  1. you guys still haven't answered how often you wax the vehicles. unwaxed paint on any vehicle will fade. like Jim said... red will go faster than other colors but paint, like leather, needs to be cared for.

Mine get waxed about every 6 to 8 months and the paint looks great.

  2. 2000 LX470 116,500 miles, kept under cover. I have terrible paint fade on both the hood and the upper rear tailgate. Has/does anyone else had/have this problem? Thanks.

Nope, quite the opposite. My '98 LX and '99 Land Cruiser's paint still looks new. Maybe if it's under a cover a lot, you've got some oxidation? Find a good detailer and see if they can buff it out.

  3. Hi. Guys, I have been wondering for a while when Lexus will bring a newer version for the LX470. It's high time they do. It's been a while this model has been out. Same goes for the Land Cruiser but I do love both of them.

    Thank you.

    Khuda Hafiz.

I just got off the phone from Lexus Annapolis and was told that there would be virtually no change to the LX470 for the next two years.Except maybe a tailight.

There is a new Land cruiser coming out. I don't know if it is in addition to the current one, or a separate version. it is modelled after the old ones with the whilte roofs/

You're referring to the FJ Cruiser. It's Toyota's new retro vehicle that they claim is based on Land Cruiser heritage. It's more based on competing with the Nissan Xterra. It's built on the 4Runner platform (which is the Land Cruiser Prado platform, which the GX uses as well). I like it, looks pretty cool.

  4. When I purchased my LX470 I liked the look of the rear spoiler but did not want to part with $2500 to purchase the Night Vision / Spoiler package. I figured that I could do without it at that time. However, after owning the LX for one year I have become annoyed at how easily the rear window builds up road "dust" - as after getting a wash and doing three days of minimal highway commute driving the rear windows builds up an obvious film of dust.

Those of you who have the rear wind deflector on your LX's / LC's do you find your rear window becoming dirty easily? - or, besides for looks, is this what the deflector is actually intended for - to keep the rear window clean? And, if so, does it work?

Besides the dealer and ebay, does anyone have suggestions as to where I can find a good deal on an OEM spoiler?

ALSO - Has anyone come across pricing for the new 06 LED tailamp units and front grill assembly. I inqured at my dealership today and parts had no clue. Thanks!

Yes, it does keep the rear window clean. My wifes LX (UZJ100) doesn't have the spoiler and my Toyota UZJ100 has it. My window stays cleaner much, much longer than hers.

  5. adjustable suspension and cd player. The cd player had a habit of jamiing on those and the suspension also should be checked. Turn the car on and close the doors, with the car in park put the height to high and raises. Then drive over 5 mph and it should automatically drop  to neutral. There is alot more to check as well. Take it to a local Lexus dealer.

Actually, the speed at which the suspension will go back to neutral is around 15-18 MPH. Take a look at the fluid for the hight control to see if it has been contaminated. The resevoir is located in the engine compartment forward of the passenger seat. I've heard reports of people mistaking this for a washer fluid resevoir and pouring wiper fluid into it. The vehicle should be in good condition at that mileage, the 90k service will be due soon. Depending on who you have do it, it will run around $1-2K. If it were me, I would check with Lexus to see if you can get any maintenance records, Lexus keeps them for all vehicles regardless of which dealer did the service. This will give you an indication of how well it was maintained.

  6. I assume you talking about replacing the lights inside the tailgate, not on the outer rear quarter panels. After you lower the gate, use a flat head screwdriver wrapped in masking tape (to prevent scratches) and pry a little at a time so you can see where the clips are. After you pop the first clip with the screwdriver, use your fingers and the screwdriver to pop the rest. Just make sure that you pry as close as possible to each clip to prevent damaging the panel. It comes off very easily.

  7. Hi,

    I had a 1997 LX450 that I loved.

The vehicle was totaled  and I bought another 1997 LX450.

My question is this: The latest 1997 LX 450 has a switch to the left of the steering wheel on the dash that says differential switch.

My other 1997 did not have this switch on the dashboard.

The latest vehicle did not have the owners manual with it .I checked on line and it seems the only options you could get in 1997 was the sunroof and the running boards, trailer package etc which this vehicles has.

    Was this differential an option??

How does this vehicle differ from the other 1997 LX 450 I owned?

    All help is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Vin P

  8. This might b stupid...but how do I make sure this is not on/engaged?

The CDL switch is located to the left of the climate controls. It looks like the wheels, two axles and drive shafts. If it's engaged, you would see a matching light on the bottom of your instrument panel. The CDL locks the transfer case and sends equal power to front differential and the rear differential.

  9. I have a 2000 LX 470 with about 45,000 miles on it...

Recently, I noticced that during acceleration I am hearing a whining noise coming from the front of the car (Sounds like the engine/trans area)

The noise gets a bit louder as the car increases in speed, but stops during coasting...Only hear it when accelerating.

    Any ideas?

It could be the compressor. Try turning the A/C off, if the noise is still there then it's no that. That's my first guess.

  10. Find a spreadsheet (I use Excel) and paste the following in cell 'D':

    =(((A1*(B1/100))*2)/25.4)+C1

In cell A insert the width of the tire (e.g. 275)

In cell B insert the aspect ratio (e.g. 70)

In cell C insert the rim diameter (e.g. 16)

Cell D will display the tire height in inches. Play with the values in cells A and B while increasing the rim diameter in cell C. If you want the speedometer to not be affected by tire size, you need to remain as close to stock as possible.

Or...you can just skip all the math and get a Truespeed calibrator to reset your speedometer.

    Dougjohn,

Coolness!!!! This is the rosetta stone of tire size. I've alway wondered how that worked. So then, on my '99 I have 265/75 16's which based on the math means a 32" tire? If I want a wider tire but not a taller tire, I can just juggle the ratio's and make sure I still end up with a 32" tire, right?

    Thanks!

  11. Im not sure about affecting the speedometer by having bigger n wider tires. But im pretty sure it is. Because right now i have 23 x 10.5 with 305/35/23 on my 450

    and while my 470 runnin 24 x 11 with 305/30/24 usin Pirelli Asimmetrico P-Zero.

I used to have "20 rims on my450 and i noticed that since i got the "23 seems when i drive the car little heavier~(Disadvantage)

While the advantage to have big rims and wider tires is by having bigger rims and less rubber means less friction and also u can feel the car more rigid to the ground

affect the car handling, so far here in so cal freeway after i dropped the LX "4 inch

to the ground i can go for 85mph on the 60 degree curve and the LX just stayed on the ground.

But my opinion changin bigger rims and wider tires wont feel much good as compare to the stock factory, ull lose the comfyness ,fuel economy unless if u tired of the look and want to look different then i have no word for it.

 Oh, now I get it. :chairshot:

  12. I really can't see Lexus changing the LX470 to a Sequioa based platform for a number of reasons.

First, Toyota and Lexus has no trouble whatsoever selling the Land Cruiser and Lx470 all over the world. It is not like these trucks don't sell in various parts of the world.

Seocnd, even though Toyota does not sell as many Land Cruisers as Sequioa they still do sell them effeciently in America. The Sequioa is a different vehicle designed for American people especially mom's and families. The Land Cruiser is a niche vehicle which is sold to dedicated Land Crusier lovers.

Third, the only Lexus that is not built in Japan is the RX330 which is built in Ontario Canada. Lexus builds the LX470 in Japan all with the GX470, 4Runner and Land Crusider. The Sequioa is built off the Tundra platform and is built in the US for American people that is why it is larger than the Cruiser and LX470.

This is my opinion on the whole deal.

Unfortunately, this is a quote from MotorTrend.com

"...2006 Lexus VX 470: Replacing the Land Cruiser twin LX 470 is a luxury version of the larger Sequoia."

So, I guess the 2005 is safe for now.
