  1. In the Carolinas a few years ago, JL was in deep doo-doo. Seems they DIDN"T change the oil at all at a couple of their prominent metro outlets. Guess that's good though, at least they couldn't screw anything up with doing nothing! Pennzoil is just good for one thing, sludge. I have learned to use quality synthetic lube and filter (like Syntec and a high filtration rate filter like Pure One, K&N, etc). I'm not meaning to rehash so many pi**ing contests posted ad nauseum on this site over the years ... but quality doesn't cost any more than bad, 'specially when you git 'er done yourself right the first time. Continuing saga of undoing/upgrading my ES from the slacker that owned it before me: Seems he needed a brake job, so he got organic pads to save pennies. They got changed at Midas today with customer supplied Akebono ceramic set for $52 labor (yeah, decided to spoil myself on the cheap). Good guys that I know, who help me out cuz they lust over my hotted up Supra Turbo. The work is always ok there, but you get the required upcharge possibilities 'suggestion sheet': $265.99 R&R rear valve cover gasket 729.91 Change Shocks to No Name 'Ultra Strut' $993.90 Total Suggestions For Today :chairshot: The rear cover? Leaks just a bit ~ what a surprise from a Gen 1 ES300, huh? I'll get to the remedy: BOTH valve covers AND decarbonize intake, reclean air control valve, TPS, throttle body and any thing else hanging off/around it for $35 plus beer and pizza for me n my ex-works Lotus carbud. Shocks? What stinkin' shocks?! They are fine, just got a little age on them. I'll go Tokico, or something quality (and maybe even adjustable!) for similar bux. But not soon, these work just fine for now, thanks. Thank God I had an automotive dad, great friends and cool car websites to help me save my bux for The Blonde, beer n buds!
  2. Thanks for the cooler suggestions, good stuff guys. Based upon the other forum comments, I think I'm getting a B&M Supercooler. From what the thread said, I need to connect the cooler to the output side of the radiator cooler (I'm located in the sunny South, y'all!). Does it matter which side of the radiator the Supercooler is physically mounted to?
  3. Thanks, DC. Any recommendations for A/T coolers? This slushbox life is new to me, I usually have a stick with lotsa horsepower to control!
  4. My thinking is that adding an inline external transmission filter would be a good idea for A/T longevity, so I bought one. It has a magnet inside as a bonus. Question ... I think the line going to the passenger side radiator inlet is where it should be located, BUT is the flow going into the rad there or exiting? I also have a kit with transmission internal filter and gasket, going to do it all at the same time with the filter addition. My '96 ES has 100k, loving care from first and present (me!) owners. The 2nd owner was a slug, but thankfully just had it for 30k miles. I wanted to hit the reset on all the fluids and did so at mileage of 90k purchase (only paid $5500, a steal). That included a transmission flush. I thought that the 120k recommendation of cleaning the filter would be fine, but decided to do it now a little early in conjunction with the filter addition. Will there be around 4 quarts of ATF to replace when I do so? This is my first listing here, I've enjoyed reading the posts. Actually, I think it's awesome that a guy can ask a question and get several opinions from knowledgeable people who do it every day for a trade. My car stable has had 3 modded Turbo Supras (!) in the last 15 years, so I'm no stranger to the quality (and performance) Toyota produces. Thanks in advance for your input, guys n gals!
