  1. I have a '08 RX400h and a '08 SC450h and I can use my bluetooth and iPhone 3G with both of them. it is important to get the latest updates to the iPhone though - there seem to be a lot of bugs in the bluetooth stack on the iPhone. I'll still occasionally run into problem on long calls. hanging up and redialing will fix them. I could never get beam the contacts to the cars, but that wasn't such a big deal to me so I didn't try very hard.
  2. I finally got my wipers to work right on my GS450h. What I did was get a piece of black electrical tape and put it right above the indentation in the glass that the sensor uses. This made them work exactly the way I'd want. I had to try a couple of different placements to get it to work the way I wanted. Before doing this, I'd have to manually flick the windshield wipers up to get the "Mist" action because it would get to the point where my choice was to force the wiper to clean the windshield, or drive in a very unsafe condition. With the tape, it is sensitive enough to catch the misting on the window right when it starts. I have not had any false positives.
  3. I think I have this "fixed"...I took some black electrical tape and tried to put it *over* the sensor. that made them come on more frequently, but still not working to my satisfaction. The then took that off and put some top right above the sensor (this is on the outside of the glass). Now they work perfectly. For the firt time twisting the knob actually changes the frequency of the swipe and when it sprinkles, the wipers actually come on. I have no idea how it works, but it does. anybody else out there that is having this problem should try it out and post their results!
  4. I was speaking meteorologically, not culturally! :-) they basically don't turn on when they should. the windshield gets so wet that I'm forced to do it manually. I recently took it in for service and then cleaned it "really good" and it worked better -- they actually would come on if I wanted past my comfort level but prior to my panic level (before I'd hit the panic stage of "OMG I CAN'T SEE". I'm now experimenting where to place some electrical tape near/on the sensor to fool the system into thinking it is always wet. If I put the tape on it, maybe it will think it is always very wet. Above it might act as a "dam", building up water near the sensor to get them to turn on. i'm hoping that the sensitivity will then control how frequently the blades swipe. btw, in the current configuration, I can tell no difference changing the sensitivity -- I assume this isn't what everybody else is running into.
  5. I'm also in Seattle (well Woodinville, but that's the same thing). I have both a RX400h and a GS450h, both with the rain sensing wipers and they are really, really bad. I've talked to the dealer about it and they said there is no way to fix it. My preference would be to go to non-sensing wipers, where the sensitivity selector is just how long to take between swipes. has anybody heard of anyway to make this work? thanks
  6. the sad truth is that it is both complicated and easy. compared to something like a TV, using a nav is complicated. compared to pretty much any other system out there, the Lexus nav is way, way better and more intuitive (at least to me). I recently test drove a Mercedes and I had to stop and go back in to get them to show me how to make the system work. When I had a new ES350 with bluetooth enabled I got my bluetooth phone working while I was stuck in traffic w/o having to do anything except guess what the logical next step was (starting with pushing the voice activation and saying "phone"). my perspective is admitedly a bit skewed -- I've been working at a major sw company for > 16 years...
  7. these also work great http://www.cartoys.com/Default.cfm/p/IR2CH...ess_Headphones/ (IR2CHS Audiovox Wireless Headphones)
  8. I forgot to ask my wife if they spot check the car. I doubt it for a car wash. I was hoping that there were others out there that experience something similar. I will see what happens today. dsmiles1 I took the car to the dealer and they first did not want to own up to any wrong doing. After about 20 minutes of discussion we all reached the conclusion that this was not a scratch but something on the surface of the car. They still did not want to own up to this happening under their watch. They buff the car and the mark disappear. One of the service guy suspect that this mark was caused by a marker used when the car was at the port. Boy am I happy. dsmiles1 I had something similar happen to my SC430. I took it in for service and when I picked it up I noticed a scratch on the bumper. I went and got the service manager who looked at it and said "looks new, we'll take care of it." They got me another loaner car, I took off and they fixed my bumper. This is why I buy a Lexus. Hopefully the fact that I have bought 4 new Lexus' from them (LS400, LS430, SC430, and GX470) doesn't make them treat me any differently than anybody else.
  9. I took my SC430 in for service and notices that the bumper had a little rip in it (the paint was scratched down to the rubber). I told the service rep that it was a new scratch. He brought out the service manager who said "yep, new scratch" and said they'd fix it now, or the next time I brought it in for service. I said now, they arranged for a loaner car (a new RX330) and I was on my way. I'd say it was "perfect" customer service (everybody makes mistakes - you are defined by how you deal with them). Joe
  10. yes 3 of them. I also made them check the full size spare (they had forgotten) I was pleasantly suprised that they didn't give me any trouble over it, and replaced them with a "sorry it took so long". I wonder if it has anythign to do with the fact that this is the second of 3 Lexus' I've bought there? :)
  11. I have a 2001 LS430 with 17" chrome tires. I've had trouble with the ride since I got the car -- about 100 miles into it, I took it back to get the tires balanced (I had a LS400 prior to this, so I knew what to expect). I've done balancing 4 or 5 times and had it aligned. Recently I just got new tires on it (Michelin MXV4+) After installing the tires, the tech (at Costco) told me that 3 of the wheels were out of round, making it impossible to balance the tires. I took it back to Lexus and they checked it. Sure enough, 3 bad wheels. The dealer said that this can happen early in the model run on chrome wheels. They replaced the 3 wheels under warranty and the car now runs like I would expect a Lexus to run. Joe
