  1. If your CEL is on for bad o2 sensors then you will not get good gas mileage, but I would not replace them if your car doesn't have CEL.

It could be many things that your car doesn't get good gas mileage such as dirty air filter, bad spark plugs, etc...

  2. 02 sensor needs to be replaced. Make sure you get the Denso's and not Bosch. They aren't to hard to replace. Costs around 60 bucks. Alot more if you have a tech do it for you.

Please tell me which one is 02 sensor. Thank you for all the help.

  3. My 01 IS300 CEL came on couple of weeks ago code P0430 Catalyst Eff. below threshold Bank 2.

We thought it was the Catalytic so replaced it but after 300 miles or so same code came back on.

Any help will be appreciated. Thanx.

  4. CUMan,

I really appreciated all your help.

Actually I want to replace one of my needles because it only lits up half and half of it is dark. I have 2 extra clusters so I will remove the good needle from one and replace the bad one on the other.

And you are right on, I'm also trying to get rid of the sticking problems of my tach and odometer problems.

    Thanks.

  5. The tachometer problem is not usually associated with the bad capacitors. Also, it seems to be common for both the tachometer and the speedometer to exhibit the same problem. Namely, they are slow to move off zero when the weather is hot.

The sticking tachometer and speedometer needles are caused by a lubricant which is on the stops where the needles rest at zero. This lubricant apparently liquifies when the weather gets hot and creates a vaccum between the needles and the stops. This prevents the needles from moving temporarily. You can usually get them to move by rapping on the dash above the needles.

The fix is to remove this lubricant from the needles and the stops. A Q-tip with a bit of solvent on it (window cleaner, perhaps) would likely do the job.

My 93 has the same problem. I just haven't got around to fixing it. My dash does get rapped on a lot.

Hello CUMan, Do you have instructions how to clean the lubricant from the needles, removal the glass panel of the cluster? Thank you very much.

  6. I got these problems on my 95 LS400 sometime the odometer and tach meter don't operate, I have to bang the dash on top of the instrument cluster a few times and then they would work. I think there is something that has to do with the electrical such as relay etc.. because I have tried with 3 different instrument clusters and they all have the same problems. Anyone has any ideas ???

  7. Yes, it is common, but quite honestly, it is on most any car that is 14 years old. Just one of those things that simply wears out over time. One way to help it though is to clean the power steering solenoid screen and flush the system. This will siginificantly improve the steering effort "one finger steering" and reduce the pressure of the system. Do some searches on here for power steering leaks, solenoid, etc, and you'll find several posts on how to remove and clean that solenoid. It's the little cylinder shaped attachment to the rack by the driver's side front wheel of the rack. It has to wires going into it, with a black rubber cap. It's the opposite of righty-tighty, lefty-loosey when you try to take it off.

Will do, thank you very much.

  8. I consistently get 26.8 mpg on the highway driving 70-80 mph in my 1997 LS400 170k miles when traveling from Middle to West Tennessee. 200 miles each way.

I hope your Middle Tenn. cover the point spread today... tooo.
