ?? good luck and after all it's not about the money or the gas - it is about what makes you happy.
