My 96 LS400 had the same problem for over a year. Of course I couldn't figure it out until I started checking this forum. It broke at exactly the same point, the accordian part of the tube. Other than the noise the worst part was at idle there was exhaust coming into the passenger compartment. I removed the tube, bent it over in a vise and reinstalled it. Car runs fine, I'll see what happens with the emissions inspection next year. Thanks for the incredibly helpful tips and diagnosis! I forgot how quiet that car can be. :D

I just saw this on ebay for the 2 book set for a 95 LS 400 manuals - I have a 96 and there are very few differences between the two years. I remember VMF posting complete step by step instructions on how to replace the timing belt on the early LS400 models. Is that still on the forum somewhere? It was a really good tutorial. Thanks

I just ordered tune up parts from WWW.OEMWHOLESALE.COM. They were a little cheaper than lexus-parts.com. The order is due later this week so I'll let you know on their reliability/service. Also for spark plugs the best deal I found for NGK plugs was from www.clubplug.net - Original replacement Laser Platinum NGK-BKR6EP-11(2978) : for my model were : 8.69 each - free shipping on orders over $69 Also if you're looking for the authorized dealer's service manual I found the least expensive place to be www.lexustoyotamitsubishiparts.com - they're a Lexus dealer out of Michigan - A 96 LS 400 manual was $111.

Does anyone know where I can get a factory service manual for less than $110? I have the Mitchell CDs but they don't even cover tune-ups and are not very thorough.
