  1. I now have what sounds like two blown subwoofers in my 2003 LX-470 (I know embarassing). The driver's side door sub-woofer and the left rear (next to third row seats) is just starting to waffle. Can you please send pictures and videos to rchan002@gmail.com. I will update this thread with my results. Thanks.
  2. I have the VAISTECH iPod only interface on my '03 LX-470. To answer questions from an earlier post: 1. Yes, you have limited control of the iPod from the touch screen. Per mp3 song, you can toggle between the name of the playlist, name of the artist and name of the song too. You can also do a few other things, like fast forward and rewind. 2. You do not have comlete access to all the songs on the iPod. You only have access to playlists. 99 playlists, and 99 songs per playlist. You can however, disconnect the iPod and manually modify/create playlists on the iPod itself, however I find myself using the iTunes application to manage my playlists in advance. Kind of like burning large r/w CD's in the past. I do this every weekend. If this is important, you could bring your laptop with you to organize using iTunes before plugging in. I put my iPod adaptor in the front glovebox for easy access. 3. There is no way to select and create a new playlist from the car controls. Until the s/w gets updated to allow this somehow, playlists are static and all you have access to. Another good thing about the VAISTECH interface is the Aux input. I use that as an audio input for my rear DVD player and gaming console for really great sound. There is a way to toggle between iPod -> Front DVD -> iPod -> Aux Input (FM and AM too if you use the steering wheel). Sometimes this toggle gets confused and does not work if the factory DVD cassette is not inserted. My other gripe is that some of the controls, either on the Nav Screen or buttons/switches are not all that intuitive. So I find myself only using the up/down disc button to switches playlists and up/down track to change songs. These may be the only voice commands I use in the car too. Overall it is not perfect but the sound quality and convenience is great. Hope this helps. Bob
  3. I finally found the Service Screen with the Override button for my 2003 LX-470: While at a full stop or park: Menu -> Dvd (near upper right) Top Left Corner Botton Left Corner Top Left Corner Bottom Left Corner Botton Right Corner (Service Screen pops up) Hold Override button until it turns green Hit Back button As usual, this has to be done every time after you start/turn on the car. The pressing of the hidden "Corner" buttons works best for me if I use the fat/flat part of my finger. Maybe someone can post what all the other buttons are used for. Also, does anyone know how to set all the personalized settings without taking it into the dealer (who wants $70 to do this)? I want to make a single unlock on the key fob unlock all doors, and when I turn off the car, automatically unlock all the doors. Why doesn't Lexus provide navi-menu options for all the personalized settings. I believe Acura already allows this via their nav screen while we are still stuck in the Stone Age. Bob
  4. This top-bottom-top-bottom sequence does not work on my '03 LX-470. No secret menu pops up :( Does anyone know if this can be done on the '03 LX-470 or hopefully there is another "secret" way to do this. Thanks. Bob
  5. Here is an update: On my 2003 LX-470, my installer found it on the connector closest to the passenger side. He also installed a video amplifier at the rear monitor. Thanks for the information! I wrote details in my 6/19/06 response on the following thread: Run Factory Dvd Player Signal To 3rd Party Screen Bob
  6. I have a 2003 LX-470 and I just had a rear flip-down monitor installed. The nav unit has 4 connectors on the top of the nav unit. From another thread, I was told that the red wire with gray spots (no line on it either) was on the right most connector when facing the front of the nav unit, i.e., closest to the passenger side. I gave this information to the installer so I did not personally see it. The installer found it no problem, but he also added a video amplifier at the location of the rear screen. He claimed without the amplifier, the signal was weak. I did the DVD Bypass myself with instructions from this forum and that worked great. I did it without installing an extra switch. I also installed the Soundgate LexPD which works great. The LexPD has an Aux input which my rear DVD player was hardwired into. It sounds great, although the instructions to enable the Aux input on the LexPD were a little funky (described in the LexPD instruction manual). One other note on the "red wire with gray spots". When I am playing a movie on the factory 6-disc DVD player and I change screens on the front nav screen, e.g., to look at the map or climate control, the video to the rear monitor is disabled. Audio is still on, so I get a cranky kid in the back seat until I return the front to the "Picture". Not exactly what I expected. Is there anything that can be done so that the video feed to the rear monitor is not disabled while the using the front screen for non-DVD viewing purposes???
  7. I have a 2003 LX-470 and I would like to tap into the video line too. Do you know which is the video wire to tap into? I did the DVD bypass already. Another post mentioned the following about the video wire: "In this case it's a red wire with gray spots on it. It is in the second connector from the right on the top of the unit." I have 4 connectors at the top (back of the nav unit). So is this second connector when facing the back of the nav unit or the front? Obviously, I could not easily find any red wire with grey spots. It would also be helpful to know if the red wire has a line on it or not. Help anyone? Thanks, Bob
