  1. I was wondering if a 1992 ES 300 engine was that of a non-interference engine meaning that should the timing belt break, the pistons wont crash into the cylinder walls.
  2. I had the same problem. As it turned out, it was the Air Intake Tubing. The engine wasn't getting enough air. 92 ES 300 134K mi. Gasoline shouldn't be the problem at all because my car's been using it since the day it was bought and its over 14 years old.
  3. Ahh I see. Now I just have to figure out what could the kicking when I shift. Any suggestions on how I could fix this throttle thing?
  4. I recently had my air intake manifold tube or hose replaced because the engine was not getting enough air. Now everything works fine but theres a slight problem....when in the parking gear, the RPMs jump all the way to 2K. I was wondering if this was normal or theres a problem with my idle and it needs to be recalibrated. I also noticed that ever since I had the air intake replaced every time I shift from Parking to Reverse the entire car jolts as if it doesnt want to shift or has problems doing so. This did not happend before the replacement and I'm a little concerned about this because I don't know if it could lead to very serious tranny problems or not. Any suggestions are welcomed.
  5. Thats a bit harsh I would say. What mainstream shops would you guys recommend for me? Or if you're in the Orlando area, do you know any good shops around? I really need to get my car fixed as soon as possible and I want good quality service at an affordable price.
  6. Ya know? I have somewhat of the same problem only I need a little extra done to the car. Things such as new struts (all 4) sway bar link, the bushings, a knock sensor, knock sensor harness, tie rods, air intake manifold (I went to Pep Boys complaining about how my car ['92 ES 300] stalls or even shuts off completely when I'm in D, P, and sometimes R). They gave me a price estimate of about 800-1200 and I was wondering if this was a little too much or a bargain! My biggest concern, however, is what is causing my car to shut off at stops?!?!? I had gone to several places and they told me that the engine isn't getting enough air so it shuts down. Also, when I'm at redlights (and the car doesnt shut off or seem to stall) the RPM's seem to jump from 1000 to about 100 and then back to 1000 several times. How would you guys rate Pep Boys' service? Have any of you had any complaints by them? I know I can't go wrong at a dealer but I also know that I'll be paying much, much more, so thats why I'm asking.
  7. I had recently heard that installation of an air intake for a 1992 ES was especially hard becuase of the way the stock one positoined. I was wondering if this is true or not and if so, how hard is it to install?
  8. '92 ES 300, again. lol. I was curious as to how I could get new seats for my car. They're over 14 years old, and of course, they're ripping appart. Not by much, but it certainly will get worse over time. I'm just wondering if anyone could suggest the prices of two new front seats (leather) or even a website where I could order them from. And if you're in the Central Florida area, perhaps somewhere where the job could be done. Would a Lexus dealer help me out with this as well? thank you in advance.
  9. I was wondering what KNOCK SENSORS are and how much would they cost for a '92 ES 300 and whether or not they're an important par of the car. Are they?
  10. I was just curious as to how to remove the cluster from an 1992 ES 300. I know that in some models, all you have to do is pull hard near the dimmer (as its held by clips, not screws...) and out it goes. What im not so sure about is if its the same for an ES. any suggestion?
  11. I was just curious if Lextech.org sold 1992 ES 300 gauge clusters. Well, do they?
  12. ok, lets forget after-market things nad back to lextech.org. do i send the cluster in or can i buy a new cluster from them and install it myself? and if you say its not that hard then i shouldt have any problems correct?
  13. Oh...well, i didnt know that. or anything when it comes to that matter. ok well, i dont even really know how to take the pannel out and even if i could take it then what would i do when it comes to wanting to change the panel from like... stock to an after-market kind?
  14. ok, so i order new needles or cluster...and its basically a do-it-yourself job. where do i learn to put it in or together? im like.. a motorcycle person so like i really dont know anything about cars exepct how to run them. any tips? also, i was wondering if the new needles come with instructions on how to put them together.... THANK YOU IN ADVANCE.
  15. any help? anyone? i know its difficult to respond to my problem but AT LEAST ANY suggestions like how much its going to cost me to fix the cluster...the little red glow, i mean.
  16. I have a 1992 ES 300 with 13100 miles and I've just recently found out that as soon as I turn the car on from both a cold start and a warm start, there's a light coloured smoke comming from the exhaust. The weird thing is that the smoke comes out only when you turn it on but I don't see it when im driving. Another problem I'm having is when I have the car on Drive or on Parking...maybe Reverse as well, the engine seems to be sputtering as if it were going to shut down at any moment. Also, how much would one expect to pay to fix the electroluminescent gauges? Mine don't light up.
