  1. My wife purchased a 2010 RX350 (28K miles) in January of this year still wearing the stock Dunlop tires. While the OEM tires had some tread to play with, she wanted the confidence of new rubber. I bought a set of 235/55R19 Pirelli Scorpion Verde All Season from Tire Rack. I've been a Michelin fan in the past, but I'm glad we switched to these GB-manufactured Pirellis.
  2. My wife is enjoying her pre-owned ("used" to laymen like me) 2010 RX350 FWD. We bought hers in January 2013 with 28,000 documented miles on it. Her experience as the original owner of a 2000 RX300 FWD (200K plus miles) gave us confidence to go with a used model, but I only considered offerings still under factory warranty. I just like the added assurance some remaining factory warranty offered, and I found several available (AWD and FWD) in my neck of the woods. While I don't know of any vehicle that will run forever, I'm a fan of the Lexus product and am confident regular maintenance will keep it going for many years to come. Good luck in your search.
  3. I'm also considering removal of the roof rack rails on my wife's 2010 RX350, acquired Jan '13. We never used the roof rack on the 2000 RX300 she put 200K plus miles on, and my acquisition of a pickup truck makes it improbable a roof rack will be needed. I found the Lexus Roof Rack Removal Kit online for under $100: 4 Inner Rack Roof Retainers 2 Left Side Roof Moldings 2 Right Side Roof Moldings 8 Mounting bolts Once my wife agrees, I'll make the change and put the rails up for sale.
  4. Just bought a 2010 RX350 (FWD) that the prior (2nd) owner thought might be equipped with RES. We followed the operating instructions without success, so I assumed the RES was not installed. It isn't a big thing for my wife here in Florida, but I'd like to see if the vehicle really has the system. There is an RES sticker under the hood and related manual with other manuals. Without pulling the glove box out to look for the module, is there a quick way to check for RES installation? I'll give Lexus a call, but I thought some sharp-minded owners already knew the answer. Thanks. Update: My inquiry to "Lexus Customer Satisfaction" (i.e., customer service) took eight days for turnaround. They researched the VIN and confirmed the RES was indeed installed at the port. I'll add the RES to a couple of other items to be checked under warranty.
  5. Thanks for the replies. I bought a 2010 model with 27K miles and remaining factory warranty. My wife had her choice of new or used, Lexus or other make, and she decided to go with a pre-owned (love that marketing label) Lexus. While I'm an average male price-negotiating caveman, she is an experienced negotiator...and it showed. I did most of the work on her 2000 RX300, so I'll see what maintenance I can do for her new-to-her ride.
  6. My wife's 2000 RX300 has served her well, but it's time for an update. While I bought her car new (via a short-lived internet company), she leans toward getting a nice conditioned used model. I’m looking at the 2010-2012 model years due to the powertrain changes. I’d appreciate any constructive inputs from 2010-2012 owners.
  7. Lots of time has passed since your post, so I assume you replaced your gas cap. If not, the following extract from '99 repair manual might help: "Possible causes are: * Faulty vapor pressure sensor. * Fuel tank cap installed incorrectly. * Fuel tank cap defective. * Damaged, disconnected or blocked vacuum hose. * Fuel tank damaged. * Charcoal canister damaged. * Hose between fuel tank and charcoal canister damaged." I just replaced the original cap on my wife's 12-year-old RX...less than $7 for a Motorad version.
