  1. has anyone did a test on a 300 or 330 for speed and performance? I have read test in some magazines, but just your basic reviews, I know the 300/330 is not a race car, I had my 04 330 up to 100mph and was super smooth with 23000 miles on Dunlop 5000's. In Michigan you can't do that very long, roads are crap and I don't need a big ticket. Love to take it on big speedway like M.I.S. Just wondering. thanks

  2. Proud new (to me) owner of 05 ES330. The car needs tires. The local Discount Tire store recommends the YK520, which of course only they sell. I was wondering if anyone here had any long time experience with this tire. In order of importance, wet handling in wind is first, smooth ride and quiet would be second and tread life would be third. I did notice reading past posts that one member had 6000 miles on a set, hopefully someone has some longer experience to share.

Thank you for any input, what a great sight this is.

Excellent tires buy them with the damage warranty coverage and they are great having replaced yokohama avid V4s due to em wearing out after 20K discount tires are awesome

carlexes330, how many miles do you have on your YK520 tires? Are they still quiet? Quiet seems to be the sore spot for the Avid V4S with Lexus owners in the survey of higher mileage users at TireRack. I never expect a tire to stay quiet for full warranty period but it would be nice if they stayed quiet for half of warranteed tread life.

    thanks,

    michael

I have 20K on the tires and they are still quiet and not even partially worn

I tried yokohama Avid V4s and they lasted 18K i changed them for YK520s and 20K later they are still like new no visible wear and plenty of tred left ;)

  4. I am ready to purchase new tires for my '05 ES330. It is a tier2 car. At the tire store yesterday the person told me my Toyo tires were NOT an original tire for that car. He told me "no way" did that car come from the factory with Toyo tires on it. I am now left wondering if the dealer did a quick change on the tires and replaced them with a cheaper tire allowing him to keep the originals for resale. I have reviewed the original sticker from the car and it does not mention tire brand. It simply says "17" Summer Tires with Alloy Wheels" $80. Any thoughts?
original tires for 05 were toyos POS i chnged em at 9K worn out POS change em now for Yokohama YK 520s they are the best for the price and with 65K warranty you cant go wrong

I'd go for the Yokohama V4S over the YK's personally. The all season that came standard on my 05 is the Bridgestone Turanza EL42's......about on par with the Bridgestone RE92's......which is complete garbage in anything but dry road conditions.

I had the v4s and with the 65K warranty i wore em out after 20K and so changed them to yk 520s and they are far superior in all aspects

  5. My passenger side foglight seemed to have droppped about a quarter of an inch and when looking there is a plastic tag that has come off the inner skin of the front fender can this be repaired successfully? by who the dealer? at what cost? thanks in advance

  6. I bought ES350 on May 2006, and mileage is about 18,000.

The inflation warning light was on yesterday and I went to dealer to check it.

They told me that all tires are worn out and I should replace all 4 tires. (Asked $1,270)

Based on Toyo tire warantee manual, the mileage is not warranted.

Can you believe that I have to purchase all 4 tires even though I haven't driven 20,000 miles yet?

If I should purchase them, could you recommend better place than a dealer?

Discount tires and try the yokohama YK520s theyre great

I have this '96 ES300 (my first asain product, and I'm impressed. So impressed that I've added Lexus to my Volvo line here at our maintenance shop. My wife wants some nice, gray, formed rubber floormats for the front. Does anyone have any experience with a particular brand or type? Thanks,

check ebay all weather mats for lexus i have em in my es330 and they are ace :) and cheaper on ebay than my dealer spookily enough

  9. Am I doing something wrong, or should I expect to get less than 20,000 miles with each new set of tires that I buy for my 2005 ES330? The car came with Bridgestone Turanzas EL42, the tire size is P215/55R17. That first set lasted 17,000 miles before they became nearly completely bald. I replaced them with the same tires (Bridgestone Turanzas) and this time only got 11,000 before they went bald. The most recent set, I rotated the tires twice while I had them and also had the alignment done twice during that same time period.

Any suggestions on what tires to get next, what to do differently to get better mileage in the future and what mileage should I expect with my new set? Is poor mileage with these cars just a given, I would love to hear others' experiences with this matter.

yokohama yk520s V rated with a 65K warranty from Discount tires I have em on mine and they are superb all weather tires replaced my TOYO POS tires after 9K from the dealer ..put yokohama avid V4s on lasted 20K ...returned them to Discount tires got pro rated replacement YK520s and will buy them every time I need to change tires for the rest of the life of my es excellent tires excellent service from Discount tires and replaced my avids pro rated for $200 for 4 tires

  10. I have a 2005 ES330 that if it sits for 5 or more days without starting (such as parked at the airport)

The battery is completely dead. This has been happening since the car was new. My Lexus dealer says this is normal for this car!!! Can't be right. Please anybody with info...HELP!!

something is draining your battery when parked check your heated seats maybe the relay is stuck on :) drive to sears get them to hook up their tester and then they will replace your dead battery with something worthwhile hope that helps
  11. Does anyone know what type of original brake pad Lexus puts on i.e. semi-metallic, ceramic, organic? I am about to change mine and need to know what to buy and where I should buy. Thanks

they are semi metallic as standard but ceramics are far better and less brake dust

  12. Hi all,

What do people think of the clear plastic stuff that you can have put on the front end and hood to prevent rock chips etc (dont know the official name for this - but it is a great alternative to having the black leather bra things that I think dont look good on lexuses).

The dealer told me it is a $600 accessory if they do it. have people found it worthwhile? Does it last? Are there aftermarket places that can do it for less?

    -Boston Snowboarder

    2005 ES330

I have the clear bra from 3M on the car and would recommend it everyday it has stopped many chips and dings

  14. My friend is looking for a new car, upgrading from an old Honda Accord, and is looking at cars like ES300s, Nissan Maxima, Infinity I30, Acura TL etc. A 2001 ES with 127K for $7500 has caught my eye. Any idea of reasons to convince him to buy the ES over these other cars?

Honda what a POS that would be compared to the lexus . 127K thats nothing as long as you keep up the oil and filter changes transmission fluid changes with filter you should see at least 300K before things start wearing out and at 7.5K thats $20 a mile ha ha try getting your honda to do that :) Change the standard air filter to a K&N filter (! million mile warranty clean it every 50K and re oil it ) buy your cabin filters from toyota $14 as opposed to $44 from lexus and you have a sweeeeet Car :) Tires use the yokohama yk 550s 65K warranty and are excellent

  15. I had Toyo proxes as oe total crap 11K worn out .yokohama AVID v4s excellent but lasted 18K changing to Yokohama YK520s all yokos have 60K warranty buy from Discount tires and all these yokos have 60K treadwear warrant on v rated tires superb if you wear em out b4 the 60K you get credit for exchange at discount tires . ill report on the YK520s shortly

  16. Change your brake fluid to ATE Super blue a much better fluid

ATE Super Blue Racing High Performance Brake Fluid is designed to excel within the extreme demands made on a race vehicle and exceeds all DOT4 standards. It is compatible with and will mix well with most DOT3, DOT4, or DOT 5.1 fluids.

The formula offers a minimal drop in boiling point due to outstanding water binding properties resulting in a long-lasting fluid that may not need to be changed for up to 3 years under normal highway driving conditions. Products with a lower wet boiling point have to be replaced considerably more often (e.g., DOT3 products should be replaced annually). The overall high dry and wet boiling points make this fluid an excellent choice for street driven vehicles, too, where brake fluid is flushed less frequently than that in race-driven vehicles.

Features/Benefits of ATE Super Blue Racing Brake Fluid:

Blue tint of fluid makes bleeding brakes easier

Ideal for race use, excellent choice for street driven vehicles, too

Boiling point minimum: 536 degrees F

Wet boiling point minimum: 388 degrees F

    Viscosity at -104 degrees F: max 1,400 mm 2/5

Designed to last up to 3 years under normal highway driving conditions

  17. Toyo Proxes last an unbelievable 10K before they were trashed great choice lexus...not ..I went ahead with Yokohama AVID V4s an amazing V rated tire that has lasted 18K....however the warranty is 60K so I contacted my local discount tires great service great advise and tires at great price..they'll even match tire rack with delivery pricing :) tire rack has an amazing site and you can get all the info you need when trying to choose your replacement tires.

Anyhoo I digress the short story is they are allowing me to purchase Yokohama YK520s with a 60K warranty for $50 each installed with tire hazard warranty too thrown in the tires can be bought around $560 for a set of 4 and thats not installed balanced etc so Im getting a great deal. I will report on how these YK520s work out. You cant really go wrong with any of the yokohama V rated tires that have a 60K warranty pretty much the best Ive seen

  18. Hi guys, man it was tough not having LOC yesterday! I was going through withdrawals.

We've all seen (or authored, or contributed to) the gazillion threads about "what's the best tire for MEEE". We roll our eyes, mutter "not another one, can't they SEARCH?", but we read ever word of them and tuck the varied pieces of information away for when it's our turn to replace our ride's shoes.

OK, it's my turn!! My Toyo Proxes TPTs are worn enough to not feel too bad about throwing them away. I have 35K on them and the noise and vibration are driving me batty (sound familiar Steve?). I could probably get 5-10K more out of them, but the handling has deteriorated a lot with the way they have worn - apparently they tend to feather edge. I've searched and read and searched more, and I've narrowed down from Falken, Dunlop, Continental and Bridgestone to MXV4 plus, largely based on Steve's and Blake's recommendations. They seem to be as freaky about noise/vibration/feel as I am. Buuuut...I noticed that Tire Rack is selling the Yokohama Avid V4s for $80, compared to $140 for the MXVs. So I'm asking for an update from members who have the Avids and the MXVs as well as general advice.

Anybody have the Avids for a few thousand miles? I've typically heard good things about Yokos, and the reviews (I know...grain of salt...) are good on the V4s for noise, ride and handling. The reviews say they stink in the ice/snow, which is rare here. I think either 90LSBob or 99LSGuy put these on. Any updates on the MXVs after a few miles? Of course, the Avid is a performance tire, and the MXV is a touring tire.

I don't particularly care about mileage. All tires lose a lot of their luster halfway through their useful life; a long lasting tire means that much more time to suffer through the last half of life! I'm more interested in quietness, smoothness (not necessarily softness, just overall feel) and handling.

    Thanks guys.

    James

  19. I am considering a 2004 ES330 with tan leather for purchase. However, I am fearful that the leather interior will stain too easily. I typically keep my cars for 8-10 years and every car that I have seen that has a tan interior, gets stained and really shows its age/wear and tear (normally the tan becomes a dirty blackish brown) long before the 8 year mark

Without being overly anal about the leather care, is it possible to keep a tan leather interior looking good? Please note that I have kids, so it will be an even bigger challenge. Is there some type of sealant that can be applied to keep the grime off the tan leather?

TIA for your replys.funnily enough Mercedes has the best leather cleaner conditioner on the market just go buy some at your local mercedes dealer one bottle will last a few years :)

  20. i love to have a clean & clear windshield to look out ....espically when the sun is shinning, often you see all the dirt, fingerprints, etc...that impairs your vision.

what products to use to clean inside of the windshield?

    thanks.

Stoners windshield cleaner in a spray bottle is the best

  21. I have a '94 LS400, and I'm going to be waxing it soon. What is a good wax to use? The color doesn't need to be restored or anything, but I would like to get some of the scuffs, etc. out.

    Any recommendations?

meguiars NXT tech wax and the detailer sprayer are both awesome products :)
