  1. For those of you that are having the tire pressure warning, when the weather gets cold to where the warning is going off, initialize the system again for the cold temp, the owners manual has the procedure for doing the reset.. I believe the warning comes on at approximately 3 psi from the initial setting... Or as one said have the air replaced with nitrogen, pressure remains the same cold or hot... Costco putts it in tires they install tires.

    George

When tire pressures drop due to cold weather, you sould pump them back up to spec.

Yes... I thought it was the cold weather... but I did check the PSI... 1 was below 30.... so never just assume its the cold...

Also.. Thats the only time its gone off... granted... its been fairly nice up her in New England.. but it has gotten into the low 20s a few times....

  2. I have had my IS for 2 weeks and already have paint chips on the hood. Is this usual for Lexus Paint?

I'm afraid so.. My IS hood looks worst then my '99 Mazda with over 100k...

Strange thing is... and even my detail shop keeps bringing this up... its the hood itself that seems to take the damage... The side mirrors are flawless... only chips in the whole care are on the hood itself...

  3. well, the problem is that i believe there is some safety thing in your manual that doesnt allow the key to exit the car when it is running, something will start buzzing. But you can always try this using two keys. you must really love your dog...thats a big waste of gas, and on press button start cars, the whole engine is on...unlike conventional cars where it can be on the ACC setting

    1)start the engine

    2) ask the dog what temp he/she wants

3)open door but press lock all doors button

    4) close doors (leaving key inside)

ps. you may want to put a piece of ribbon in the vent area

That doesn't make and sense..you can't leave a set of keys in the car and lock the door. Anyone would able to open the door by putting their hand on the door handle. The car would recognize the set of keys in the immediate vicinity and unlock the door. It's impossible to lock the doors while leaving the keys in the car. The car will detect it and think it was you.

You can exit the car... it just beeps at you a few times... and if its turned off.. when the key isn't present.. it will not start...

  4. Yes it's totally illegal in California, but it depends on what part of California. Here in Fresno (central valley) I'd say there are about 80% of cars W/O front plates. Even old cars that used to have front plates, take them off. Front tint is also illegal, but cops here don't mind. Seems like the Fresno cops are easing up if your only violation is the plates and/or front tint..... But if caught for speeding, you'll be needing a loan officer to pay off that big fine (exaggerated, but i presume it must be a lot). Plus if u have front tint, add that to the loan. lol. ;)

When I was out in Cali this summer... I was shocked by all the cars driving around with Temp Paper Tags... I mean they are everywhere... and some cars you can tell have been driven for months...

So after the Dodgers game waiting for family... I started up a conversation with a few LAPDs officers.. (Hands in the air of course so they wouldn't beat me) :P anyway.. standing out near the parking lot I was asking about all the cars without tags.. they acted like it wasn't a big deal.. something about the DVM is weeks and weeks behind in new tags... I was sort of taken back by the response... If I was a cop.. I would want to make sure I had every bit of info I could on a car when I stopped them before I approached it...

  5. haven't been around in a few... so I was just wondering how the paint is holding up on the 2007s?

My 2006 has 12k miles on it... and the front of the hood looks worst then the Mazda I just sold with 140k miles on it (black also)... I know the paint is softer today... every time I get her detailed.. they keep on me telling me the hood has to have a defective paint job..

Scott.. Are you driving your IS yet!?!?!?!!?!? ;)

  6. My plates just came in a few days ago. Here's the thing, I don't want to put on the front plate. I don't want to bring my car in to have the dealer install the front plate. Have you been driving without one? Is it legal? Do you get in trouble if you don't have it? By the way, I went to lunch today and counted the cars at the parking lot. About 27% of the cars don't have the front plate (that's 3 out of 11).

    Thanks all!

In mass... The rule of thumb is... If you dont use your front plate... you better have a Red Sox or Pats plate on... or your get a ticket..

    Yes... I'm serious... :censored:

  7. I love the look and feel of the Lexus rubber matts. They will last longer than the car.

I agree.. Just seems to gives me a better feel when comes to protecting my interior....

Also.. the holes in the matts should be covered under the 1 year warranty.. so when I get back over to my dealer... going to get them swapped out...

  8. Hey Guys sorry it took soo long to put up pictures.

    Congrads!!!!! ;)

One thing I noticed... The dealer stuck his sticker on the trunk... :censored: You need to go back and tell him you didnt buy a Chevy or Toyota! GET THAT STICKER OFF MY TRUNK!

  9. I usually drive speed limit or up to 10 miles over on highway. I do 65 miles highway trip to work each day, with the last 1/2 hour stop and start, 65 miles home at a constant speed and weekends city driving. I am averaging 27.4 MPG. If I fill up my tank before going home at night, I find I get 30-32 with straight 65 mph.

I have been thrilled with the mileage.

I'm at 10,300... 19.2 for Overall average... Only had my girl for 6 months.... Lets just say I'm glad fuel prices are going down..

  10. well...were talking the regular mustang GT here, not the shelby edition with 500hp right? this is the one with 300hp versus your lexus with 306? chances are you lexus is even lighter against the prehistoric american car. but then it has more torque...and if it really does a quarter mile at 13.5 then yes you would lose big time. lol

13.5 and lose big time?? Why? I've seen lots of Drag slips with mid 13s from a stock 350...

  11. Where do you get the cabin air filter? Only filters I see are for the IS300... My 10,000 is due... and I dont want to pay $100+ for the cabin filter....

You have 10,000 miles on that thing already??? :o

I feel so much better now.

I bought the MDX on May 15, and it's got 11,000 on it now.

With the amount of driving I do, I sometimes think I'm crazy buying a nice car.

With others doing the same, I feel a little better.

I figure, if I'm gonna spend 3 hours a day in my car, I want it to be a pleasurable experience.

:::Actually, now that I think of it, you picked yours up in April, right? I guess your doing better than me after all::::

Yup... and the crazy part is... My office is only 1.4 miles away... :o I'm going to park it for 3 months this winter... so that will help the miles on it... but man... she is such a joy to drive... when ever I have a chance to head down to DC or Upstate NY.... I jump and go!!! My IS350 is my drug of choice! :snoooorrrtttt:

  12. I brought the car in for the 30K service, they want $750. I went to my local mechanic, not jiffylube, a real garage. Handed him the Lexus checklist for 30K. Paid $250. You can save a lot of money without sacrificing your baby on the quiklube lift.

Also remember that all dealers pricing is not created equal. I did not pay nearly $750 for the 30k service, I paid about $500. Here in DC, prices vary a lot depending on the dealership, as does service quality.

My 10,000 is due... Called my dealer and they said $250... He said most of that cost is the Cabin Filter.. that if I wanted just the oil change its $49... (cheap IMO being the dealer is doing it)

Also I thought the 5000 was free on all Lexus? or is that a dealer option?

  13. Do you mean a matte finish wood? No they don't.

You can polish scratches out of the wood...

Yes.. the wood that doesn't look like plastic..

I've seen it on a few cars.. been trying to find an example.. but seems like all the Manufactures are going to the shiny coated wood...

It might just be me... but why would you put something in a car that everyone assumes is plastic and even sounds like plastic...

Barket reminded me of this post I made a few months back when I was asking if it was real... one member clubfoot even swapped out is ashtray.. and thought it was plastic.... You can find the full thread here...

Anyone have a reason why they coat the wood? I can see how it would be easier to take care of.. maybe..

I'll take a look over at the detailing section for tips on how to buff the scratches out...

  14. does anyone go by the manual to go to the service at the dealer and pay big bucks like the 5k 10k 15k 20k ect... do u guys think it is worth it.....

in the manual it states that the 45k they change the air cabin filter but when i took it to the dealer for the 45k service they told me my manual is out dated that they don't do that...are they ripping me off or the dealer sucks..... my dealer is longo lexus

    Some do, some don't.

I have my regular mechanic do the inspections and fluid changes. You can buy the cabin filter cheaper online and change it yourself. Same goes for lots of maintenance items. Just keep receipts for what you get done.

If the dealer didn't change the cabin filter, and didn't charge for it, you're probably lucky. He'd have charged big bucks for that.

Where do you get the cabin air filter? Only filters I see are for the IS300... My 10,000 is due... and I dont want to pay $100+ for the cabin filter....

  15. As a lot of you know I've been using Poorboy's Natural Look on the interior. While I like it, I find that it has to be cut with water to get close to the matte look I like, and even then its still a hair glossy.

Well, from a referral on Autopia I tried Optimum Protectant Plus. Its PERFECT! Straight out of the bottle it leaves just the look I've been wanted, a deepening of the vinyl, but no added gloss.

Optimum Protectant Plus sounds like something I'd be interested in. I've been trying to find something that would make my vinyl look natural (LOL!), and provide UV protection. No really I haven't been able to find a vinyl protectant that isn't shiny/glossy. Think I'll give this a try. Where did you buy? Online or is it sold in stores. I'm a Newbie and haven't tried many products only meguires gold class and 303 aerospace. Kinda like the 303 though.

Do you have any opinions on wheel wax. Got some Mothers Wheel wax locally. Haven't used it yet though.

I used wheel wax only 1 time about 3 weeks ago... I can still remove the brake dust without any elbow grease!!!

    I LOVE THE STUFF!!!

  16. I have a Black 2006 IS350 that I just purchased new 2 weeks ago. Has anyone had trouble with the paint/clear coat ? I had a bird drop on my car it could not have been on there more than an hour before I found it and cleaned it off but it had already etched the paint. Today I found another spot much larger where something like a bird dropping etched into the paint again. I have also found it scratches very very easily. I have owned 5 black cars in the past and never had a problem with the clear coat/paint of a car scratching so easy or bird or enviromental factors causing such problems. The last Lexus I owned was a Red 2004 IS300 and never had these problems. The paint and clear coat was much better and more forgiving. I have waxed this card 3 times with Meguires NXT and did the Meguires polish in between but it seems the clear coat is too soft and or thin to protect the paint .

The place I take my girl to get detailed... gets mad at me for not going back to Lexus and complain about the paint.... He says the paint on the hood is flawed... He loves the car... and everyone always stand and stare at her... but they can not believe how cheap the paint is... :cries:

  17. Why does Lexus have to coat the wood with 4" of plastic!??? ok... maybe not 4".... but it makes me sick when ever I'm cleaning it and I can not get the scratches out!!

Do they offer the natural wood on any class? I forgot what car I looked at... but they had a natural wood that was just unreal!!

Does anyone know why Lexus feel like they have to coat the REAL WOOD with plastic?? Why use real wood!??

  18. yeah i am very happy with her. she is perfect. much happier with the auto than i was with my last manual. the car is still much more fun to drive in sport mode. still quick in auto. everyone loves it. they are just in utter awe when they see it and all of the toys it comes with.

Are you happy with the power?

I know you have your bike... but I'm only asking about the car itself.

Have you been to the line with a 19yr old punk in a 5.0 egging you on yet?

I'm still on the fence between the IS250AWD and the IS350.

I'm in MA, have horrible winters, and this will be my only ride.

I want the 350 but the responsible part of me, as little as that may be, is telling me to stick with the 250.

The lack of power in the AWD has, to date, forced me to wait until I can test drive the 306hp 07 Infiniti G35x. :cries:

Scottttttt..... SCOTTTT.... the IS350 is CALLING YOU!!!!!! ;)

  19. Pretty nice video and information, if a bit on the sparse side. Looks darn cool with those bigger wheels and cross-drilled rotors. Of course that's assuming they don't actually release it with those ridiculous gold-colored wheels.

I hope I hate it, when it arrive$.

I hope its not a V8.. unless it has nearly 500hp.. didnt lexus say the current V6 in the 350 could produce over 400 without a turbo?

also I couldnt see the IS500 costing over $50k fully loaded... the 350 is only $4000 more then the 250... so what would make the 500 nearly $15k more the the 350 like I've have read on the net all over the place?

I can see it costing more the the entry level GS... but not more then the top of the line GS....

but i'm wrong all the time... B)
