  1. Although I realize the autheticity (or lack thereof) of Wikipedia, there's just such a wealth of information to be found here! If you're looking for the long and hard version of the difference between "RON" and octane, look here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Octane_rating
  2. We've had it here for a while now I think. Again though, I never noticed a difference, although it probably means that it is a long term difference. Shell has been know to produce high quality gasoline.
  3. In other words, Shayan, you don't need to use that "Premium, ultra, super", whatever, lol. I think we can all agree on this. Again, save your money.
  4. Lol, over here in the gunshine state we have 87, 93, and 97. I had no idea it varied by state or emission laws, if it does.
  5. I think 89-97 octane is for super sports cars or a waste of money otherwise. Unless you own a Ferrari, Acura NSX, Aston Martin, then you need'nt worry about what kind of octane you use. Gasoline is gasoline and it still burns and makes your car go regardless! Besides, an old '92 with high milage? You wouldn't notice a difference if it hit you in the face. I used to drive a 1998 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 (before the insurance costs drove me close to suicide) and it was strictly recomended that I use 97 "premium" until the costs of that killed me too, so out of the better judgement of the manuals I switched to 87 "regular". I never noticed a difference in HP or milage (16/18). Save your money.
  6. After I had spent close to $3000 on my car I thought it would run great for a while. It turned out that when I was backing up in reverse the transmission seemed to die, read my previous post, lol. I could be looking at alot more to spend on my car. It just sits in my garage now...no transportation to anywhere, school or otherwise, it just sits there, collecting dust for the moment until I decide with what I'll do with it. Currently I'm transcending back to my original love of motorcycles. I figure that a new bike would cost as much as a new transmission (or at least a downpayment for the bike), and I could be bennefitting greatly from the use of bikes such as better gas milage, for example. However, this doesn't stray me from the fact that my next car will without a doubt be a Lexus. If you're looking for engines, search here: http://www.asapmotors.com/jdm-engines-lexus-c-219_230.html They have everything you need. Go around local shops and ask for their rates. Installing the engine will not be cheap.
  7. LOL, Thats sooo true! I see it all the time. I know I own an ES 300 when I tell people I drive a Lexus and they give me an impressed look (as I'm 19, you don't see many people my age driving Lexus). They never ask about the age of the car although I often get this reaction:
  8. You can buy the air intake tubing off of the internet, install it yourself and save yourself a good 400-600 dollars (what I paid to have mine replaced). Or you could have it taken to a shop and they'll do it for you for the 400-600 dollars. Usually when its the air intake tubing it just means that its either loose or there are a few cracks in the actual tubing. This could result in loss of air to the engine thus causing your "stalling". I'm not too sure about this, but thats what my mechanic told me. I also found some of this out through the website; it seems alot of people have the same problem or something similar to it. Good luck!
  9. Here in good ol' Florida its a 50/50 state as far as I know, I've only been in one wreck. Anyway, that guy that made the illegal turn got a nice ticket, probably some time, or a huge fine, which ever of those he got or will get. When I got into my accident, which was clearly NOT my fault, the cops didn't give the girl a ticket or anything! All we did was exchange info. and call it a night. Needless to say I got a nice check from her insurance company becuase I complained that she didn't get a ticket and I threatened to sue if they gave me anything less than the market value of my car (Mazda 626). The irony is that she ended up getting the same car I had ;) My condolences to his wife and daughter, but that guy had alot of priors. He should do time.
  10. damn, that sucks. How did it happen?
  11. most likely your air intake. I had something of a similar problem.
  12. Were it a torque converter, how much is that estimated to cost for a car of its age?
  13. Sorry, but it seems as if this thread is moving out of topic. I just want to know what could possibly be wrong with my transmission. I don't know where to get one much less install one! I heard that 93-97 transmissions are different than 92-early 93. I'm not sure as to the accuracy about this though, So if anyone could point me in the right direction as to where I could find a transmission, any parts for transmissions (auto), engine, or anything that would certainly help me with this, I would greatly appreciate it.
  14. I was thinking it would be the shifter linkage. I had a 300GT and something similar happend and as it turned out, it was the torque converter. I had it fixed and sold the car. I spoke to some people about it and they said that it could only be the shift cable because the car made no noise or anything! Just, nothing. It was really strange. Also, if it is, and most like is, the shifter cable, how much would you predict as far as costs go to fix it?
  15. Its a '92 and I don't service the transmission often, if at all. I check the fluid color every once in a while to make sure everything becuase as far as I know, transmissions fail becuase of the fluid. The car only has 145,000 miles. Personally, I dont think that kind of milage isnt too bad for a car that old...
  16. Well, I was reversing into my driveway when all of a sudden I feel the car jerk and the car starts going forward. Obviously from the gravity. The RPMs fly through the roof becuase I'm stepping on the gas. Then I try to put the gear into Drive and still nothing. I try 2nd and Low. Nothing. This is a really BAD problem, I'm guessing. ANY HELP WHATSOEVER WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!! This just happened a few minutes ago and I have NO IDEA what to do or what happened! I need the car to drive to school :( I'm 19 and what I know about cars is strictly limited, so please help!
  17. I'm sorry, but I just couldn't resist! I think the ES looks really nice like this, especially at night. It has a very attractive front. This is what most of your ES' look like at night: its nice isnt it?
  18. thing is that he just bought himself an LS460. I have yet to see it becuase he lives in Tampa.
  19. I usually hang out in the ES threads becuase...I own an ES, lol. Anyway, I'm very proud of this 91 LS that my cousin is giving me as a graduation present. It only has about 180,000 miles and is extremely well maintained. He bought this car brand new in 91 and now he's giving it to me! It has a JL Audio system with a W7 sub. This is such a beautiful car, omg, I love it! I feel like a stupid teen girl who just got a New Bettle for her 16th birthday or something...
  20. Exactly how do you calculate the CD? Wouldn't you need a wind tunnel and a bunch of sensors for something like that??
  21. Thats incredible. I had no idea semi-trucks could achieve a CD anywhere near .5! You learn something new every day. '92-'97 saw a substantial drop in the CD, which is exactly what I was looking for becuase I'm planning on getting an '01 ES, and which also explains yet another reason why I get such bad gas milage on my '92. Thanks for the frontal cross-section tip as well.
  22. OMG that car is so hot, but I don't think it doens't even come anywhere close the new LS.
  23. I was wondering if anyone knew the coefficient of drag for an old '92 ES in comparison to an 01' ES and an '06 ES 330. I can't seem to find this information on the net.
