  1. Nip rust in the bud... The sooner the better.
  2. My other car an acura (beat up integra, but runs like a top) needed ac service last month. Dealer fixed a leak and recharged with R12 for $214. It was soooo worth it. AC is ice cold now.
  3. Thanks again Micah. I will go ahead and throw in the new plugs/wires/distributor tonight and let them do the others. That is not too bad. Hows it going down there? I traveled to NO shortly after Katrina to assess the structural damage with a group of architects. The governor got us into restricted areas that were just wiped out. Really makes you count your blessings. Thanks again for the info - D
  4. Taking my new toy into the dealership for 100,000 mile service (bought sc4 w/107,000 and all services performed by Lindsay Lexus in VA but not the 100K - Damn!!!). The Service tech said they will check her out and call in case the bill would be high like 2 grand. I have had 100K services on other cars and I was expecting $2K or so. What does the 100K service include and how much typically for a dealr to do it?
  5. Thank you Micah. One suggestion was I am running it on economy and not power mode. I'll give that a try this weekend.
  6. Picked up a SC4 and I am having a blast fixing her up. Minor issues I have not dealt with yet are both door panels have split dead center on top. They are identical and appears this might be a flaw in the design of the support. Funny thing is I have been looking at SC4's fo six months and I never noticed this before. Records check showed it spent her first year in TX. Maybe the sun did it. #1. Are the any vinyl repair kits that are worth a damn? I repaired furniture in my early years and could match if they really worked. Secondly, the automatic shift button is broken but still works. I tracked down the original owner with the intent on getting history of the car, spare keys, etc. I logged into Lexus service database and know it has all the recommended service up to but not including 100,000. It has 107,000 and I suspect this is why it was given up as wholesale. I am curiuos how the button was broken. #2. How easy a fix is replacing the automatic shift button? Every SC4 I have driven does not shift smoothly off the line. They seem to be fine on the upper end and do not clunk down gearing. #3. Are auto SC4's inherently rough shifters in low gear starting out? Is there a fix?
  7. I left my Acura at the lot to take the SC4 to my insurance today. My girlfriend drove down 95 with me to drive the Lex back with me in the Acura. I still love my Integra (very reliable) but she was left in the dust. I thought I was being slick asking her and not one of my buds, but I was wrong. Said opening her up and feeling the power she stated it was better than s*x. Anybody need a slightly used girlfriend???
  8. Damn these are fast. I can't wait to start playing. PS. Not that it is the reason for my getting her but... The females really seem to go for this car! :whistles:
  9. I have been looking for my car to come along for six months now. I must have looked at 50 cars (all SC400). This morning as usual I did my local search and hit a wholesaler with one about fifty miles away. I bought her on the spot!!! Minor interior issues are all I have to worry about - Automatic shift button is cracked, parking brake cover worn, normal driver seat wear though not bad, stitching loose on passenger seat and rearview mirrors are sun damaged (first year spent in TX according to Carfax. I am going to enjoy fixing her up this summer. The only problem I forsee is keeping the speed down. My other car is an Integra that is nice but has no top end. Struggles at 70/cries at 80. Driving my new car back I was doing 100 with knowing it. What is the top end of these cars?
  10. I looked at a 92 SC400 this sunday that was in fair condition for 108,000 miles. The owner stated that the surpentine belt was replaced at 100,000 maintenance but the power steering was leaking (fluid on top of cap) and the typical squeeling was audible when I test drove it. The owner stated all that was needed is a replacement cap for $30. He seemed honest but I find that hard to swallow. I notice the PS pump tends to go out at about 100,000. How much for a fix should I expect? Could the cap fail? I myself would have replaced it before putting it up for sale.
