  1. Let me clarify I have the DVD bypass installed, which involved cutting wires. At first it worked ok but recently it does not play the sound on the dvd, I only get video. I'm off to post in the bypass thread to see if anyone else has the problem and hopefully find a fix for it.
  2. Excellent, thanks for taking the time to post this. I haven't tried doing this yet as I had a feeling I would have some results like you have. Your tone doesn't sound frustrated, but I can imagine how frustrating it would be trying all those wires to no avail. I hope you tap it! lmk if you do!
  3. The sensor is the valve stem assembly from what I understand.
  4. Mine has no sound either when trying to play a DVD while in motion (didn't try when stopped though..). I had posted in the bypass thread my occurrence a few weeks ago. I had that working again but alas it is again broken. I will try pressing the parking brake next time I go for a ride. I wonder how many other people are having sound issues now. Maybe it's a symptom of a problem with the way we all modified our cars' wiring. I remember reading that some people were cutting wires differently than others...
  5. Did you mean to say "Cut a wire with enough slack that it can be spliced/soldered, should you make a mistake."? I don't think one has the option to choose among wires to cut.
  6. REB, that's one serious message board for radar detectors! Thanks for the link, I'd never been there. Nice to see a subforum dedicated to the V1. There's a boatload of information I should read up and digest! I still have not revisited my installation yet partly because I was deciding if I want the concealed interface or not. Running the wire from the fusebox up the A pillar is certainly an option but I was seeking the lazy route if anyone knew a handy wire up on the overhead. Great pics of your device, thanks for sharing. Looks like I might be sending you a package shortly. http://www.radardetector.net/viewtopic.php?t=23121
  7. Thanks Doja. I have yet to cut any wires but looks like I might have to start probing them to find the right one for what I want to do. Sucks about your stereo!
  8. Not exactly what you need to hear, but if your spending hoards of time searching all the areas on craigslist, give crazedlist.org a whirl. It searches all the areas at once (a slight hack to your browser may be needed).
  9. I just found this which also clues me onto Grey. 1998 Lexus GS300/400 Stereo Information Constant 12V+ Blue/Yellow Switched 12V+ Gray Ground Brown Illumination n/a Dimmer n/a Antenna Rear Window Front Speakers 5 1/4" Doors Left Front (+) Pink Left Front (-) Purple Right Front (+) Light Green Right Front (-) Blue Rear Speakers 5 1/4" Rear Door Left Rear (+) Black Left Rear (-) Yellow Right Rear (+) Red Right Rear (-) White
  10. I have a hunch that it may be grey - 12v switched on Toyota is often Grey and ground is often Brown according to http://electronixwarehouse.com/education/h...s/carwiring.htm
  11. Thanks REB it's not a bad idea but if anyone knows off the bat which one I should use, I would prefer that. Cheers for the kudos, too, btw.
  12. nevermind! If you check that thread, I have fixed it! </hijack thread> edit July 16 2007 - it's still broken
  13. me again I fixed my DVD player. Apparently the machine lost count of how many disks were in there, that combined with it getting jammed up, caused some infinite loop in the circuitry. I was able to slim jim the changer, and get it unstuck by probing around in there with the jimmy, pressing down onto the next disk down in the stack (yea no scratches!) The changer door (which was stuck open) then shut and after a few cycles of ejecting disks, turning the car back off and back on a few times.. clearing it out and rebooting it did the trick. I'm back to where I was before I had the problem! I initially thought that maybe I placed a DVD in there that still had burrs on the edges (I usually check, but I remembered that the last DVD I put in there, I never fingered the inner and outer edges to check for extra plastics from the manufacturing process). However, that was not the case, as it was not a burr problem. It was just a strange quirk that I don't have an explanation for, but alas, it is fixed. Carry on!
  14. Allow me to add - I just was out there messing with the thing to try and fix it, I think the problem is due to a faulty DVD player and may not be related to this modification. It wont eject disks now, nor load any new ones. It just gives a buzzing sound as if something is stuck in there. And now I get "DVD ERROR" printed to the screen when they go to play. The problem was not as bad earlier, I would get video and could switch between disks. Now I get nothing and can't switch between them. This sucks! But don't worry, if you want to do this mod, it's a great mod. I probably just have a faulty system....
  15. As the title states, I'm doing a Valentine 1 radar detector installation, and I would like to tap power from the overhead console. The question is where. Does anyone know which wire I can grab power from? I'm not an electrician, nor do I work for Lexus nor have the wiring schematic book. I dropped down the overhead console and there are a few looms I can tap into. I need 12v thats on when the car is on, and off when the car is off. I don't want the LED power that goes on when merely the doors are open. Anyone got any tips? Overview: One harness closeup: Another harness closeup: And another: One more: Another possible option, some sensor near the mirror: How about here? Thanks in advance.
  16. Allow me to hijack this thread for a moment, lol. I have the opposite problem, I just posted it in the DVD bypass thread. http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...st&p=239167 Mine plays the video but no sound. I did the DVD bypass and it worked for about a year and now it just stopped playing sound on the DVDs. Audio CDs still work fine. Anyone able to help me troubleshoot this?
  17. I did this mod about a year ago (see my previous post in this thread) and lo and behold, recently none of my DVDs play sound. Anyone else have this problem? I also had to replace two parking sensors, both went faulty (at the same time) a few months ago. At every complete stop, they would warn that I was about to hit something in the front. I had to put it in park at every red light to make it shut up, and I had to just deal with the beeping at every stop sign till I brought it back up over 5mph or so. Took it to the dealer and they gave me two new sensors, which fixed that problem. I hope neither of these problems were related to the bypass (who knows!), but if anyone does know how to fix my sound issue with playing DVDs please lmk. I followed the instructions to the "T" and I don't think there was an error on my end! I want to hear my DVDs again! Please help me troubleshoot this!
