  1. I've noticed a little "sand" like spot on the back of my trunk... It feels like a piece of sand that is glued to the paint... but its rusted and the paint around it looks like a chemical reaction or something... almost like when your swiming in a pool at night... when you look at lights it has that color ring around them??? lol

anyway... I tried to grab a pic... but this is the best I could do...

BTW.. I have a bunch of other spots on the paint that are not ruff... but do have that "chemical ring" around them... they are all pen size dots...

I'm starting to think its just part of owning a black car with paint that shows every little thing....

    But just curious also...

    Thanks..

  2. Today when I took my mats out to vacuum... I noticed the driver side one had a HUGE HOLE in it.... looks at lot like someone stuck a butchers knife in it... after doing some my looking it was caused by the heel of my shoe! even the rubber around it is all worn down....

I got these mats thinking they will last me at least a few years.... not 4 months... :(

  3. I don't have any interior pics but it's black. I didn't like the cashmere because you end up with a three tone contrast in colors from the headliner, seats, and dash colors. The worst part for me is the dark upper dash and light lower dash.

The only thing I don't like about the black is that the carpet shows every little leaf, rock, or grass clipping particle. But it's not hard to clean up and I can live with that.

You can probably find some interior pics by browsing google images or cardomain. I've seen some interior shots but not with the matador red.

It is a gorgous color Bartkat!! My next Lexus will Matador Red or the White.... with Black or Cashmere..

I was wanting the black... and the Cashmere looked more like a white on the lexus web site... but when it came in...

I wish lex would offer a deeper/darker tanish red leather...

  4. Ok.. I love my IS... but I've found something that is driving me crazy....

THE PAINT!!!! :chairshot: This has to be the thinnest and weakest paint I have ever seen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yesterday I noticed 3 scratches about 3' long on a curve.... at first I was thinking it was the towls I use to dry the car... but I would have noticed them a few days ago...

the front I can understand with the rock chips.. (6000 miles and I have 7 or 8 big chips).. but just regular wear and tear??

Anyone else having issues with paint?

Cherokee, what color is your car?? I'm just wondering if it's black.....

Yes mam... Black and shows every little scratch!! :( What ever happend to the good ole think clear coat they use to put on cars!???

Yup.. grad little hack... I just wish it would overide the Audio system also so you can browse folders and such....

  6. I know the options for route calculations on my Ipaq are

    shortest distance

    shortest time

    major highways

    local roads

as well as a "reduced turn" feature for a more straight route

    toll roads include/avoid

Are any of those present on your systems?

Yes, the Lexus has some of those, but doesn't have 'local roads' or 'reduced turn' on it. It has others, like 'toll roads', 'seasonal roads' and a couple of other things. I would be willing to bet a nickle that users in large cities, like Houston, or Dallas, don't see this issue. i.e. I'd guess that Lexus has put more info into the mapping in large cities. I live in a town of about 50k population, which makes "her" favorite expression "...Guidance will not be provided in these areas". B)

awww You might look on Lexus web site... I remember seeing a Detail mapping overlay that shows what sections have the detail mapping....

Guess thats one perk about being up here in the Northeast... seems like every street and even dirt roads are mapped... If I lived back home in Oklahoma/Texas I might be cussing her out some.. ;)

  8. The 3 routes offered by my IS350 nav system use only main roads. I live 3 miles from work, and there is a normal road/street going almost straight there, but the nav won't offer that route no matter what I do. There is enough info in the system to show and identify the street name, so why would it not use it?

I also own a Garmin hand-held GPSmap76CS, which has no problem with normal streets, and routing. Anyone else notice their Lexus nav having that issue?

Did you try the options to turn on interstates etc??

A few times I've just had to ignore her.. for some reason she was tring to take me from hartford to worcester via Springfield!!!! Even when I was north of Hartford on 84... she kept trying to get me to do a u turn and go back.... Like every girl.. after she realized she would not get her way... she shut up and guided me on north on 84!! :)

I give her 3.5 out of 5 stars.... I love the Nav... BUT still needs some work..

Does the Acura have a build in traffic avoidance?

  9. :cries: I have an 07 250 on special order, manual, nav, 18s, and premium. I am worried that i wont be happy with the power. my last car had 160 hp and i thought it was quick. it was 0-60 in 7.5. the IS250 has over 40 more hp but is still not as quick off the line??? So i am thinking about maybe waiting a little longer and trying to get a 06 350. i found one in black for 37500 with the same options and i am pretty sure i can get it for 3500 ish. i would have to fly to cali and drive it back but i have a buddy willing to go with me. I cannot decide if i should wait it out and get the 350 which is auto but i am ok for the 100 more hp or just stick with what i have and if i am not happy trading up later. or if i should get it. i really want silver and the one i found it black, but i am sure that i can find one here soon that is exactly what i want for 35000 given that the 07s are coming out soon. I pay 35000 for an 07 IS250 manual in the color i want and get about september, or i pay 35000 for a used 06 IS350 and get automatic and hope to find silver and get ???? What do you guys think. can some ppl post some pics with the silver and with the black with tinted windows....any help i would greatly appreciate.

I waited and waited for the same colors... but when my saleslady called and said looks like a black and tan is coming in around april... I told her naw... she talked me into at least looking at it.. and so she put my name on it....

the rest is history... a few weeks back... I pulled into the mall.. and a IS250 silver and black was parked out by itself... I felt bad.. so I parked mine next to it.. so they could talk when I was inside...

I have to say... IMHO and might be some bias.. lol but walking out.. the black looked like a totaly diffrent car then the silver... I'm glad I took the black and didnt wait....

If your able to get it for $35 with the nav etc... and low miles... then what are you waiting for!???

    How many miles? what packages?

  10. I got my car back in February and have been having frequent problems with the nav and wanted to find out if anyone else has been having this problem. What is happening is the nav will occasionally not register where I actually am. The most frequent error is the nav shows me as being about 50 miles off the coast of northern california. I live inland in sacramento, so I am nowhere near the coast. The directional indicator will turn in random circles not relative to me actually turning the car. *sometimes* turning off the car and restarting it fixes the problem, but not this last weekend. On Saturday I drove about 300 miles in northern cali and the entire time it showed me being 10 miles west of my actual location......HAS ANYONE EVER HEARD OF SOMETHING LIKE THIS HAPPENING???

not sure if you jixed me or not... but today.. everything was fine.. even used it to find a lake that we could not find... but when we started heading home... it had us nearly 30 miles away... then kept skipping around!?

When I got home... I turned it off and turned it back on... and it works fine now... but thought it was strange....

Only thing I can think of... I just got a big foil sun shade... wonder if that could be !Removed! with it?

  11. Being a little picky.. one minor issue I have is the turning signal will not shut off 90% of the time.... even if I turn left.... then proceeded around a right curve... I'll look down and the left signal is still on...

A little picky... but like women... the car would be boring if it was perfect!!

I don't think that's being picky at all. A turn signal not cancelling would drive me nuts, especially on a car like this. Even if we were talking about a new Kia instead of a new Lexus, I wouldn't want to put up with even a minor malfunction like that.

lol.. well I forgot to tell them at the 5000... I'll make sure I do @ 7500... Its just so a great car.... I'm afraid letting the tech dive into something will only cause more issues...

park the car on level ground. center the steering wheel ("L") in center of the steering wheel.

Now, get out and look at the direction of the tires. Are they aimed (pointing) straight?

If not and they are angeled, and turning any which way but "dead on center" that is why the turn signal is not cancelling.

Could be the rim/wheel brushed a curb or the car was driven into or over a large divot or pothole.

Could be the alignment is off. Alignments are covered for 12 months or 12K whichever comes first PROVIDED NO OUTSIDE INFLUENCE cause the alignment to go bad (ie: roling over a curb, large potjole, impacting a parking stop etc etc etc)

I'll take a look at that just to be sure.. thanks for the tip! But I dont think that is the case... Its been like this since I remember.. plus @ my 5000 service.. they rotated the tires before they rotated them again! I'm not sure if they align the tires during a remount...?

    Again thanks for the help..

  13. Small problem with my new IS350:

Washer fluid won't come out of the main jets. The headlamp washers work fine, but pulling the wiper control upwards causes the wipers to activate but the windshield stays dry. I don't hear any kind of pump trying to push the fluid out, and I have checked that the fluid is topped off.

Probably a no-brainer 'take it in' situation, but perhaps someone has a no-brainer 'try this' solution?

    Thanks,

    Jason

Well, I may be misunderstanding your "upwards", but to squirt, you pull the control "backwards", i.e. toward your chest, not "upwards". Upwards does what you state - just operates the wiper once.

    Hope that helps.

  14. Yeah. Well now my car will be an 07. The 07s are expected to rise a little in MSRP. I was told that i wont have to pay anymore for an 07 than i already expect to pay for the 06. A dealer in Texas is working on getting me the car i want for 1500 cheaper but i am pretty much not wanting an 06 anymore at this point due to haveing a year old car with a brand new loan. we will see what happens. i am just gonna have to be patient.

Herb Chambers has the IS250 starting @ $29,900.. at least thats what they say on the radio...

  15. I had a question. Here in OKLAHOMA in June i ordered a 250 that came to about 35k with the options i got. At that time we talked price and he would only give me 500 off. He said that they could not go lower because they cannot keep the cars on the lot plus the fact that i had to special order mine. Now i know that in OK they cannot hold your deposit by law even though they try. Do i have a leg to stand on if i try to go in when the car arrives and work a lower price. If so what should i be paying for a 35k car with the options. Any help would be awesome. I am just not sure if the " we cannot go lower because of the demand and ordering of the car " BS.

All depends if you have Crimson or Orange on when you go talk with them... ;)

  16. Well, we call them WINTER tires, not SNOW tires. In some European countries you have to have them installed sometime in November all the way through March. Germany is thinking about introducing that law also. Even though we don't get snow on regular bases.

Winter tires not only help you on snow, but they're also better if the temperature is below 45 Fahrenheit. They have better grip, handle bette ron ice and are just made for winter times.

I do realize that it's nonsense to buy winter tires when you live in Texas, Nevada, California, you name it.

But in New England? Parts of the Midwest? For sure!

Winter, snow, thats semantics. I live where I live and you don't. I'm telling you, it snows more than 2-3 inches maybe once or twice a year, its not worth it to buy snows ("winter tires" excuse me) and chunk around on them and pay for more gas all winter when thats all the wintery precipitation we're going to get. BUT, if you have a RWD car you're going to have difficulties those couple of times. Hence, why rear biased AWD is an attractive option. We have two FWD cars and we're fine on allseasons.

And you're right, "winter tires" do have those advantages over SUMMER tires, but not allseason tires. The rubber compounds are designed to be effective in cold and warm weather, hence why they're called allseason. Winter tires will have advantages in the cold over allseasons, but I'd be shocked if there was any significant difference at 45 degrees, and winter tires also have reduced grip on wet and dry pavement vs allseasons, so why would I reduce my traction and ride on the road surfaces I'm going to have 90% of the time during the winter for better performance 10% of the time? Doesn't make sense.

Now, if I had SUMMER tires, then yeah it would make a difference.

I'm looking around for a $3000 pathfinder / 4Runner... something that will allow me to do the snow in the winter.. plus toss some bikes on it.. Kayaks.... you name it and go to the mountains..

One thing I will not do... no matter what.... track salt and crap in to my car.... AWD or not...

  17. Most people that live in snow country either have a dedicated set of snowtires and wheels or they drive their 4WD SUV or whatever when the roads are bad. We're so rich we can have a vehicle for every purpose. We got boats for floods, 4 wheelers for the woods, race cars for the track. You name it, we got it.

Guess what: Besides a Camry Station Wagon, a Honda Prelude and a Honda Civic they also had a 93' Land Cruiser with AWD. It wasn't any better on snow...it had summer tires :lol::blink:

Okay, I'll shut up for now since I actually haven't been in snow with my IS yet. But I've driven many rear-wheel cars, including a BMW 325i...No problem at all during the winter time in the European Alps.

I've lived in New England for only 5 years now... but I have never had a AWD car... front wheel and a rear wheel pickup... I've never been stuck.. and if the storm is that bad.... give the plows 4 hours after the storm and the roads will be clear.....

funny thing is... everyone I've seen in the ditch have 4 wheel drive!

  18. Hey, does anyone know if those radar jammers really work? I heard an advertising for one that they will pay a speeding ticket if you get one....I've heard of thise for the K40 radar detector but not a jammer, I think it's called a phaser something...Has anyone heard of this product or ones like it? And does anyone know if they work? Thanks, any advice is much appreciated.

I saw something on 20/20 or something about the Phaser... they said it does work.. when its less then 10 feet of the radar.. lol it was a big story... and the end results showed it worked 0 out of 20 times....

  19. I'd take it back immediately, before you leave to go out of town.

Ugh, all dealers aren't created equal...

*First* Let apologize for the spelling and grammar on the original post.... wow... talking about screwed up!!! lol not saying its usually great... but its not usually that bad...

I was at the dealership first thing this morning... they fixed the tires... then pointed out to me how the front parking assist only had sensors on the corners.... not the front.... grrrrrrrrrrr so that explains why it never works on walls or cars in front of me..... I'm still trying to figure out the purpose of front assist if it doesn't help in the front at all... hmmm

anyway.. the manager said they are going to have a talk with the tech that did my service... and they filled my tank up for me...

Its not Northbourgh... I hate them with a passion from the way I was treated when I first went looking for an IS.... I will never go back... Yes its close... but Balise in Springfield has been great... the service was scary... but from the moment I told them about the tires... they knew it was a screw up... and didnt try to point fingers... even offered to give me a loaner for my trip if I didn't have 30 mins to wait....

Sooo everything is all set! :) could have been better... but it could have been a lot worst.... overall... I'm satisfied...

  20. Just got my IS back from the 5000 Mile Service... It was right at 4,950 miles... When I brought it in... I asked if they could check the front parking assist for me.. I told them it takes me nearly a 1/2 of inch each away from a object before it goes off... The rear works great!

An hour and a half later... They said I was all set... The they told me thatg the Tech checked out the Parking assist and it was "working properly"... hmmm I said I have to see this first... they told me I could make an appointment and they could do further test... this tells me they didn't even look at it... but no biggie.. I was late... and I got to my appointment late.. soo oh well.. Then I get in my car... start it up.. the light comes on telling me that I need to change my oil soon.. Ok.. I was thinking maybe it resets after a mile!?? But before I pulled away.... I gave them a quick call... and before you know it.. I had a tech resetting it for me... Ok.. no biggie... things happen ...

Well today I've been noticing a weird noise almost screeching noise coming from the front when I turn pretty sharp... it started to bother me.... Then I find the issue... When they rotated the tires... they took the fronts and put them on the rears... ARE YOU KIDDING ME!???

    Sum it all up...

    5000 Miles Service

    Issues

1- Didn't look at the Parking Assist...

2- Didn't reset the reminder light

3- Rotated the tires so now the front are 255s and the rears are 225s...

Who do they hire to work on these cars!???

Suppose to head out at 2am for New Jersey and then on to Maryland this weekend.... with screwed up tires.... GRRRRRrrrrrrrr

  21. I own a 2001 IS300. My check engine light came on yesterday and reading the codes revealed the following:

P0440 (EVAP Emission Control System Malfunction)

P0441 (EVAP Emission Control System Purge Flow Fault)

P0446 (EVAP Emission Control System Vent Circuit Malfunction)

Does anyone have any advice/thoughts on what this could be? The car runs fine, not noticeable issues/changes since the light came on. Thanks for any suggestions

    Mark

I'm not a mechanic... nor did I stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night... But I do have a thought... the EVAP is gas vapors... and the computer detects a leak somewhere...

Might check out your gas cap... if its busted or loose... it could allow vapors to leak...
