  1. Ok, so I lost my one and only master key. Finally broke down and ordered from www.lexus-parts.com (Sewell). They offered 2 new master keys, plus cutting the keys to my VIN, plus the little circuit board that slides into the 'ECU' in the trunk for $286. Got the keys but they didn't fit. They were cut for the wrong VIN. No problem, Sewell Fed Ex'd me a replacement. Received not 2 but 3 Master Keys! Found the Field Service Manual for the 93 (probably from Lexus Owners Club). In the Body Electrical System pdf, found the section for 'Wireless Door Lock System'. Followed the instructions and, yes little girl there is a Santa, I have 3 working Master Keys! I think the procedure is a little easier for the 94 than what I've read for some later model years. You simply replace the little circuit board in the trunk and do this: Open the driver's door Use the door lock in the door and 'lock unlock' 10 times within 30 seconds Within 2 seconds mash the transponder button on the Master Key repeatedly for 10 seconds Close the driver's door Mash the transponder and the door should unlock. There are additional troubleshooting steps in the FSM if this doesn't work for you but it worked for me. So nice to be able to wirelessly unlock all doors as well as open the truck without having to first open the car. It's the simple things in life...... And major kudos to Sewell Lexus! You guys rock! I got 3 Master keys for apx $295! My local dealership quoted my over $500 for 2 Master keys.
  2. I'd like to dress up my 94 ES for the newest driver in the household. Been saving up for wheels. The problem is the dude at my local Sears just totally refused to make a recommendation on wheels. He started ranting about potential problems like ruining the transmission, ruining the handling, getting false readings on the speedometer and on and on. Now I have previously read that if you increase the wheel size (I'm thinking about 17" rims) that the speedometer won't be as accurate. But I can accept a slight variance (+- 5mph) I don't want a drastically different ride. I like the ride now and would actually like it as smooth as possible since I drive a lot on interstates (welcome to the ATL). I don't want to feel every pebble I run over. And I would be happy to buy Lexus wheels from another model or year. So, did I just catch this dude on a bad day? Is it possible that Sears doesn't carry the best wheels for the ES? If changing out the wheels "ruin" the ride then why do sites like www.tires.com and ww.tirerack.com make bunches of recommendations for compatible wheels? And do you feel every crack when you go to the low profile tires? What say you?
  3. My 94 was producing an annoying squeaking noise coming from the rear at low speeds (parking lots / speed bumps) and I paid a local mechanic $302 to replace the rear strut assemblies and it took care of the noise. The parts added another $209.01, total of $511.01. Expensive, I know, but I had the cash and was tired of hearing it. Part # 334134 @ $110.88 Part # 334133 @ $98.13 I hope this helps!
  4. I need to remove the ashtray. Which means I have to remove the upper console. The '93 FSM indicates this part is held by 4 clips. I'm trying to pry the black piece that surrounds the gear shift without success. Now I'm wondering whether the black piece (with the P R N D labels are) is in fact connected to the wood grain. Anyway, has anyone removed this upper console in a '94? Where do I "pry"? THX!
  5. I'm facing a similar issue with my 1994 but I'm not sure how to get to the bulbs. My problem is the bulbs that affect the column that extends down from the HVAC control (between the fan ^ and < MODE) to the stereo (between the APS/3 and SKIP/4). Any ideas on how to get to these bulbs? THX!
